  • Review from the 2023 Summer Camp Survey

Location: Mt. Washington, MA (outside of Great Barrington) How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 11 Review: This camp is amazing - it's my kid's happy place! It feels thoughtful and accepting of all, fun and like camp should - disconnected from the real world. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? nothing
  • Review from the 2022 Summer Camp Survey

Location: Mount Washington, MA How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 10 Review: The camp was communicated but not TOO communicative. My son loved all the activities but also enjoyed the free time. It was quite rustic but not too rustic. Food was decent enough. This is a great starter camp, something that doesn’t take things over the top. It felt just like a normal (in a great way!) camp that offered normal camp things (swimming, boating, archery, sports, etc.). They seem very accepting of everyone.
  • Camp Hi-Rock / Camp Sloane

My son attended Camp Hi-Rock for years (from day camp to eventually overnight camp). It is great! A beautiful spot, great staff (actually some of them are students or former students of mine from the city), wonderful choices of things to do (arts, fishing, sailing, paddleboarding, hiking, various athletic options, reading, cooking etc). My son essentially learned to swim there. It feels like what camp is supposed to be. I don't know where you are but they also have shuttles/buses that pick kids up from various spots and take them to camp and then drop them back off at the end of the day.
  • Day camps in Columbia County, NY?

Oh I have the perfect solution for you! Camp Hi-Rock is wonderful (it is a YMCA camp in Mt. Washington, MA -- on a mountain just above Copake Falls). They even have buses that will pick the kids up from Hillsdale and drop them back off at the end of the day. The location is beautiful and the offerings are great. My son started attending the day camp when he was about 6 I think and then eventually did overnight camp there (they have both.).
  • 1 week sleepaway camp?

My son has attended Camp Hi-Rock in the Berkshires. It is a YMCA camp -- beautiful location and only 2 1/2 hours from the city. They do list two-week sessions but you can choose to only go for one. That is what my son usually does (he was 12 when he started sleep away camp there but did day camp there from about the age of 4). Here is the website: http://camphirock.org/
  • Review from 2015 Summer Camp Survey

Age of Child: 10 Likes: The location is beautiful -- on a mountain with a beautiful lake and hiking opportunities. He loved the various activity options from arts and crafts to hiking to outdoor living skills to archery to water skiing. He has made some good friends at camp and loves the counselors (who come from all over the US and outside the US) What would you change? Nothing Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? This camp also offers overnight camp as an option. The day campers get a chance to try it out -- every two weeks they get to have a sleep over at the camp. It is a nice way to introduce kids who are more tentative about overnight camp to try it out.
