We love Dr. Seth Orlow at NYU. My son's favorite doctor. Every time I say we have to go to the doctor, he hopefully asks 'Dr. Orlow"? Dr. Glaser referred us and, to this day, it is one of the top five best things she's suggested to us ever. He does NOT take insurance, but our insurance covered a good chunk of it on out of network benefits. He was very generous with his time. I have ridiculous skin issues myself and see the Chair of the Dept at Continuum (he's a specialist in the field I need) and he agreed Dr. Orlow rocks. He did not want to do the biopsy that the other pediatric dermatologist had wanted to do. He did not keep us waiting for 3 hours until past bedtime in his waiting room like the other pediatric dermatologist did. I emailed him months later about a different issue and attached a picture of the issue we were trying to figure out - on a Saturday morning - and he emailed me back 8 minutes later. And told me exactly what to do and it was exactly the right thing. He's just amazing, worth every penny.Subject: ISO: Pediatric dermatologist
I second this recommendation and also Orlow's hard to get a sighting with and we found his second in command, whose name i forget, a woman with curly black hair who was extremely nice, was just as good. we had a really confusing rash that went on and on with one of our daughters and they were all over it until it disappeared. my feeling about the insurance and skin issues (that are truly perplexing, as in you're going to spend a ton of time and effort to get to the bottom of them) are better to put in front the eyes of an expert and suck up the money because it'll be worth it in your time and energy and insurance claims in the long run. i can't remember how much we got back, i don't think as much as the previous poster.ISO: Pediatric dermatologist
Dr. Seth Orlow at NYU is, hands down, amazing. We were referred to him by Dr. Amy Glaser, and I am SO GLAD we found him. He does not take insurance, but FWIW, we were reimbursed a healthy chunk of his bill through our out of network coverage, he saw us a second time without charging us ("why would I charge you, all I did was look.") and even responded months later to a totally different incident on a Saturday morning BY EMAIL within EIGHT minutes. That was one doctor's bill I did not mind paying - worth every penny. Oh, and my son 3 years later (now 6 years old) still asks hopefully, whenever I raise the topic of going to see a doctor, "Dr. Orlow?" Enough said. From a professional perspective, one of my dermatologists who helps me with my extreme contact dermatitis and is the Chair of Dermatology at Continuum, agreed that Dr. Orlow is excellent. This after I complained about the pediatric dermatologist in his own office where I'd first taken my son. Fantastic bedside manner and is "the" guy for dermatology issues. He does NOT take insurance, and his consultation visit was $325. Because of him, my son now says he only wants "guy doctors". Affiliated w NYU. (PSP Pediatric Survey 2010)
