What month and year was your child born? November 2022 Review: I loved this virtual live class! There was about 6 couples enrolled. It was nice to learn and be connect with others virtually. Everything I learned helped me prepare and lessen my anxiety leading up to the birth of my baby boy. I felt they really gave me a picture of what to expect in the hospital setting and how to best prepare and advocate for myself to have the birth I wanted. It was a 8 class course (Sunday mornings from 9-12) and 2 weekdays evenings.

What month and year was your child born? December 2022 Review: This is a great class if you’re interested in an unmedicated birth! I wasn’t sure about a virtual class but it was absolutely wonderful and I learned so much.
  • Homebirth midwives

My 2021 homebirth was with Tanya Wills (now of Manhattan Birth) and Robina Khalid (of Small Things Grow). I have nothing but good things to say about them and my homebirth!

I’m currently taking Manhattan Birth’s Comprehensive Childbirth class (I’ve finished 2 out of 6 sessions). I’m finding it very informative and detailed so far. It comes with a free lactation and newborn care class, as well. If you do take it, definitely do the reading beforehand. The book they recommend (Natural Childbirth, The Bradley Method) goes much more in depth than the class does in terms of biomechanics and evidence.

They were GREAT. No nonsense super informative and inclusive. Have your birthing partner come with you and learn how to support you in labor. It made a huge difference for me feeling supported going in.
  • Suck training for breastfeeding?

I can't recommend Tanya Wills from Manhattan Birth enough, she got me and my son through tons of breastfeeding obstacles including my son not being able to move his tongue correctly so he could actually get milk out.

Tanya is wonderful, honest and skillful. Her advice was key in making my breastfeeding experience better when things were really hard.

There is no one who knows lactation like Tanya

For our home birth, the search for a midwife was extensive. Once we met Tanya, I knew she was the perfect person to help bring my child into the world. She is extraordinary. From the moment I met Tanya, she was a kindred spirit; She was someone I felt comfortable with, someone I could trust, someone I could laugh and joke with...all things that I needed to have the kind of environment for the ideal home birth. With her personalized ongoing care throughout my pregnancy, we developed a relationship that made me feel both empowered to accomplish anything that came my way during birth and safe that if for some reason I couldn't, I was in the best of hands. I got a ton out of this Bradley class, and so did my husband. It's on the Upper West Side, so it's a trip. But we learned a lot about how to cope with labor, what to expect, and how to deal with the unexpected. Tanya is warm and funny. The class is very down to earth, and while it focuses on unmedicated childbirth (since it's Bradley), it isn't super crunchy or new-agey. It does help you know what to expect with epidurals, inductions, and c-sections, in a pretty even-handed way. Based on February 2017 birth experience

Manhattan Birth intensive class with Tanya Wills and Erica St Lawrence We're glad we took this birthing class, delivered over two Saturdays. Tanya's style wasn't quite for me, but she was still nice and smart, and Erica was absolutely fantastic. We came away from this class with a birth plan, and a fairly complete understanding of what to expect during the birth. Somewhat ironically, even though this class focuses more on natural birth, it helped my wife realize that an epidural might be better for her -- which in a way, means that this was truly an excellent, unbiased class. Type: Bradley childbirth class Review: Our class with Tanya was amazing! She was extremely knowledgeable (experience as a doula, lactation consultant, midwife, and mom) and enthusiastic. We were better prepared for labor after going through her class, and were able to have a natural/drug-free birth as a result. Insurance: Not covered by insurance. Based on an October 2015 birth

Review: Tanya was wonderful! She came to my apartment a few days after we came home from the hospital and after my milk came in. My son was born full term but was small for his gestational age, so we were very concerned that he was getting enough milk to start gaining weight. She was first and foremost reassuring that I was doing things right and that he would be fine. She weighed him before and after a feed to see how much he was taking, helped with my latch, helped me set a breastfeeding plan, and even gave me advice about how to start preparing for work when the time came. She's also a Bradley instructor, so she was very interested in our birth experience and had a real wealth of knowledge. Insurance: Tanya was wonderful! Bradley Birth Class Member Review: Tanya was phenomenal in preparing us for the birth of our son. Tanya passionate about birth, nonjudgmental and supportive. The class is longer than others, but worth the time for something so life-changing and important. (Review submitted via the 2014 Birthing Survey) Insurance details: unsure

natural childbirth - Bradley Method Member Review: Worth ever minute I spent on the train hiking up to the upper west side. This is the most comprehensive birthing class I've found. Tanya is a blast, so classes are fun. The experience of being in this class empowered me with all of the knowledge I needed walking into my labor. I felt so cool and calm as my water broke, that I was just laughing and giddy, completely relaxed and genuinely excited for what lay before me. My birth experience was the most incredible thing I've ever gone through and exactly as I hoped it would go. I felt completely prepared and have Tanya's class to thank for that. She goes above and beyond to help make sure each of her students are comfortable with their birth team and will email and chat with you after hours to help with any issues you have. Perhaps the best thing is that the alumni network that comes out of this class is so powerful and engaged. Like PSP, it is extremely helpful as you transition into this new life phase. Do not come here if you are not genuinely interested in considering natural childbirth. Insurance details: no (Review submitted via the 2014 Birthing Survey)
