Re: Seeking Recommendations for Pediatric Dental Sedation
We have gone to Dr. Sean Adler at Smiles 4 Kids (https://smiles4kids.com/) on the UES. They do not take insurance, but they have forms that you can fill out / they can help you with, to get out of network coverage. We had to do sedation for my then 5 year old for a baby root canal (that could have turned into an extraction). We had previously had to do an extraction without sedation (just gas + novacaine), and when we discovered a problem with a second tooth, her then-dentist recommended sedation for the second tooth. Sedation was the right choice for us/our kiddo at the time. For us, we considered our daughter's temperament (high levels of anxiety), the experience that she had with the extraction with just gas + novacaine (very stressful), and the subsequent dental appointments (it took 2 hours to get dental xrays because she was getting very wound up and anxious). She had no ill effects from the sedation, and I would consider sedation for any future (major) dental work.Re: Pediatric Dentistry in a Hospital for a Procedure
We had a similar issue about 2 years ago when our daughter was about 2. We needed major work done, similar to you, and no normal pediatric dentist would do the work because we needed anesthesia and our daughter was so young. It didn't help that all of the hospitals on your list had long wait-lists (1+ year) due to backups from COVID. I wouldn't be surprised if they still had backlogs. That wasn't an option for us because we were in something approaching an emergency. We ended up at Smiles4Kids, with Dr. Sean Adler (I'm omitting a tremendous amount of work my wife put in to find someone). On the downside, they take no insurance and our work ended up costing us several thousand dollars. On the plus side, they were able to take us within a few days, they have an anesthesiologist who comes to their office, and Dr. Sean was fantastic. The work was quick, and our daughter recovered very well. We were so happy with our experience that we still use Dr. Sean despite the distance and expense.
