  • ISO - Reasonably price Good Curly Hair Cut

Tanya at Smart Hair Studio in Windsor Terrace is really skilled. Going there for the past few years, I have been really happy with how she has cut my curly and wavy hair.
  • ISO haircut for 4 year old girl

We've had good experiences at Smart Hair Studio in South Slope/North Windsor Terrace, first taking our daughter when she was about 2--she also has fine hair and bangs though so far she's wanted to keep the bangs, but the stylists we've worked with have helped blend/grow out some extra bang hair into the rest of her hair to thicken it up over the years. The stylist who used to cut our daughter's hair at Smart Hair, Ashley, recently opened her own salon, Tangled NYC, a few blocks from where we live (it's on East 4th near Fort Hamilton in Windsor Terrace) so now we go there and my daughter loves it.
  • Thank you!! Re: Keratin Treatment Recommendations

I ended up seeing Angela at Smart Hair on Saturday and she was fabulous. I feel like the “after” picture in a Finesse shampoo commercial from the 90s.
  • Hair salon recommendation

Fan of Smart Hair Studio. Very good prices too.
  • Hair salon recommendation

Smart Hair Studio is also really good and reasonably priced.
  • ISO Hair Colorist

I love Angela at Smart Hair on PPW. She did my highlights back in June. It was my first time doing them and she did a great job.
  • Any recommendations for a good colorist in PS or near?

Not sure if this is too far out of PS but I have excellent luck with Smart Hair Studio in Windsor terrace. They also carry a complete line of very effective organic coloring.
  • Good place for kids AND adults haircut

We all go to Smart Hair Studio on PPW. They do a great job!
  • Curly girl hair advice/salon needed!

Ashley at SmartHair did an awesome job with my daughter’s ringlets! Everyone at the salon is lovely.
  • ISO local haircut

I love Smart Hair Studio on PPW. I also used to trek into Manhattan, paid 2-3 x's as much money to get my hair cut or highlighted. I stopped doing that when our finances changed and we had a small child to deal with. I am so glad I was forced to look locally. The experience has been as good, if not better, than my experiences in the city -- and it is cheaper and easier. I see Ashley for cuts and Anna for highlights (but that is only because I started off that way -- I would trust both of them with both).
  • ISO: Curly Hair Stylist (for Adult)

I am quite happy with Tanya, owner of Smart Hair in Windsor Terrace. She does a dry cut and wash, has great products, is fun to talk with and the rate is only $70!
  • ISO recs for short women’s haircut

I love Angela at Smart Hair Studio. She’s cut my hair for years, and I’ve loved all my haircuts, especially the short haircuts she’s given me recently. I think they charge $60-65. They’re on PPW in Windsor Terrace.
  • ISO recs for short women’s haircut

I love Tanya at Smart Hair Studio. It's not local to where I live, but I keep going back! She has done a great job making the best out of my hair through all sorts of pregnancy related changes. Reasonably priced. Prices are on their website and the online booking option is great.
  • Haircuts

I just took my son (15 months) to Smart Hair on Prospect Park West and 19th Street. Ask for Maryana: she cut my son’s hair while he was facing me, sitting in my lap and trying to see the scissors! She has a young son and has good practice. No tears, very fast and looked pretty good, $25 cash plus tax and tip - not bad
  • Haircut for tween girl?

We’ve had consistently great experiences with all the stylists at Smart Hair Studio on PPW and 17th
  • Haircut for tween girl?

I don't have a daughter, but I get my hair cut by Ashley at Smart Hair Studio and she always does an excellent job and the prices are affordable.
  • Haircut for tween girl?

We are fans of Smart studio on 17th and PPW. Reasonable prices for kids and adults and great cuts.
  • Kids haircut

I have been going to http://www.smarthairstudiony.com/ smart hair studio salon for 4 years. I love the cuts Tanya gives me... while I am there I see many many kids go to two of the other stylists... and the cuts are great (ranging from cute to pre-teen funky) (Ashely and Anna) very good prices. in windsor terrace.
  • 2018 Review

We see Ashley at smart hair studio but they only see kids during the week. She is great and always does an awesome job. And all my son needs is a couple Lolipops.
  • SUMMARY: Where to get crazy curly hair cut

Tanya at smart hair studio in south slope, almost Windsor terrace knows how to cut curly hair. They don't do kid's cuts with all the bells, whistles and toys though. So your daughter would need to be chill with the experience. We're not at haircut age yet, so haven't been through it with my curly haired babe. Just happy with my own cuts.
  • Re: Cezanne hair treatment?

SmartHair studio on PPW offers both a full and "express" Cezanne treatment. I've had the full once, the express twice, and greatly prefer the express (not just because it's about two hours faster...) I can't explain why but the results seemed better for my hair with the less intense treatment. It definitely calms frizz and makes my thick, unruly hair more manageable, but doesn't affect the curl. It's not a miracle, more of a relief. SmartHair also has discounts on the express treatment on Mondays and Thursdays. Results seem to last about three months for me though they say it can be up to six.
  • [PSPTweens] local salon for dip-dye

I second the Smart Hair studio recommendation. We just got my daughter's ends dyed (including bleaching- her hair is dark brown) there yesterday! They did a great job and she's thrilled with it. They had lots of funky colors and gave good recommendations on color intensity and after care. It was not cheap ($110 for the bleaching and color) but I don't really have anything to compare it to. I find their haircuts to be reasonably priced so I assume this is within a reasonable range as well.
  • [PSPTweens] local salon for dip-dye

We go to Smart Hair Studio in Windsor Terrace, on Prospect Park West near 17 St. I don't have their info handy but they have a website if you look them up. My daughter has been getting her hair done in funky colors for more than a year and each time they've done a great job. The stylists are very nice and friendly and they give sound advice as to what would work and what wouldn't. I like that they care about my daughter's hair and scalp and will talk to her about alternatives when she has a too crazy idea. We've seen Ashley and Anna there and both are great.
  • [PSPTweens] local salon for dip-dye

Try Ashley at Smart Hair in Windsor Terrace (PPW & 17th). Most reasonably priced and she's young, sweet and skillful. She treated my daughter like a queen and made her feel really special! Plus, it's a great all-women salon with a true family vibe.
  • [PSPTweens] local salon for dip-dye

My daughter had a good experience at Smart Hair Salon on PPW between 17/18 with Ashley. She just did blond streaks, but they are reasonably priced, use organic products and see a lot of teens and tweens for color.
  • Re: ISO: boy haircut recs

I recommend Ashley at Smart Hair Studio on PPW in Windsor Terrace. She's great with my preschooler and has been giving him cute cuts that grow out well since he was 1 1/2. I think their price is $20 for a boy's cut. They've been super welcoming to all kids that I've seen, and they have a plain booster for the chair. They are not a kid's place though so if you need videos or entertainment you have to bring your own. We've always just watched a video on a phone if he needs distraction and it has worked out great.
  • Haircuts for Curly Hair

I second Ashley at Smart Hair Studio for kids, she cuts my daughters hair and Tanya cuts my (VERY) curly hair. She gives a great cut, but not so great at styling. It looks better when I use Devachon products and do it myself- but she gives an amazing cut.
  • Haircuts for Curly Hair

My daughter and I go to Ashley at Smart Hair Studio. We've also gone to Tanya, one of the owners. They understand curly hair and are very reasonably priced.
  • Great Hair stylist in the Slope: Summary and thanks

Hi! Tanya at Smart Hair Studio is simply amazing. She has given me the best cut and color of my life!
  • Re: ISO: natural hair dye salon in park slope?

I highly recommend Smart Hair Studio for organic color. Tanya is wonderful!
  • Back Hair Salon recommendations

I love Tanya at Smart Hair Studio on Prospect Park West just past 17th street (I think) She's good with long hair as well.
  • ISO: hair salon (not Lulu's) for 4-year-old girl

I will FOURTH the recommendation for Smart Hair Studio - smarthairstudiony.com on Prospect Park West between 17th and 18th. Everyone there is so nice! I just got an awesome manicure from Stella as well as excellent threading. She also does waxing in what looks like a really comfy (if you can use comfy and waxing in the same sentence) and totally private (soundproof?) room in the back. They recently renovated and have a lot more space. I've seen them be very loving and generous to kids and their parents - they get what they need to do to pamper moms and dads and get kids cuts done quickly and efficiently. It's great to have such a lovely group of talented cutters, colorists and now mani/pedi/waxer/threaders in the hood.
  • ISO: hair salon (not Lulu's) for 4-year-old girl

Well I'll go ahead and third it (is that grammatically correct?) I see Tanya and she is wonderful. I always get the best haircut. My son sees Ashley and she does a great job as well. Another option could be Margaret at If I Were a Toy. My daughter loves her. I've been trying to convince her to switch to Smart so we can all go to the same place, but no dice. It is in a toy store like Lulu's but I feel like Margaret actually takes her time- not the assembly line feeling I got on our one visit to Lulu's.
  • ISO: hair salon (not Lulu's) for 4-year-old girl

I second the recommendation for Smart Hair Studio. All the stylists are great for adults and kids, and the salon now offers manicures, waxing and threading services for mom!
  • ISO: hair salon (not Lulu's) for 4-year-old girl

I second Ashley at Smart Hair Studio. She is patient with my squirmy 2.5 yo and gives her a cut that we get compliments on. We have been going to her since my daughter's first official haircut, almost 2 years ago now. It also helps that mommy gets her hair cut there was well with Tanya.
  • ISO: hair salon (not Lulu's) for 4-year-old girl

Ashley at Smart Hair Studio did a lovely job on my 2 yo's hair. $20
  • Re: [PSP] Organic hair dye

They do both organic and regular so make sure to specify that you are interested in organic. I get my grays covered and am always happy with the organic color.
  • Re: Where can I get a decent blowout in the neighborhood?

I think that Smart Hair Salon on PPW is more reasonably priced, and they do a great job. (As anyone who knows me can plainly see, I have yet to avail myself of that service, but my daughter has!)
  • (no subject)

I take my 24 month old daughter to Smart Hair Studio, the same place I get my own hair cut and colored. They have a booster seat for the kids although I may hold her on my lap if she seems a little squeamish. I will be bringing my iPad with a video for distraction. Everyone there is very sweet and very patient with kids. I find it easiest to make an appointment using their online system so you can see all the available appointments at once
  • (no subject)

I would also like to recommend Smart Hair Studio. I took my almost 2 year old and my iPhone armed with a video. She sat on my lap and it worked out very well. I get my hair done there and have always been very happy. September 2012
  • Where to get my son's long hair cut?

Smart Hair on PPW is also great, although less kid-oriented (ie no TVs). But they do a great job, are lovely and inexpensive! September 2012
  • (no subject)

I second the recommendation for Tanya at Smart Hair Studio. Both my curly-headed daughter and I get our hair cut by her. Tanya does a great job of shaping my daughter's hair to emphasis the curls and working quickly to accommodate a squirmy toddler. I have gone to all the high-priced curly salons and I think Tanya is a better, more intuitive curly hair stylist than any I've tried. Also, you can book an appointment online which I love. I would highly recommend. September 2012

Tanya, at Smart Hair Studio in Windsor Terrace, is not a kids' stylist, but she is reasonably priced and regularly cut both my kids' hair before we moved to California. She is the only stylist who figured out how to give my very curly hair a really wonderful cut, without the sharpness and pyramid shapes that often go with curly hair cuts. In my opinion she is better than the folks at Devachan! I would highly recommend her for both adults and kids alike! September 2012
  • March, 2012

This salon is wonderful and a great value! Tanya has been my colorist for years, and she is very talented. I used to pay over twice as much and was less satisfied. All the stylists are kind and warm. I find it very easy to get an appointment and also easy to park nearby.

Smart Hair Studio is great and very well priced. They cut my everyone in my family.
  • ISO: A GOOD children's haircut

Tanya at SMART HAIR STUDIO IN PARK SLOPE (November 2011)

Seconded! I tried Smart Hair Studio out for the first time last week (because it's more reasonably priced than Manhattan salons and it's conveniently in the neighborhood), and I'll definitely be going back. I saw Tanya, and she is incredibly attentive in making sure she understands what you're looking for--not just the style and length, but also things like what your typical care routine is going to be and how long you usually go between cuts--and offers suggestions based on that and your hair texture. She makes sure you're both on the same page before doing anything, and makes sure you're happy before letting you leave the chair. I love the cut she gave me, and although it's a low-maintenance cut (as I requested), she also gave me ideas for how to dress it up for formal events and simple little tricks to give it a kick on days I'm feeling feisty. Her business partner Angela also had a client while I was getting my hair cut. She seemed equally attentive, and the client's hair looked great afterwards, so it seems like you won't go wrong with either of these ladies. (November 2011)

I just want to sing the praises of a wonderful, fledgling salon that was started this year in the South Slope by a former stylist at Slope Suds. Tanya is a talented stylist and colorist; she's very thoughtful and careful and makes sure she knows what you want before she picks up the scissors. She uses organic/non-bleach color that fades mercifully gently, and she is reasonably priced. And she's a lovely person. But what I'm really excited about is that she now cuts my tomboy tween's hair and has her excited about going back. My daughter has graduated from the fire-engine-seat kids' salons and I think she likes feeling grown up enough to go to the same place I go to. I sound like a shill, but I promise I have no affiliation with Tanya except as a happy customer, and I'd love to see her young business thrive. (November 2011)

I have been to both Angela and Tanya--as have my children and in-laws. they are both great and my family's hair needs run the gamut from straight to curly, fine to course, and to thick to thinning. the shop is small, but very well designed. I heartily recommend them! (November 2011)

The salon is called Smart Hair Studio and it is at 282 Prospect Park West. I go to Tanya who used to be at Slope Suds and I can't recommend her highly enough. She is great with color and has completely revived my once curly, now wavy hair. She is also understanding of what it means to be a mother to a small child, so she always gives me a style that looks great, but is easy and doesn't require many visits back to maintain it. I haven't been to Angela, the co-owner. Their phone number is 347 689 0981 or you can make an appointment online at smarthairstudiony.com. (November 2011)

I heartily recommend Tanya at Smart Hair Studio on PPW bet 17th and 18th. She was at Slope suds and just opened her own salon. She cuts my hair and recently started cutting my husband's hair (which is thinning on top so he needs somebody good!). Tanya is really talented and takes a lot of time with you (she cuts my hair first wet and then dry). Her website is smarthairstudiony.com
  • (no subject)

I also think that Tanya rocks! I just had my first appointment with her and she gave me an awesome haircut, and great color.
  • (no subject)

[in response to review below] I second the vote for Tanya! She's great and spends a lot of time with each customer just to "get it right". So glad she opened up her own place.

Smart HAIR Studio just opened up on PPW between 18th and 19th. I read about Tanya from some other postings on Park Slope Parents, so at least a few of you are in the know already. Tanya and her partner Angela just opened this cute little place. Tanya used to be a stylist in another local salon. I'm really pleased with my haircut, and also with Tanya and her whole business. She and Angela have this great entrepreneurial energy that just infuses the studio. Tanya said that they called it "SMART" because she is always educating herself in the latest techniques and products. Right now she is researching organic coloring treatments. They also just seem like nice, fun people (and Tanya at least is also a mom). Tanya has different prices depending on the length of your hair--with my super-long locks the regular price is $60--a pretty great deal considering she spent 2 hours working on my head. Plus, for March and April they are doing 20% off as a promotion for their opening (they just opened 2 weeks ago, I think). Of course, I'm not affiliated--just a happy customer. And I want to keep this super-cute business in my neighborhood open! It's so nice to see a new local business instead of a chain or just a vacant storefront for months (or years).
  • (no subject)

I am also a happy customer of Tanya's - her highlights are the BEST! She does 3 different colors and the result is the most natural-looking I have ever had.....much better than the expensive Manhattan salons I have been to. This girl knows her color! Right now, her new salon is offering 20% off - through the end of April. It is an extremely good deal! Again, no affiliation to the salon, etc., just a happy customer!

Tanya Bandarchyk has opened up her own salon, called Smart Hair Studio on PPW bet. 18th and 19th streets. I have no connection to this business other than being a very grateful client who wishes to support this new, local, women owned, small business. Tanya has been styling my very curly, difficult to cut hair, as well as my children's wavy hair for a few years. She is without a doubt the most gifted stylist I have known. I have sent many friends to her, and they too agree that she is simply wonderful.
