Review from the Spring 2023 Early Education Survey
Review: Our 1.5 yo daughter has been at Tiny Steps since she was three months old, and we are very happy. The teachers are so caring and communicate well with parents. We are also pleasantly surprised by how much programming they have (weekly in-person music class, reading curriculum, yoga, Spanish class). We also love that they provide healthy meals and snacks and have outdoor space. Overall, a wonderful experience and our daughter is learning so much. Amenities: Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Nothing. -
Best daycares in Prospect Heights?
I second Tiny Steps! My oldest went there for 3.5 years and my baby is nearing 2. Both started at 12 weeks. I’ve loved the two youngest age locations and we regularly use their caregivers as babysitters at our home too. -
Best daycares in Prospect Heights?
We’ve been really happy with Tiny Steps! Both my first and second went to a Tiny Steps location. The day care attendants are very sweet and loving and I never worry about the care they’re receiving. -
Review from the Spring 2022 Early Childhood Education Survey
Location: Prospect Heights (Bergen St.) Type of facility: Daycare Review: Both my toddler and my infant attend Tiny Steps on Bergen St. (two different classrooms) and we couldn't be happier! The teachers are incredibly warm, and they prioritize spending as much of the day outside as possible in their large backyard, which was so important to me. My toddler's verbal skills have exploded in the past six months - he has manners and plays so well with others, and it's absolutely a result of the work the teachers do all day there. Our kids love going every day, and my toddler in particular loves to be able to run around in the sprinkler in the back yard, drive his car, and go to puppet class and music class. From a pure logistics standpoint, I also love that they're open nearly every day of the year (very few holidays) and they provide breakfast and lunch. What amenities does the facility have? Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything? Nothing Is there anything you would like to add about how the school is handling the pandemic? Teachers wear masks and I've never seen them out with an illness of any kind. They test weekly. -

Location: 122 St Marks Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11217 Type of facility: Daycare Review: We really like Tiny Steps, the caretakers are really kind and give us high-level daily updates and sometimes photos. They provide meals, have outdoor space, and classes. Our 3-yo has been at Tiny Steps for 8 months, and is already much-improved socially and in his interactions with other kids. They play games and make really cute crafts too. He hugs the main teacher, and is usually excited to go in the morning. What amenities does the facility have? Has outdoor space, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything? Maybe more detail with the reports and more pics. -
Tiny Steps locations
Both of my kiddos are Tiny Steps kids - my daughter, almost 5 and in public pre-K now, went to the 3 different aged locations on St. Marks (the infant location closed during the pandemic as they consolidated and I don't think has reopened) and my son, 13 months, is currently at the Pacific location. He will be moving to the St Marks location when he ages up, which we requested as we love the head caregiver there, Delya. We have had great experiences with the head caregivers in every location. At Pacific, we love Aidai, who seems to have a very sweet bond with my son. He is always thrilled to go there. Both of my children started at 3 months and they're great with both little babies and bigger kids. Many of the caregivers have babysat for us and we trust them with both kids. It's sweet how many of the caregivers have remained at Tiny Steps since 2017 and remember my daughter when she's at dropoff/pickup. Highly recommend -
Tiny Steps vs. Lightbridge
Our daughter (11 months) has been at Tiny Steps for about 5 months now, and we really love it. Nora is excited to go to daycare, and is in love with the staff and caregivers. They seem to truly care about her and I see her learning, developing and growing every day. We toured both Lightbridge and Tiny Steps, and our final decision was also between those two. Tiny Steps was more responsive when we asked for parent referrals. Then, once we actually did speak to the parents at Tiny Steps we were ultimately sold. We've been very happy with our choice, but I got good vibes from both places when we were touring. -
Tiny Steps vs. Lightbridge
I don’t know Lightbridge but we love Tiny Steps! -
Review for Tiny Steps
Our daughter was at Tiny Steps on Pacific Street from March - Sept (ages 1-1.5 years) and we couldn’t have been happier! The manager, Lena, is quickly responsive and thoughtful. And the staff at Tiny Steps care immensely about the children. Our daughter developed a deep affection for the daycare and still, a month after we left (we moved away), recites the names of the staff and other babies. The fact that they have outdoor space and provide lunch was another bonus for us. -
Review from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education Survey
Type of facility: Daycare Review: We've been so happy with our choice to start our daughter at the Tiny Steps location at 194 St. Marks this fall. She started at 1.5 years. We were impressed when we visited by the tidiness of the space and the warmth of the caregivers. The caregivers are so sweet and loving with the kids, and my daughter happily runs in to see them each morning. They have their own backyard outdoor space where the kids play whenever weather permits. They have gone beyond our expectations in terms of child development - they do little arts and crafts projects, work on letters, numbers and colors, have music classes, teach Spanish - we can tell our daughter is learning there every day. They provide all meals and are open from 8 - 6 which makes it so easy for working parents. We absolutely think this is the right place for her right now. What amenities does the facility provide? Has outdoor space, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? N/A Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? We think they're striking the right balance between Covid safety and staying available for working parents. So if a child has a fever or other major symptoms, they will send them home and ask for a Covid test before return, but they aren't sending kids home for just a runny nose. The caregivers are all vaccinated and wear masks. -
Review from the 2020–2021 Daycare, Preschool, Pre-K, and K Survey
Review: I started my daughter at Tiny Steps when she was 1 and a half and she thrived there. She stayed at one location for one year and then moved to the next age group location where she will stay til she starts PS9 this fall. The teachers are kind and fun and very supportive of the kids. They provide breakfast, lunch and snacks which is super helpful, and they have fun activities like yoga, music classes, spanish and puppetry demos. I will truly miss the program and its teachers. Facility amenities: Has outdoor space, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program? maybe more structure with classes? Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? nope, very thorough -
Experience with Tiny Steps
I can't speak for Tiny Steps on Bergen & Washington but am happy to answer questions about their St. Marks location. We've been attending Tiny Steps since our kid was 4mo old and I have only good things to say about them. It's wild how they get kids to nap at the same time -- our son naps super late on the weekend (also around 1/1:30) but he naps most days at daycare when they all go down at 12:30. Most of his daycare naps are shorter than at home, but it hasn't made much of a difference for our evenings and general sleep patterns. -
2019-2020 Year Review
Our son is really happy at Tiny steps. The teachers at this location are great and he is very fond of them. He does different activities, classes and art projects every day and is learning so much. The location is a little dark but the inside is very cheery and our son was comfortable there immediately. Our only complaint is that we don't get photos or videos unless there is a special event. … About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals -
2019-2020 Year Review
We started sending our daughter to Tiny Steps when she turned 2, and she has been thriving there ever since. Regina and Sonya are wonderful caretakers, so giving and fun-loving and energetic with the kids. Plus, they basically potty-trained our daughter, with just a bit of assistance from us. The kids have yoga and music class and Spanish, and they do art projects every day. It's an amazing environment for 2-year-olds (and some 3-year-olds) and I couldn't recommend it more! We feel so lucky to have happened upon this sweet little community for our daughter. … About the facility: Has outdoor space, Provides meals … What would you change? Perhaps a bit healthier food. Snack is often goldfish, cheese, and crackers. Though meals seem to be pretty balanced. -
2019-2020 Year Review
We love Tiny Steps. It’s a home based daycare in the garden level of a brownstone with outdoor space. Our daughter started there when she was 15 weeks and the age range in her location goes from 3-16 months. The caretaker to baby ratio is good, in the warmer months they take the babies into the backyard almost every day. They provide food and asked us what types of foods were ok when she was first starting solids and then after that started giving her whatever age appropriate foods the older babies were eating. The caretakers and head teacher are all warm, loving people who care deeply about the babies. Leaving our daughter there at the beginning was a bit hard as the caretakers are primarily Russian/Ukrainian speaking so there’s a bit of a language barrier and they also have a bit of a “we’ve got this” attitude. This definitely isn’t a daycare for someone who wants to have a little more control over the daily schedule. After the first few weeks, we saw that our daughter was well taken care of and loved. All in all, we’ve had a great experience and our daughter comes home from daycare every day happy and well taken care of. … About the facility: Has outdoor space, Provides meals … What would you change? There’s quite a lot of turnover of caretakers aside from the head teacher so I felt like we never got to know them that well. -
Review from the 2019 PSP Daycare, Preschool Survey
We love Tiny Steps, our kid loves it, we feel confident leaving our baby there daily knowing he is well cared for. We love that they have a separate sleeping area (the kids seem to nap really well), their own backyard, and the kids get breakfast and lunch. The caretakers are good at helping you work out developmental steps without ever telling you what to do. DETAILS: Has outdoor space, Provides meals What you would change: There’s not a ton of communication (like no photos unless you ask), which was a little hard during the transition in. -
Review from the 2019 PSP Daycare, Preschool Survey
It was difficult for us to find a place that would take a kid for the whole day, but just a couple days a week. Someone referred us to Tiny Steps and it has been great! It took a little while for my son to be okay with being dropped off there but now he constantly talks about Regina and how wants hugs from her. They have a good schedule with music classes, art classes, french, as well as some lessons. They have an amazing backyard space with a garden for the little ones to play in. It takes a lot for me not to worry about my child while I'm at work and they knew that so the care takers (Regina and Sonya) are always available for updates via text, and they regularly send my pictures of my son playing with a big smile on his face. DETAILS: Has outdoor space, Provides meals -
Review from the 2018/2019 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
It's only been a few months, but so far, it's going well. Child seems to be very happy, and the caregivers are loving and friendly. Limited Engish speaking but have not had a problem with communicating anything regarding our child, payment, etc. About the facility: Has outdoor space, Provides meals -
Review from the 2017/2018 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
Full-time 5 days a week. This is the infant location of tiny steps. The caregivers take good care of the babies. My daughter never had a diaper rash there. They provide hot meal every day which it's very important for a full time working parents. The teachers are very sweet too. Sveta, the main teacher, always gives feedback of what happened during the day. I also love that they always give to the babies 2 crackers on the way home. About the facility: Has outdoor space, Provides meals. What would you change? A little more activities/more engagement with the babies. -
Review from the 2017/2018 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
The best things about this location of Tiny Steps are the people who take care of children. My little girl is greeted every day with a giant smile and a hug and she is clearly just so happy to be there. I drop her off knowing that she is well taken care of which makes leaving a little easier. They have yoga and music every week and do lots of art projects, which I like, but I have to say that the real draw is Diliya and the other caretakers. I feel like we hit the jack pot. About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has early morning hours, Provides meals. -
Review from the 2016/2017 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
Type: Daycare About the facility: Has outdoor space, Provides meals Review: Our child loves the caretakers here. Each morning he jumps into his stroller because he wants to go see Elya, Liz, Dianys, and the rest of the caretakers! This is a small physical space but the care we have received has been wonderful. I never worry about our son while he's there. We also love that they provide whole milk, breakfast, snacks, and lunch while our son is there! What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? The only thing I would change is better English communication skills from some of the caretakers. Otherwise we love it and wouldn't change a thing. -
Review Submitted via Fall 2015 Daycare/Preschool Survey
PROGRAM: St. Marks at Carlton TIME: Full time, 5 days AGE: < 1 year REVIEW: We have been very happy so far at Tiny Steps. Our baby has been there for about 3 months, from 7 to 10 mo in age. She adjusted immediately and has always been happy to be there and happy at pickup time. The ladies there are friendly and caring, and provide a quick update when I pick her up, plus a daily log of food, diapers, etc. They have worked with us on cloth diapers - I can tell it's not their favorite thing, but they have stuck with it and we've been flexible in return by giving them disposables for naps. They will start with your schedule around naps, etc., but very quickly move the babies onto their schedule in the nicest way possible. So, if you want things done 100% your way, this might not be the place for you, but if you can trust them and work with them, its great. We feel very comfortable dropping the baby off there every day. WOULD YOU RECOMMEND? (Hi/Rec/DoNot) Highly recommend WOULD YOU DO IT AGAIN? Absolutely -
Review Submitted via Fall 2015 Daycare/Preschool Survey
PROGRAM: 135 St. Marks Ave TIME: 3 days a week AGE: 1-2 years REVIEW: We feel very lucky to have found Tiny Steps and feel safe knowing that our daughter spends her days with Elya and Liz- there is always one other caretaker there as well, often Beatrice (who happens to be Liz's sister!)...there are two others who seem to rotate but whose names I don't know, regretfully. The space itself is the ground floor of a brownstone. It's not huge but sufficient and has a nice backyard space where the kids spend time when the weather permits. They are sensitive to the needs of each child and truly develop connections with each of the kids. We leave each day with a report on our daughter's day re:naps, eating, diapers. We also get a verbal report on how her day was- our daughter loves them and is a complete angel at Tiny Steps- saving any tantrums and meltdowns for us at home! :-) They have their own food that they serve for breakfast and lunch but you can always opt to bring your own. We have found Tiny Steps to be a great fit for our family. They are flexible and relaxed while also being attentive and structured enough that we feel she is being well cared for. WOULD YOU RECOMMEND? (Hi/Rec/DoNot) Highly recommend WOULD YOU DO IT AGAIN? Absolutely -
Tiny Steps - 122 Saint Marks location
Our son has been very happy at the Tiny Steps program at the 122 Saint Marks location. The program offers yoga, music and Spanish class every week as well as daily and weekly art projects. The teachers are very patient and nurturing. They are also very flexible if you need to drop off early or pick up late. As a mother who works full time this flexibility is great and I know that my son will be well taken care of. I would definitely recommend this program to others. -
Review of Tiny Steps Prospect Heights location
We have had our daughter Celia at Tiny Steps since she was just over three months old, for over a year now. They are wonderful with her. Tiny Steps combines a high level of professionalism with a warm, caring environment. The physical space is also great: clean and inviting, with good indoor and outdoor space. Our daughter eats and sleeps very well there. Tiny Steps has three different levels at this location, so that kids are always around other s at their same age and stage. We have strongly recommended Tiny Steps to our neighbors and will continue to do so. -

Review date June 2013 (for 2012-2013 year) Program: Length of time: fulltime 4 days/week Child's age: 3-4 years Review: Tiny Steps is a wonderfully warm, loving play-focused daycare/preschool. Children in the older program range from 2-4 and have music, yoga, Spanish, and cooking classes plus lots of outside time and free play time. The teachers are warm and loving and Julia, the head teacher, has been at the school for five years, so has tons of experience with kids of all types. She is profoundly calm and cheerful and a wonderful presence. Do you recommend? Review from 2013 Daycare/Preschool PSP Survey
Review date June 2013 (for 2012-2013 year) Program: Length of time: Full time, 5 days/week Child's age: 1-2 years Review: Our daughter is very happy at Tiny Steps - she runs down the steps into caregivers' arms every morning - and we feel very comfortable with their level of care. Their new space at 194 St Marks provides plenty of space to run around indoor and out, and has a separate sleeping area. The administration (Lena) is very very responsive via email, at all hours. It's definitely daycare, not a structured preschool environment, though we know parents who have kept their kids there through age 4 who were very happy with the additional effort staff made to provide enrichment for their older children. There is no formal communication about child development or daily activities, so I can't say we have a perfect sense for everything that happens over the course of the day. But the staff is always happy to talk and to answer questions when we ask. It has a great neighborhood feel to it. Do you recommend? (Hi/Rec/DoNot) Recommend -

review from September 2011
Comment: We have been sending our son, now 2, to Tiny Steps since he was 4 months old. Recently we moved him from the 4th Ave location to the St Marks location because it is much closer to where we live. We have been really happy with Tiny Steps. It has a nice relaxed vibe, and all the teachers are incredibly warm and affectionate. Our son has flourished there. On his last day at the 4th Ave location, his teachers were all near tears (as I was!) and presented us with a beautiful card and a gift of half a dozen miniature yellow construction equipment toys--cement mixer, dump truck, etc.--a very special gift as our son is obsessed with all heavy equipment and loves the color yellow. I certainly never had doubts that our son was loved but this really sealed it! The administrators, Marta and Lena, are also really great with kids and very understanding of different needs, very flexible about changing days if necessary (we send our son 4 days a week and the fifth day has switched a few times over the years), and very responsive. -
Re: Daycare Recommendations in Prospect Heights
Our daughter has been at tiny steps for a couple of years and we've had a great experience. She loves it. We have several friends whose kids currently go there or did previously and all had positive experiences.
