Small Brooklyn Psychology

Description

Small Brooklyn Psychology is a group psychology practice at Industry City, and our neuropsychologists and psychologists have availability to help with therapy or assessment for any psychological problem. We can provide evidence-based individual or family therapy for children, adolescents, and adults, as well as parent management therapy (PMT) and parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT). Our assessments are comprehensive and thorough and are available for toddlers through elderly adults. Our clinicians are experts in a wide range of psychological issues, including behavior and emotion dysregulation, anxiety, OCD, tics/habits, depression, autism spectrum disorder, learning disorders, identity issues, life adjustment and relationship issues, and trauma. They come from and are familiar with helping a wide range of racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, gender, and socioeconomic cultures. Our goal is always to help provide you with useful information to help you fully understand yourself or your loved one and to provide or direct you to evidence-based treatment to address concerns. We take a warm, thoughtful, and practical approach in everything we do. Our practice does not accept insurance payments in network, but most out-of-network benefits cover our services.

We have recently started working with Cecilia Barbosa at Small Brooklyn Psychology and really love her. She's an experienced practitioner but newer to that practice, so she may still have some openings.
  • Looking for therapist for Parent Child Interaction Therapy

We worked with Small Brooklyn Psychology for PCIT with our son when he was 4 and 5. I loved the practice and found that PCIT was really transformational for us at home. We worked with Maddy Lawler in particular and she was absolutely fantastic!

I recommend Maddy Lawler with Small Brooklyn Psychology.
  • child psychologist/therapist recommendations

We loved M L with Small Brooklyn Psychology. We worked with her for about 5 months on my daughter’s (almost 4) sleep issues.
  • Need adult ADHD therapist/psychiatrist

We ended up choosing Small Brooklyn for her evaluation and they were superb. They also provide evaluations and therapy for adults. Mandi White-Ajmani is the founder I believe, and she’s lovely. I recommend you call her and explain your situation. The downside is they are not in-network. We paid out of pocket but it was totally worth it.

We love Maddy Lawler at Small Brooklyn Psychology.
  • Neuropsych evaluation recs for struggling 7 year old

Small Brooklyn did our child's neuropsych. I think some of it was covered by insurance. I found them very easy to work with and very thorough.

Our situation has markedly improved thanks to the work we've done with him, and he's really helped my husband and I get on the same page.
  • Experience with Milestones Psychology for neuropsych evaluation

If you are looking for comparison as to prices, we had a very good experience with Small Brooklyn Psychology for our son's neuropsych evaluation. They were extremely helpful with the administration side and guiding us on how to submit to our insurance company, were on time for every appointment, and were great with our son. The evaluation was thorough, they took loads of time to walk us through it at a dedicated meeting and were available for additional questions (and we had many!!) as we approached our IEP meeting. I'd highly recommend them.
  • Advice needed - emotional/behavioral therapy for 2 year old

We love Mandi White Ajmani at Small Brooklyn for stressed out kids of all ages, and quarantine is creating some very stressed out kids. She hosted a Zoom for PSP this spring, and is a parent, and empathetic and articulate and generally the real deal. Her practice has also added some specialists and therapists in the last year or two, so it’s more likely that whatever she recommends can be done there.
  • 2018 Review

We chose Dr. Mandi White-Ajmani at Small Brooklyn Psychology for our son's evaluation because we liked that the evaluation was seen as a tool in the whole process of understanding our son. It was never about giving a "bad" label, it was about recognizing that we are all individuals with strengths and weaknesses and with awareness and work/help, we can flourish. This is what we were hoping to learn. What are his strengths. Why does he struggle with writing? Why does he struggle to keep focus at certain times and not at other times? What can we do to understand where he is really strong and support improvements in areas of difficulty? How do we work with the DoE system/class teachers to get the best outcome? We had tried a lot of other options, so went into the neuropsych eval for the suggestions of more. We feel happy that the suggestions we received are all about our son individually and not generic ideas. We have a diagnosis which isn’t a big deal and really helps plan actions for us, him and the school. Those actions are some strategies for managing thinking and some support with occupational therapy and executive functioning. I see this as “ scaffolding” for his learning but very specifically tailored to him. We also now have a psychologist who really knows him and can give us advice if we have questions down the line. Our son spent 2 days with Dr White-Ajmani and her assistant and LOVED them and it opened up a great dialogue for us with him on his “personal strategies” to help with writing and focus. We have a framework we are confident about and can navigate the school system with and we believe he will do well and flourish with some help in certain areas. It's totally worth the expense and I think in some cases it’s reimbursable by health insurance. We haven’t tried to get the $ back yet and I think it’s worth it either way. In fact I wish I had this when I was a kid :) I tell my son how lucky he is to have all this great healthcare and information.
