- Car mechanic/inspection recMike at Ultimate auto care in Astoria is amazing. He is very busy but he is the only mechanic I trust with my car for affordable honest work. It’s a schlep up to Astoria from Brooklyn, but I once tried to go to a place closer and was quoted $1200 for a brake job Mike ended up doing for $240 (plus tax). I can’t risk going anywhere else. I’d rather drop my car off and go a few days without my car but know my problems will be solved for a fair price. He’s a 7 minute walk from the subway.
- Car mechanic recommendationIt is really important who you go to and I think it’s really tough to know whether you’re being taken for a ride or not. In an effort to build a relationship with a new mechanic closer to where I live, I brought my Audi to a well known shop on the edge of Gowanus. I was quoted almost $2000 for a brake job. The gentleman was very polite, and accommodating and the Audi is new to me, so I had no idea how much a brake job would cost. However I went back to my trusted mechanic in Queens and got the job done with the same parts for $350. I don’t think I’ll be wandering again.
