The Modern Chemist
Where to Source Difficult to Find MedicationThe Modern Chemist, with locations in Park Slope and DUMBO, is a compounding pharmacy I’ve used for two separate meds that needed to come from such a place. I had to pay out of pocket for both.
Where to find cute cards? Also Modern Chemist has some decent ones (more basic but still cute) for if you live near one (couple locations but one is on 7th Ave, more Center Slope and there’s another on Sackett and 4th Ave) and are in a jam for occasions that are basic - birthday, new baby etc
Eye exam for drivers license renewalI went to The Modern Chemist on 7th Ave and 2nd Street to have this done. It was quick and easy- in and out in under 5-minutes and they submit all of the paperwork for you. The do charge a fee (I think $20), but it was completely worth it for how easy it was. This was pre-pandemic, so I would call just to confirm this is all still the case. There is a link on the DMV’s website that has a list of eye testing centers based on zip code. I picked The Modern Chemist because it was most convenient for me.
pharmacy that will recycle or better yet re-use pill bottles ?Try Modern Chemist on 4th and Sackett. The pharmacist is lovely and has previously said I can bring in my own glass bottles which he will fill with ibuprofen etc.
Know any specialty pharmacies in Brooklyn?Modern Chemist is great! They have 2 locations- on on 7th ave and 2nd street and one on 4th ave and Union.
2018 ReviewModern Chemist on 4th Ave has amazing customer service. I am always surprised by them offering to go above and beyond any reasonable expectation. Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and I will never forget them delivering a much needed prescription when I was stuck at home with a very sick baby and toddler. Please use them so we don’t lose another excellent local business!
2018 ReviewGo to Modern Chemist on 7th Ave and 2nd St (other locations also). They're lovely, responsive, and offer personal service.
Shout out for The Modern Chemist - New Pharmacy in the NeighborhoodI second this! We really needed a pharmacy nearby and I was so happy when they opened. They are a small store so they don't have the selection of your average Duane Reade, but in several cases when they did not have a particular brand in stock, they special-ordered it for me. Each time, it came the next day and the price was in line with what you'd expect from a chain. I hope they are successful in their new space!
Shout out for The Modern Chemist - New Pharmacy in the NeighborhoodI just wanted to give a shout out to The Modern Chemist, the new pharmacy (boutique drugstore) that recently opened on the corner of 4th and Sackett. It's such a breath of fresh air to go to a small, clean, beautifully set up pharmacy to pick up prescriptions and actually speak to someone knowledgable and pleasant. I imagine that that's what it was like in the "old days" when the pharmacist knew you and your family and went out of his way to provide the best service possible. Par, the pharmacist with whom I dealt, called my insurance for me when I didn't have my card with me and kept me apprised of when things would be in and were ready by phone. He engaged my son in conversation while I was there. And he knew his stuff. I have never been happier when I left a pharmacy! And, to top it off, they have great health and beauty products, samples of products when you make a purchase and lots of homeopathic and kids options. I have no affiliation with them - just a very satisfied customer. I really hope they thrive and are around for a long time!
(no subject)I'm sorry to hear you had a terrible expereience at Modern Chemist. I wanted to let the group know though, we've been using Mondern Chemist for several years and have been very satisified. Carlos, the owner who is almost always there is great. He even will walk the prescriptions out if you are double parked. But good luck! (Feb 2012)
(no subject)I love Carlos. I have never given much thought to who fills my prescription before him but I think he is terrific. (Feb 2012)
(no subject)The pharmacy next to Tarzian is called The Modern Chemist. They will split pills (among many other kid-helpful things) and are so so nice and helpful there (including bringing your prescription to you in a pinch). I can’t recommend them enough…plus they have a nice train table!
