  • Review from the Summer 2022 Birthing Survey

What month and year was your child born? April 2022 Review: I really loved Dr. Lewis-Morris throughout my pregnancy. She was incredibly calming and had great energy. I was glad that I had a birth doula. I knew that I wouldn't be meeting the other doctors in the practice and that it was a wildcard who would be on call during my delivery, and sure enough, I didn't meet that doctor until I was practically begging to start pushing. So, VLM is fabulous, but something to consider in terms of your birth experience if you want a familiar face in the room.
  • Black OBGYN - roundup (2021)

My OB-GYN, Valerie Lewis-Morris, is a POC; she is Black. She practices out of the Mount Sinai 10 Union Square location and delivers babies at Mt. Sinai West (MSW). I believe the other OBs in the practice are all white (I've only met one of the other OBs which is why I'm not sure); they rotate being on-call for births so you don't know who is going to deliver your baby unless it's a scheduled birth.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Dr. Lewis-Morris was fine. She was personable and fun during in person appointments. She was often matter of fact and not super warm, but this was my second birth so I needed less hand holding. I was a high risk pregnancy because of high BP and I was guilted into doing extra, expensive, and ultimately unnecessary tests, such as an EKG and an echocardiogram. I did not have to get those tests with my first birth (in Texas). I had an uncomplicated vaginal birth so a midwife delivered my baby, not a doctor. I was really frustrated because I asked her to make a note in my chart that I would need to get an anti anxiety medication before I got an IV, but there was significant pushback at the hospital so I don't know if it was added. Overall, I never felt unsafe, but I didn't feel extremely listened to/taken care of either. If I were going to give birth again in the NYC area I would look for a different practice.
