Therapist?

My daughter and I tried going to see a therapist the first half of the summer at University Settlement House. I specifically asked for someone with attachment/early childhood trauma and adoption experience.They had only one therapist who had any adoption experience and that was a client she had been working with for a just a few months longer than us. It wasn’t a good fit for many reasons and the therapist failed to explain her approach, what my role was and didn’t seem to address the behavior issues that clearly showed in therapy. It was puzzling and frustrating. I also expected play therapy and what we got were sessions with both my daughter and myself with no clear explanation of what my roles was supposed to in the sessions. In retrospect, should’ve asked to talk with/interview the therapist assigned to us after the initial intake before introducing her to my daughter. I’d be happy to talk in more detail. I haven’t decided about pursuing another situation mostly because of the lack of bandwidth and because I feel like I know what’s supposed to work and have to just keep at it. (September 2019)
