Kids Birthday venue/room under $400?
Puppetworks is another great option. For $400 they put on a show, let you use their space, and can accommodate around 20 people (I think). You have to bring in the pizza and cake but they can provide you with a table and chairs etc.December Birthday Party Ideas for Kindergartener?
We love Puppetworks (& they're not too pricey as far as birthday venues around here go). We're doing that this year for our daughter's December birthday.2018 Birthday Party Review
Flexible - could add additional time and could bring outside vendors ie face painters and balloon makers2018 Birthday Party Review
The venue was fairly easy to work with, although they only accept checks sent in, which was a bit outdated. We were able to order in pizza and bring in food. The show was Pinnochio (they do the show currently in production at the time), and they explained the show, how the puppets work, and did a picture with all the kids after. It is not a very fancy venue, but the main focus was the show, and they do set up an eating area and "buffet" area. Overall, we were happy with it, and all the kids had a great time, especially the birthday girl & boy.puppetworks roundup
We had our daughter's 5th birthday party at Puppetworks in April and it was great. The only downside is that they don't really help with set up or give you much time to do it. They open the doors to you 30 minutes before the show starts so you have to set up your food etc. pretty quickly before guests start arriving (because you want the guests to arrive a bit before the show so they don't miss the show if they are late). They will have tables set up for food (2 big tables and 2 small tables for the kids to sit when they eat), but you do everything else. The puppet shows are great and the kids loved it and there was plenty of space for all the kids and the parents. They puppeteer also comes out and talks to the kids before and after the show. All in all, we had a great experience. They were also fine with me serving the adults wine, which was important to us. Happy to answer any other question you may have. (Jul 2015)puppetworks roundup
i had my daughter's 4th bday party there - it went really well. They do the show and then you serve the food. The only two things to keep in mind is that you have to bring all food + any utensils and that you need to book then in advance. it's a really popular party venue! hope this helps. We just had a party yesterday for my son's 3rd birthday at BAX. It was super fun, super easy, they were great to work with - I highly recommend it! (Jul 2015)Re: [PSP] Recommendation for Kidrockers show or other fun stuff to do this weekend
Puppetworks, on the corner of 6th Avenue at 4th Street in Park Slope, does marionette performances for children at 12:30 & 2:30 every weekend. They are currently performing Cinderella. According to their website they will have additional twice daily performances on the weekdays from February 17-21, when the public schools are closed for Presidents week. I know that many of the local and not so local pre-schools and elementary schools bring children age 3-10 to Puppetworks performances. I know many adults who enjoy the shows too. LIKES: Easy! We set up 30 minutes before, cleaned up 30 minutes after. Inexpensive (comparatively) since they do not charge per person. What you'd change: nothing. Do you recommend (High Rec, Rec, Rec w/ Reservations, Do Not Rec)? Highly RecommendReview from Birthday Party Survey, 2012
LIKES: Great entertainment at Puppetworks! Didn't have to clean up at all! Wow! Big space & can easily accomodate a bunch of kids. Appropriate for all ages. What you'd change: You do everything yourself - food, party decorations (or table cloths). Do you recommend (High Rec, Rec, Rec w/ Reservations, Do Not Rec)? Highly RecommendReview from Birthday Party Survey, 2012

Age of Child 6 Reason for Choice: of special interest to my child,, ease of planning, in my price range, conveniently located Likes: The kids had a wonderful time at the party and it was a breeze to plan. There was enough free time for the kids to hang around at the venue, the performance was wonerful and just long enough, and the abilit to bring your own food made it very easy and made the extras affordable. This is a great choice if you want to have a larger party as you can have up to 50 people, but the cost is the same for 10 as for 45 and it would be pretty pricey for a smaller party (at $400). It's nice to know you are supporting a local nonprofit institution through the party as well. Changes: I probably would not change anything. Not included in the Party Package: , invitations, food for kids, party bags, cake, Cost Per Child: $16-$20 DO you recommend? We did several parties at Puppetworks. It holds a LOT of people, and they do not charge per person! (Nov 2010)- We recently hosted a party at Puppetworks and had a great experience there. The show, "The Prince and the Magic Flute" is original, funny, and the scenery is impressive. The kids loved the show and then came to our house for the party. It's possible to rent Puppetworks for an exclusive showing, but I didn't. I just bought tickets for the people I invited. The staff there made it very easy by allowing us to pay after everyone trickled in. Tickets for groups of more than 20 are only $5 each, very inexpensive compared to other birthday party entertainment options. The current show is good for kids 4 and up. I just thought I'd share the word and support a gem of a neighborhood institution (Oct 2007)

- $375 for 2 1/2 hours total (Saturday & Sundays 3:45-6:15pm). They do the puppet show and clean up. Up to 50 people. Kids should be 3 or 4 since you have to focus on the show for a good 30-40 minutes. (Jan 2007)
