Daycare - Fort Greene
Our daughter has been at Shining Smiles from about 4 months until now (18 months) and we've been very happy. We've liked all of the providers, especially those in the baby room. Most importantly our daughter really likes it- she is happy to go every day and at this point knows almost everyone. I would definitely recommend them.Review from the Spring 2023 Early Education Survey

We send our daughter to Shining Smiles on Fulton and Waverly and are very happy. She started there at 16 weeks- the women in the baby room are wonderful! They have a great app that keeps you informed of everything going on. Overall it has been a great experience.Recs for local 2's and 3's programs? #fortgreene #clintonhill
My two have loved Shining Smiles nearby (second kid will be graduating to pre-K in a few too-short months!). No idea about current openings but imagine they may have space in September as well. Happy to chat/share more specifics. They also just expanded their facility to include a really phenomenal indoor play space and STEM center.Review from the Spring 2022 Early Childhood Education Survey
Location: Fulton Street, Clinton Hill Type of facility: Daycare Review: We started daycare at 3 months and found the caregivers to be excellent. Great with babies, kind, everything that we would want. The only drawback is the lack of outdoor space on the premises, but they take the babies for walks when the weather is nice. What amenities does the facility have? Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything? For babies who eat solids, I would offer organic food options. They offer toddler food that is "school cafeteria" style, unhealthy stuff now. Is there anything you would like to add about how the school is handling the pandemic? There could be more hand sanitizer stations.Review from the Spring 2022 Early Childhood Education Survey
Location: Clinton Hill Type of facility: Daycare, Preschool Review: Update to prior review. We remain extremely happy with Shining Smiles, where our child has been enrolled since the summer of 2020. Our child is now in the preschool class, which is a mix of 3s and 4s. Our child has been in three other classrooms, and we have found all the teachers and caregivers to be extremely attentive and kind to the children. They go out to play in local playgrounds (weather-permitting) and have a very rich curriculum - reading a lot of stories, doing arts and crafts, music/movement time every day (with live guitar singing), and even doing science projects. In the preschool room, our child has observed the lifecycle of mealworms, released butterflies, grown beans, and learned the planets in the solar system. Communications from administration are also transparent and clear, and we have enjoyed getting to know other parents in the daycare community. What amenities does the facility have? Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything? Wish that NYC would approve Shining Smiles for 3K Is there anything you would like to add about how the school is handling the pandemic? Good compliance with mask mandates for staff and among parents, and I'm not aware of any drama over the masking or vaccine policies (whether in support or against). My child got better at wearing a mask once older but wasn't 100 percent, and they did not overly police her.Review from the Spring 2022 Early Childhood Education Survey
Location: Clinton Hill, Brooklyn Type of facility: Daycare Review: My son is in the infant room, where he is clearly loved and well cared for by the teachers. The teachers and administrative staff use the app to communicate with us about restocking supplies and to record his naps, meals, diaper changes, and to share photos and occasional videos. I love that they have a huge storage space where you can easily leave your stroller after drop-off. They offer tons of flexibility in terms of hours/days and you can take a week of vacation at reduced tuition each year. They also will work with you if you want to use cloth diapers—I don’t, but I think it is a good sign that they are willing to honor the parents’ preferences. What amenities does the facility have? Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything? I wish the classrooms had windows/natural light, and I don’t love that the kids seem to spend time each day in Bumbo chairs and the like for story time, etc., but that’s all been far outweighed by the pros for us.Struggling to get daycares near Prospect Heights to respond! Advice please!
Have you tried Shining Smiles Daycare on Fulton and Waverly? We attended from 6 months to 3 years and had a great experience. They are very responsive over emailReview from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education Survey
Type of facility: Daycare, Preschool (applying for 3K and Pre-K but not yet approved) Review: A well-organized program with communicative staff and a friendly community What amenities does the facility provide? Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals, Incredibly convenient hours, flexible , reliable and high-quality for working parents What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? We have grown to absolutely love the program - now two kids have really thrived, enjoyed being there. We especially appreciate the open atmosphere/communication of the team at Shining Smiles. Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? Solid safety protocols/remarkably rare incidents over the past year and a half, mask wearing (but not militant with new mask wearers - everyone does their best).Review from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education Survey
Type of facility: Daycare Review: We really enjoyed our time at Shining Smiles (January-August 2021). Our daughter was lovingly cared for. There are two teachers in each room and 12 kids max. Her verbal skills exploded in the time she was there - they did a lot of reading, crafts, music class, and more active time both inside and out (once the weather was warm). Each month they had a different theme for their lessons and activities. They use an app to send updates about meals, diapers, and photos. Also loved that they had stroller parking. What amenities does the facility provide? Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? They started offering meals and snacks (for a fee) right when we were getting ready to move - we would've loved to take advantage of that. Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? All teachers were masked, and parents were not allowed in the classrooms for pickup and dropoff. None of the kids were required to be masked but that did not bother us.Review from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education Survey
Type of facility: Daycare + Preschool Review: Our 2.5-year-old daughter has attended Shining Smiles since she was 5 months old and it's been a wonderful experience. All of the teachers and staff have been loving and supportive as well as professional and communicative. The space is big, bright and clean and they do all kinds of fun activities: outdoor play, circle time, science experiments, music + movement class, art projects. We have been really happy with our experience and our daughter is thriving at this magical place! What amenities does the facility provide? Provides meals Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? Shining Smiles has handled the pandemic smoothly and responsibly. They have been flexible and good communicators throughout the last two (incredibly hard) years.Review from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education Survey
Type of facility: Daycare Review: Our child started here at 7 months and has been enrolled for almost a year. We have loved all of the staff and feel fully comfortable leaving our child with them. They alert us any time something is off (diaper rash, didn’t eat lunch, etc) even if it is relatively minor which I really appreciate. The facilities are cute with are projects hung up and all of the staff are very attentive, even to kids not in their class. What amenities does the facility provide? Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? For some reason, our bibs never seem to be used and the baby comes home frequently with food/paint all over her clothes (or more often they’re in a bag and she is changed into fresh clothes). Would be great if they took more care with her clothing. This is a very minor point though - overall we are very happy. Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? All staff wear masks. They had limited the class size, but it seems they are back to normal there.Review from the 2020–2021 Daycare, Preschool, Pre-K, and K Survey
Review: Solid program, great hours, kids very happy Facility amenities: Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, new facility, good for keeping classes separate/covid protocols What would you change about the program? Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? pretty solid covid protocols though masks are encouraged but optional for 2+Review from the 2020–2021 Daycare, Preschool, Pre-K, and K Survey
Review: We've had a positive experience at Shining Smiles - our daughter is happy to see her teachers and friends every morning. They have a curriculum theme each month and do activities related to the curriculum every day (books, arts and crafts, building things, trying foods, etc). There is a music teacher that floats between the classrooms. In good weather, they take the kids to Greene Playground. Another plus is stroller parking. Only big downside we've seen (for mom and dad) is that you have to bring all meals and snacks from home. Facility amenities: What would you change about the program? Would prefer if they provided meals Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? They do temp checks at pick up and drop off for both parent and child. Only one parent is allowed inside for pick up/drop off, and all teachers are masked.Daycare recommendations
Our older son (he's 4) has been going to Shining Smiles on Fulton as after school/other random days when school is not in session. What's been really great about them is that they are super flexible week to week on the number of hours!day care recommendations?
We’re at Shining Smiles on Fulton (at Waverly). We’re preparing to return in a couple of weeks, but pre-covid they were fastidious with health monitoring, flexible, and very responsive/communicative so we feel optimistic about sending both our pre-schooler and 9 month old!2019-2020 Year Review
Shining Smiles is a solid option if you just need a daycare-brand daycare that will keep your kid safe, fed, and loved while you're at work. The teachers are genuinely kind, loving people who treat our kids like their own---they even held my one-year-old during nap every day until he learned to go to sleep on his own. The hours are great (M-F 7-6:30) and you can customize which days/hours your child will attend. They're rarely closed. In my opinion, the curriculum is way too academic for one-year-olds: they learn colors, letters, numbers, seasons, and shapes and do little art projects related to what they're learning. I'd rather they just let them climb around and chew on stuff, but I guess other parents are into it. Bottom line: my kid is safe and happy, so I am happy too. … About the facility: Has early morning hours … What would you change? Less academic curriculum for toddlers, different cleaning products for the facility---sometimes my kid comes home smelling like harsh chemicals.
