2018 Birth Survey
I began my pregnancy with a Midwives practice planning to have an un-medicated vaginal delivery, but when I was diagnosed with placenta previa, I wanted to find a OBGYN to directly manage my care. After meeting with 3 OBGYNs, I decided to go with Dr. Rafael who is a Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist, and he was AMAZING! He was very thorough and patient in his communication. He was completely receptive to my preferences of trying for a vaginal birth if I was on the border of what's allowed under ACOG guidelines. When that didn't happen, he made sure that I had as natural a Cesarean as possible, according to my preferences. The other OBGYNs were not as flexible, told me stories of worst case scenario, or would apply the most conservative ACOG guidelines. Dr. Rafael treated me like an individual patient, and considered the unique circumstances of my situation when planning my birth. He never made me feel scared about the risks, but instead he had a measured and balanced approach in his explanations and recommendations. I highly highly recommend Dr. Rafael if you need a MFM. He is truly a caring and compassionate doctor!
