  • Seeking advice on adopting a cat

Brooklyn cat cafe is where we found ours in April of 2020! (And we recently employed one of their volunteers, who is also an adopter of one of their disabled cats, as a cat sitter while we were away - which was great). Their e-news letters show how urgent it is for cats to be adopted ; seems global warming is causing a load of kittens to be born at this time of year. Note that they do like you to adopt two kittens rather than one. I wasn’t sure about this at first, but seeing how our two live together I really understand that now.
  • Looking for a Cat - animal shelters?

I second the recommendation for Brooklyn cat cafe. Not only do they have super sweet cats that you can visit at the cafe but they also have a ton of kittens available for adoption. One of them is the sweetest little thing that we just rescued. They were the only organization that responded when we asked for help figuring out low cost pet care and help finding a foster home. They also offer a Foster to adopt program which is a great way to get support while in the adoption process. So I feel like not only are they a great place to find a kitty they are also a wonderful community resource.
  • Looking for a Cat - animal shelters?

Seconding the recommendation for Brooklyn Cat Cafe. It’s a great way to really spend time with cats and see their personalities before you pick one. When we were there, there were tons of kittens and cats, and the staff were very friendly and interested in helping potential adopters.

  • Fostering/Adopting a Cat

I've fostered a bunch of cats through BBAWC/BK Cat Cafe, also rescued and socialized some kittens through them, and love working with Vicky, Adelia, and Julia. I believe Julia is the one that coordinates fosters. They have relationships with vets in the area and will take care of the fosters' medical needs should anything happen.
  • Kittens

I don't know about hypoallergenic, the Brooklyn Cat Cafe is where we recently adopted our two kittens. However, their policy is that you can't adopt a sole kitten unless you already have a cat - they don't think kittens are happy by themselves without another cat around. They have a whole procedure, forms to fill out etc, and I've found the adoption coordinator very communicative.
