- Support Groups from the Motherhood CenterI had a great few virtual group sessions at the Motherhood Center to help with postpartum issues. My only complaint is that it's drop in, so there was not necessarily consistency between group members each week.
- Therapist for postpartum anxietyAt the suggestion of PSPers, I went to the Motherhood Center. They were able to connect me with a practitioner quickly (within a few days of my initial email). If calling feels overwhelming, you can send an inquiry through their website. They also offer three tiers (support groups, therapist, and support group and therapist). I was prescribed medication within 4 days of my initial inquiry which felt really promising.
- Therapist for postpartum anxietyI sought treatment at the Motherhood Center and it has made a world of difference. They offer therapy, medication treatment, and more. Highly recommended.
- Therapist for postpartum anxietyHighly recommend The Motherhood Center, and Stephanie Simon https://www.drstephaniesimon.com/ (I found her through the Motherhood Center, but she has since gone out on her own).
- Therapist for postpartum anxietyI cannot recommend The Motherhood Center enough. It provides an in depth group experience with therapy and psychiatry.
- On the baby fence at 39Apart from the physical elements, I highly encourage you to connect with The Motherhood Center. I credit their support group for moms considering or having another baby after a PMAD (postpartum anxiety or depression) for helping me have a vastly different pregnancy and postpartum experience the second time. And there were a lot of folks in my group who had birth trauma, or were scarred from having babies in the pandemic. You don’t have to be pregnant to join, you can be considering having another. The group and staff were so helpful. I also did EMDR therapy to deal with some birth trauma. Regardless of if you decide to have another kid, you deserve healing.
- Looking for therapist for post partum anxietyI wanted to give you a strong recommendation for doing an intake with The Motherhood Center of New York: https://www.themotherhoodcenter.com/. I'm not sure if they are offering in-person outpatient therapy yet - but they are ramping up their in person offering. I am 18 months post-partum with my second child. I had anxiety and depression during pregnancy with my first, and then post-partum with my second child. I had my first real therapy experience seeking help after the second birth. TMC has been amazing for me because they are at the cutting edge of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, both from a therapy and medication perspective. I have had outpatient therapy, psychiatry and two separate stays in their partial hospitalization program (a separate story...). They were a reassuring place to have a first therapy experience. A few specifics that might be helpful: I did remote outpatient therapy then in-person for their partial hospitalization program. Remote (due to Covid) was surprisingly productive compared to in person. They helped me think about how to create a private space in the home (it's remarkable what sound machines can do...). One lesson I have learnt from peers who sought help at TMC is that treating anxiety BEFORE birth hugely reduces the risk of post-partum mental health issues. So, it's so sensible for you to seek help before a second pregnancy. I think TMC would tell you that there is every chance you can make that second experience an easier one than the first. TMC has some great (I think, remote) support groups for people planning another pregnancy after a post-partum mental health disorder.
- Looking for therapist for post partum anxietyI have been working with a psychiatrist at The Motherhood Center and have found their processes and services to be so wonderful – it's awesome to work with professionals who are specifically experts in perinatal mental health. I have not worked with their therapists/psychologists, but assume they will be equally great (more info here: https://www.themotherhoodcenter.com/counseling-and-consultation-overview). I believe they do both in-person at their Manhattan office and virtual sessions. I highly recommend completing an initial evaluation with them and seeing if they could be a good fit for you.
- Psychiatrist for severe postpartum anxietyI have had a positive experience with The Motherhood Center. I have diagnosed Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder, and I regularly see a therapist, as well as a psychiatrist for medication management (both outside of The Motherhood Center). When I was pregnant last year, I decided I would try to taper off my anxiety medication, with my providers' support and supervision. This ended up not being the right move, and resulted in a severe and debilitating period of anxiety. I wanted to meet with someone experienced in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, so I reached out to The Motherhood Center. I had a virtual 90-minute initial evaluation with Alison Workman, NP, which was $250 out-of-pocket (this was Nov. 2021). The evaluation was incredibly thorough and compassionate, and she consulted with a senior psychiatrist (this is their standard practice) before giving me her recommendations. The goal of my visit was to get a second opinion on a way forward for my medication management during pregnancy and to take this back to my regular psychiatrist, but after this initial evaluation, I felt like I would be very comfortable seeing providers again from The Motherhood Center if I ever needed that.
