Our daughter E went to Tiny Steps MB from 6 months old until she turned 3. It has been an absolutely amazing experience. The caretakers are exactly that, they take care and are caring. E also made some great friends during her time here. To me it wasn’t just a day care - they actually taught E things (for example to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’) and had a full schedule of activities ranging from singing songs, making art, celebrating birthdays with balloons and playing in the garden. The vibe of the place is so positive and welcoming, having been gone for 2 months now, E still speaks with great regularity about her time here.Review from the Spring 2024 Early Education Survey
REVIEW: My daughter starting going to Tiny Steps MB since she was 5 months and she love it!! Moving to the bigger kids grogram, she comes home everyday with different art work, learning each week about something new (solar system, under the sea, the stars, plants etc.). They jhave Yoga, Art, music and moment. Shaki and the team are beyond great! So king, gentle, always happy to see all the kids and love each and everyone of them. My daughter LOVES going there!; Amenities: Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals;Infant care Sunflower / Bumble Bee / Tiny Steps MB / Zusin
Both of my kids went to Tiny Steps MB on 4th Ave. We loved it. The teachers are wonderful with the kids, they provide all the food (once they eat solids), they have a music teacher that comes in once a week and plays songs for the kids (they love it!), there's a big deck outside where they have a bunch of play equipment, they do so many cute art projects with the kids, and their prices are really good. I would be there forever if we could, but eventually my kids got too old.Day Care Recommendations - Central or North Slope
My kids both went to Tiny Steps MB (President and 4th Ave) and we loved it there. Marta is the owner and you can contact her at: tinyskidsdaycare@gmail.comTiny Steps MB / Tiny Kids - Great Infant Daycare in North Park Slope / Gowanus that has availability
My youngest is aging out of her infant daycare, and I wanted to spread the word that they have openings for Summer / Fall. We've been there since my youngest was 4 months old in 2019. It's going to be heartbreaking for me to not see them every day anymore! They are at President and 4th Ave. It's a block away from the Union st subway stop. I think they can take kids as young as 6 weeks. The vibe always feels calm, and my daughter absolutely loves it. She walks in, hugs her teachers, and sits down at the table to eat her 2nd breakfast with her buddies. She barely even looks back at me to say goodbye. It makes me feel so comfortable to see how at home she feels there. Once they eat food, they provide all the meals and snacks. They have a great outdoor private play area, and there is a music teacher that comes in once a week and plays songs for the kids. The videos I get of dancing toddlers to Wheels on the Bus are ridiculously cute. A bonus: they are very reasonably priced. Of all the daycares I toured, this one was my favorite and also the cheapest. You can reach the director Marta at: tinyskidsdaycare@gmail.comReview from the Spring 2023 Early Education Survey
Review: I cannot speak more highly of this daycare. Our head teacher was Shaki and she is highly experienced and loving. The outside of the place on the street is dismal, but inside it is very clean. We had to start at 3 months and it would ha e been very difficult but for the awesomeness of the teachers and the love he has experienced there. I cannot say enough good things about this gem of a daycare. Amenities: Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Nothing.daycare spot for ~1y/o

Location: 256 4th Avenue Brooklyn NY 11215 Type of facility: Daycare Review: No frills daycare with competent and loving caretakers that have been there for years! Marta runs the place- it has two classrooms with a range of ages in each. The place is clean, and the caretakers know babies well and are flexible with your kiddos schedule. What amenities does the facility have? Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything? Worth noting that don’t provide a ton of information throughout the day, just a report card at the end of the day with nap times, food eaten, etc. This was plenty for us but some might want more!Review from the Spring 2022 Early Childhood Education Survey
Location: 256 4th Ave Type of facility: Daycare Review: The caregivers are great; the facility has indoor and outdoor space; they are flexible, attentive and purposeful in the advancement of my little one's development. My child eats, naps, plays, and learns happily. What amenities does the facility have? Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything? More parent communication - pictures of my child's day-to-day. Is there anything you would like to add about how the school is handling the pandemic? Caregivers are masked; email communication in case of exposure.Review from the Spring 2022 Early Childhood Education Survey
Location: 4th Ave and President Type of facility: Daycare Review: Still relatively new here, but the caregivers are lovely and are able to work with my little one to address stage-appropriate development and separation anxiety. They are very flexible, caring and alert to her needs. Very pleased. What amenities does the facility have? Has outdoor space What would you change about the program, if anything? More day-to-day communication, but I would still rather the focus was on being present with my child, so overall I am happy. Is there anything you would like to add about how the school is handling the pandemic? Very careful with masked caregivers and pick up/drop-offsReview from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education Survey
Type of facility: Daycare Review: Our son has been at Tiny Steps MB for about a year now and we’ve had a great experience. He’s in the 0-2 room and it’s a wonderful first daycare experience. The caregivers are all warm and loving and have helped us with various transitions (i.e. switching to one nap a day). They’re extremely flexible and while they don’t have an app for communication, they do provide a sheet with daily info (diaper changes, bottle times, naps, etc) until they are one and then provide a verbal update at pick up after that. Since they are small they are really able to meet each kids personal needs (for example, when our son started he took a 3rd nap at the end of the day even though the other kids did not). During the warm months the kids go out on a small patio area almost daily and they’ve started to bring back some of their enrichment (i.e. a musician that comes in weekly) after having to do a lot virtually due to covid. They also celebrate all of the kids birthdays which is fun! There have been no covid issues since we’ve started (I think a benefit of being a small facility with fewer potential exposures) and the one time there was a close call (a family member of a kid tested positive, the kid was negative and hadn’t been at the facility for quite a few days) they were quick to alert the parents and implement extra cleaning, the caregivers also are always masked and parents are not allowed in the classroom. What amenities does the facility provide? Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides mealsRecommendation for Tiny Steps Daycare
We really love Tiny Steps daycare in Park Slope (managed by Lena). My child has attended at 38 St Johns Place since January 2019 when she was about 14 months old. (She previously attended Tiny Steps infant location on 4th Ave). I was very nervous about starting daycare, but from the very beginning have found the caregivers (especially Dilya, Elya, and Marsha) to be very loving, communicative, and helpful. In my opinion, the caregivers do a wonderful job with organized arts and crafts, music, and yoga. The children spend a lot of time in the backyard playing outside whenever the weather permits. The daycare provides breakfast, lunch, milk, and snacks. My child loves the caregivers and is excited to attend each day. My child attends two days per week, and we have even been allowed to make up occasional missed days. This flexibility is much appreciated. The daycare also stays open on various school holidays which is very helpful. We are not affiliated with Tiny Steps, only interested in sharing our positive experience.Review from the 2018/2019 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
The Tiny Steps One location on 4th Ave. is a pretty straightforward daycare for young babies and toddlers. We started my son there at four months and I think he’ll be there until 18 months. By straightforward, I just mean there’s not a rigid education or activity program - just lots of play and giving babies a structure for the day. The caregivers are so loving, and my son always seems so happy when he’s there. The space is simple but feels very warm. They’ve helped him reach his developmental milestones, and they always have lots of stories to tell me about his day. They’re not very formal with daily reporting, but often send photos throughout the day. The biggest downside to this location is the cramped downstairs and stroller parking - any more than two families trying to drop off or pick up at the same time is a disaster (and there are other daycares in the building). You also have to hoof your baby up a flight of stairs. I also want to note that this is a different provider than Tiny Steps MB, on another floor of the same building. It drove me crazy during my own daycare search that it was hard to find reviews that clearly distinguished between the different Tiny Steps daycare providers. About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has early morning hours, Provides mealsReview from the 2018/2019 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
We really like Tiny Steps. The caregivers are really sweet and really care about the kids, which is the most important thing. They've been flexible with changing up food, bottles to cups, working with nap times, etc. My son always reaches for Lena when he sees her and is always in a good mood when I go get him. When my son was sick and we were home with him for a few days, they checked in to see how he was doing which was so thoughtful. They have taught him things without me realizing it. They have music class for the little ones. Overall, really great. About the facility: Provides meals What would you change? I'm sure cooking food for a bunch of kids is tough but I don't love that chicken nuggets and fish sticks are on the weekly menu but every day care we looked at also had them in the rotation.Review from the 2016/2017 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
Type: Daycare About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Provides meals Review: Our son loved all of the caregivers and other kids at Tiny Steps and we credit them with his gentleness toward babies, interest in kids of all ages, impressive eating skills and mostly solid naps. He started part-time at 3 months and moved up to full-time around 6 months (an easy transition) and has successfully transitioned from pumped milk to solids and cow's milk and from two naps to one nap with Tiny Steps. Most importantly, we can tell the caregivers genuinely care for and are amused by our son and all the other children - they usually have a funny anecdote at the end of the day and are very affectionate with the babies. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? We haven't received a ton of communication about how our son spends his days, which is not a huge issue given that we know he is cared for, fed and gets lots of great playtime, but it would have been nice to have more details, especially in the beginning.Review from the 2016/2017 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
Type: Daycare About the facility: Has early morning hours, Provides meals Review: My son and daughter both attend the 4th avenue location, they both started at 3 months and are now 20 months and 4. Really like the small size of the groups and that they are grouped by age. Like that they serve meals that are nutritionally balanced and usually organic. They have a weekly schedule that is fairly active with cooking, yoga, music class and art projects every day. Both have always seemed to really enjoy it and we get feedback directly from the caregivers which gives it a homey feel. My 4 yr old is getting bored at this point but I think that's due to his own development and he's just ready to move on. My 20 month old has never cried once and walks in with a smile every single day, she seems to really be attached to her caregivers and loves it. I do have concerns she's not getting enough focus on basics like counting, alphabet ect. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? More outside time or an outdoor space. I do get frustrated that outdoor time is sporadic and not regular. Also I think both my kids would do better to not have the nap schedule, they sleep great on the weekend, during the weeks its a challenge and I think they just don't expend enough energy during they day to be really tired at night.Review submitted via the PSP Daycare/Preschool 2016 Survey
Age: < 1 year1-2 years Review: Teachers are warm, accommodating, communicative, energetic, and well-loved by the kids. We fully trust the caregivers and it's clear they really care about and care for our child. Our baby greets them with ecstatic wiggles every day, and comes home well-napped. They give us a "report card" every day that lists diaper changes, BMs, food given and times, naps and times, as well as items we need to send (more diapers, wipes, etc.). We could not be more thrilled with how easy the staff are to deal with, how flexible and polite and sweet they are, the policies of the day care, and they are very affordable as well!Review submitted via the 2014-2015 daycare/preschool survey
Program: Infant daycare Length of time: Full day, 2 days/week Child’s Age: < 1 year Type of facility: Privately run daycare/preschool with multiple classes and teachersThere is little/no parental involvement with the administration or running of the facility. REVIEW: I love the caregivers at Tiny Steps. They are energetic, involved and very loving of the babies they watch. They have helped my daughter advance with every transition from crawling, to standing and sitting up. They sing lots of songs and play games which stimulates the babies minds. They always give me feedback about her naps and feedings so I'm at ease with how her day went. I'm excited to be able to put my daughter in full time with her friends when I return to work. I look forward to when she goes on to the next level and starts learning yoga. She's a very active baby and will enjoy the exercise. Would you recommend? Length of time: Full day, 5 days per week Child’s Age: < 1 year Type of facility: Private, small daycare/playschool experience run out of a person's home with a very small number of childrenThere is little/no parental involvement with the administration or running of the facility. REVIEW: I love that the daycare is run by young women - they are attentive and kind and seem very happy to see my son when I bring him in every morning. The owner, Lena, is very easy to contact and she seems to keep the ladies all in the loop - i.e. when I have a different pick-up person coming. The ladies are also very, very good at keeping information flowing - they tell is when he has good days and bad, and ask how he slept the night before, etc. They follow our instructions about feeding and naps, and are flexible enough to change with those instructions as well. Only 2 things have been an issue so far: 1. sometimes we are unsure if there is a language barrier problem? Most of the time, there is no issue at all. But sometimes, we just wonder if maybe we don't understand each other exactly perfectly? and 2. There was initially a lot of mixing of staff and we were never sure who was specifically assigned to our son. There was a location change and then the staffing settled in, so there is no longer an issue, but for a little while it was unclear who to contact about my son. That has since resolved, and beautifully. Would you recommend? Highly recommend Would you send your child again? AbsolutelyReview submitted via the 2014-2015 daycare/preschool survey

Length of time: 5 days/ week full time Child’s Age: 1-2 years Type of facility: Private, small daycare/playschool experience run out of a person's home with a very small number of children REVIEW: We love Tiny Steps and it has been a great fit for our son. He has been going there full time since he was 14 months old, previous to that he went to another day care part-time. The women who work their are incredibly sweet and good with the children and provide feedback. The other children are really sweet as well. Our son will be going for another year (he will be 2-3). Some of the children are staying for another year who are 3-4, so there is a variety of ages there which is nice. They do more "activities" for the older children that involve more reading, writing, and learning, and they have a nice outdoor space. Would you recommend? Program: baby Length of time: 4 days/week Child’s Age: 1-2 years Type of facility: Privately run daycare/preschool with multiple classes and teachersThere is little/no parental involvement with the administration or running of the facility. REVIEW: The main caretakers (Elya and Liz) have been consistent since we started our son at Tiny Steps when he was 3 months old, though there has been a but of turn-over with the rest of the staff. Elya and Liz are warm, positive, and energetic. My son clearly adores all of the caretakers (and they clearly adore him) and is very excited to arrive each morning. The staff has been caring for my son from 3 months to 13 months (so far) and have helped us enormously with getting him on a consistent napping schedule, encouraging him to eat when he was starting solid foods, and other milestones we clearly needed help with. They're not especially proactive with giving us updates about his development, but we check in regularly and they're more than happy to share. We do get daily reports on his eating, drinking, napping, and diapers. When there have been things I've wanted done a bit differently than they usually do them (special meals, limiting his time in bouncy chairs, etc.), they've been happy to oblige. While there are some organized "circle time" activities, there's a lot of supervised free play time which I love because I think that's key to learning at this stage in their development. I love that the facility has a huge backyard so the kids get to play outside multiple times a day when it's nice. Now that it's summer they have a water mat and little pool that my son loves. The kids are all between 3 and 18 months old which means that the bigger kids are big enough for the little kids to learn from, but not so big that they get rough with the little ones. Overall, we're very happy with our experience at Tiny Steps and hope to stay with them for some time to come. Would you recommend? Highly recommend Would you send your child again? They provide the kids with breakfast, lunch, a snack, and whole organic milk. This is a huge bonus for working parents! The staff take the extra time to do activities with the kids, I.e. To clarify, this is a review for Tiny Steps MB infant program on the 2nd floor. This review is for the infant group at Marta's Tiny Steps MB on 4th Avenue. My son has been at Tiny Steps from 4 months to 14 months and he has done so well there! He and the rest of the babies are always so calm and happy when I pick him up. Natasha, Zhanna, and Marina are amazing caregivers. They run a tight ship, which was perfect for us and our baby. Not only did I never worry about the care he was receiving but I always felt so secure knowing he was safe at Tiny Steps during the day. They also have a late night Friday night service about once a month which was so fantastic! The only reason we're leaving the daycare is because we're leaving NYC, otherwise he'd be joining the toddler group at some point. I'm so glad we picked Tiny Steps for the last year - it was the best choice for our family.2014 Daycare/Preschool PSP review
Program: Infant Length of Time: Full time 5 days/week Child's Age: 1-2 years Review: My daughter has attended Tiny Steps since she was 4 months old. We have had a very positive experience. The caregivers, particularly Elya and Liz, are very warm and caring and my daughter literally runs into their arms each morning. They have been great through all her various transitions i.e. three naps to two, starting solids, breastmilk to whole milk, bottle to sippy cup, etc. They are also very receptive to any comments/concerns that we have regarding our daughter. Length of Time: Full time Child's Age: Review: Tiny Steps is a hidden gem! They have transformed a first-floor apartment into a very homey daycare space, complete with two playrooms, a changing station, nap room, and kitchen. There is outdoor space so when the weather cooperates, everyone goes outside to play. I love that they keep the ratio at 3:1 caretakers:children and that they enroll no more than 9 children at a time. It is also very important to me that all of the children are under the age of 2, so our daughter gets to interact with babies her own age (7 months) and has some older, more ambulatory children to imitate, but the age range is not so large that caretakers would have a terribly difficult time accommodating all levels. I have come to know all of the children and most of the parents over the 5 months that we have been sending our daughter there. Each day we get a report with the amount and types of food she consumed, nap schedule, and dirty diaper counts. They also include a section for supplies needed, so you can stock up before your child runs out of diapers, wipes, or spare clothes. When your child can eat solids, they provide the food, but they are open to you sending your own food if you prefer. I really appreciated the transition schedule that Tiny Steps follows. It really helped me to get used to dropping her off for a few partial days prior to returning to work; she had no problem adapting but it was a very difficult transition for me! The staff is caring and knowledgeable. We have had great conversations regarding sleep patterns, feeding, and physical/motor skill development. They encourage independence but are also very loving and affectionate with the children. Their rates are comparable to or slightly lower than most of the other places that we considered. I am very happy with our choice of daycare! Recommend (Hi/Rec/DoNot) Highly recommend Would you send your child again? Absolutely2014 Daycare/Preschool PSP review
Program: Bergen St (babies) Length of Time: 3 days/week Child's Age: Review: My son really likes his daycare at Tiny Steps. They provide meals (once your baby is eating solids) which is very helpful. They require the babies to be there for the full day but you can pick the number of days/week. My son sleeps and eats well there and is always happy when I pick him up. He was not taking a bottle before he started there and the workers managed to get him to take one right away. The place is clean and fairly new, with an outdoor space. Every day they provide an information sheet about my son's day-- diapers, food, naps. No details about play or anything like that, so if you want more details you will be disappointed. One complaint that I have is that the staff turnover is high. The main teacher has remained the same the entire time my son has been there (6 months) but the other women (3-4 per day) have switched out. At this point I don't even know their names. That being said, they all seem to take good care and have genuine affection for my baby. Recommend (Hi/Rec/DoNot) Recommend Would you send your child again? Program: Baltic Street Length of Time: 3 days/week Child's Age: 1-2 years Review: Our daughter attended Tiny Steps when she was 1 year old up until she turned 2. We felt blessed to have Tanya, Kate and Shaki as our caretakers. They were attentive, nurturing and gentle. It was the perfect place for our daughter at that age. She quickly adjusted to the nap and meal schedule, and we never worried about her when we dropped her off. They always honored our requests re: feeding and discipline (like getting rid of the paci). This location is wonderful because of the spacious backyard and it's close to the Atlantic subway stop. When our daughter turned two, we decided to switch her out of this location to a more structured daycare (with organized activities and more kids her age and older). Review date June 2013 (for 2012-2013 year) Program: Length of time: Full time Child's age: 1-2 years Review: The teachers are super loving and fun. I would say the philosophy is pretty laid-back and they try to male each child feel at home. The facility is your basic floor-through garden apt. With a nice big backyard the kids spend their time in during the warmer months. Our son was pretty happy to transition from being home with his mom to full-time daycare so we haven't had any transition issues. In fact he eats and sleeps way more at school then he does at home! We get reports everyday as to what he's eating and how long he's sleeping. They'll tell if he's saying new words, etc Do you recommend? Review date June 2013 (for 2012-2013 year) Program: Length of time: Full day, 4 days a week Child's age: 1-2 years Review: The caretakers here are fantastic with the kids, very playful and energetic and always genuinely happy to see each kid. My son gets very excited every day when I drop him off, and he's never once cried. They clearly love the kids, and he loves them. One thing that sold me was that they have a 3:1 kid to caretaker ratio. They have someone come in to do music and yoga classes, which is nice. I do wish they were better about communicating just what the kids do all day long. They give report cards about diaper changes, food, and naps, but not activities. This is not a place that has a curriculum or learning "theme" of the month, at least with the 18 month and younger kids, which I've discovered some daycares do. The facility itself is nothing special, though they've made it a bit more cheerful lately. It's pretty small, with a little outdoor space, but I found that to be the case with all the daycares I visited in the area. Overall, it's not perfect (I'm sure I wouldn't ever think any place was perfect!), but I love the caretakers and my son has been very happy there. Do you recommend? I highly recommend Tiny Steps as a wonderful, bright, caring and nurturing place that offers a whole bunch of classes for the little ones.,teach them everything from their ABC's, numbers, letter ,shapes, music, dance .Kids also learn life enhancement skills like sharing, patience, understanding and love. Our 14 month old daughter has gone to Tiny Steps since she was about 3 months old and it's been a really positive experience. She has been with the same 3 providers for the duration and is always happy when I drop her off. I think it's really helped with her socialization as well, and they've been great about getting her onto a nap schedule. They do have an outdoor play area as well which I really like. My only caveat is that they do provide food and milk for them once they start eating solids, and I'm not always crazy about what they get (lots of frozen fish sticks, waffles, etc). However, they have no problem if you want to bring food from home instead. August 2012(no subject)
Review Date 2012 Length of TIme: 5 days/week, 8-6 Child's Age: 2-3 years Review: Our son has been there full time since he was 3 months old. The caregivers have been pretty good for the most part. They are caring, take good care of our son, and our son has developed on all the usual areas for a toddler. My one critique is that they are not as tightly run an operation as I would like. We do not get a ton of information about what my son does all day, they are a little lax about not always being there by 8 a.m. on the dot in the mornings, and the owners do not give a lot of information in advance about what's going on with the daycare. I've had great experiences with Tiny Steps! (November 2011)Review from PSP Survey, 2010
Name of Program: Full days 4 days/week KID AGE:1-2 years We've been very happy with Tiny Steps. The caregivers are loving and affectionate with the children, and very attentive to and responsive of their individual needs. I loved the "report card" we got every day when our son was an infant, and now that he's in the toddler group he is doing all kinds of great art and music activities. I like that the different age groups are in different spaces, with enough room to run etc., and that there is a backyard for the kids (although I wish they went outside more!). The directors are flexible and communicative and I feel my son is being very well cared for. Highly Recommend/Recommend or Do Not Recommend?--Highly recommend Review Date: Fall 2010(no subject)
My child has been attending Tiny Steps for over a year already.I have to tell that we have been very satisfied with the service they provide. It`s a warm, fun, very friendly, nurturing place! My son recently graduated from the infant group and was moved to the next level-intermediate group. And this is one of the things I really like about Tiny Steps - children can stay there for almost 4 years straight . They constantly work on improving their service-as I know a new Spanish class has been included in the program in addition to music and yoga/movement,they do occasional "get together " with fun shows for the kids(characters, clowns, puppet show etc). Of course the most important thing is that my little guy seems to be very happy there, every morning he looks forward to it and when I drop him off ,he just rushes into the playroom and in the evening he proudly hands me the project he made that day:)) -they follow a daily pre-school curriculum. In the other words I highly recommend this day care. (may 2010)(no subject)
