  • Review from the 2023 Summer Camp Survey

Location: Prospect Park How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 11 Review: The camp was fun, but it felt geared towards younger kids. My child made good friends but was bored. It felt the zoo could have made better use of the location, and the aftercare involved watching videos instead of, say, a seal feeding. Probably best for K-3rd grade
  • Prospect Park Zoo - Summer Camp Logistics Feedback

My son did a week of zoo camp last summer (he loved it!) and for the PreK/K group (they were combined last year) you definitely had to walk them in all the way to their classroom and sign them in. Ever since COVID the Flatbush /street entrance has been closed and the only entrance to the zoo is the one within the park too. Hope that’s helpful. I bet you could email the zoo directly too. They’re pretty responsive in my experience.
  • summer camp?

We've done camp at both Prospect Park Zoo which my son absolutely loved. A quick Q train ride to Prospect Park stop.
  • Review from the 2021 Summer Camp Survey

Name of camp: Prospect Park Zoo Camp Location: 450 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11225 How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 6 & 8 Review: My children loved everything about the camp! They camp back with stories of their animal encounters and they also liked going into spaces that they do not have access to as visitors. They both thought their counselors were great and funny! They didn't have anything negative to say. My 6 year old who takes a little while to warm up was so excited to keep going to camp! What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Based on my children's feedback, I wouldn't change anything. Would you like to add anything related to COVID and how the camp handled it? I thought the camp was quite COVID safe. They did request that all the campers get tested before camp started which I appreciated though they never checked the test results. Masks were required of all children and they spent most of their time outside.
  • 2018 Summer Camp Reviews

Summer 2018 Review: At zoo camp, every day had a different theme that they incorporated animals and conservation lessons into the activities of that day. Not only did they get to meet some of the animals and visit the different exhibits at the zoo, but they also created puppet shows and art projects each day. Several of the days they also had organized play time outside. As a parent, I liked that they uploaded photos every day to a secure site so we could see some of the activities they had done that day. In addition, they were well prepared for handling food allergies, and kept my daughter's EpiPen in a secure spot, but accessible to her at all times. The counselor to kid ratio was fantastic, and it was a small group of children in the camp - about 25 kids. My daughter loved zoo camp and is already asking to go again next summer. Age of child: 6 What would you change about the program, if anything? I only wish it was a bit closer as the walk to the zoo every morning and afternoon was long, but I'm pretty sure that can't be changed.
  • Review from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey

Super organized and run by real educators! We loved that we were given info about what the kiddos did each day as "talking points," to discuss each day. If you could change anything, what would it be? N/a! Age of child: 4.5 Based on a Summer 2017 experience
  • Summer Camp Survey 2016

Age of child: 10 Review: This was not a positive experience for my child. She was in a group for 3rd-5th graders. The week she attended there seemed to be very few kids her age in her group (she is a rising 5th grader) and she felt the programming was not very interesting or engaging. I spoke with the camp director about it. He was very nice but there was not much he could do to remedy the situation. (He would have attempted to put her in a group for 6-8th graders but there wasn't one meeting that week). There were about 30 kids in her group, so my sense is that their hands were full getting people from Point A to Point B, which I can appreciate. What would you change about the program, if anything? It is hit or miss with mixed-age specialty camps. I think staff:camper ratio and staff quality are big factors. Day camps do tend to skew young, and the older she gets the harder it becomes to find a good fit.
  • Summer Camp Survey 2016

Age of child: 6 Review: Fun activities, outdoors, learning about animals
  • Review from 2013 Summer Camp Experience

Age of Child: 5 Likes: My daughter loves the zoo and we go there often, so I chose zoo camp as her first "away from mom all day" experience. She loved the activities, counselors and other kids and had lots of stories at the end of the day about what they had done. What would you change? If I could change anything it would be to make the day a bit longer. Walking from Center Slope, I felt like by the time I had dropped my child off it was practically time to turn around and go get her again. Would you send your child(ren) again? No Do you recommend? Recommend Do you have any other information to add? Don't sign up for this camp expecting any contact with animals or a lot of action. The kids do go to look at whichever animals fit in with the day's theme, but most time is spent in the education building. There's a lot of arts and crafts or making snacks -- it's not a camp for super-active kids who'll want to run around all day.

Camp Prospect Park Zoo Prospect Park Zoo Day Care or Sleep Away-- Day Camo Program: Toddler Camp Age of Child: 3 Likes: We loved how well structured an engaging each day was - very well designed for the age group. Activities flowed very well and the camp leader was always well prepared. I would make it longer - 2 or three weeks at least. Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? Kinderzoo Location - Prospect Park How old is your child? (or the age when he/she attended camp) Age: - 4 What did you/your child like about the summer camp? This was a really well thought out camp. They learned about animals and got to meet some. They also got to do art, "cooking" and games. There was a good mix of classroom and movement time. My daughter loved it. What would you change about the program? Nothing Will you send your child back to this summer camp program next year? (Or would you if you could?) Yes Would you recommend this program to other parents for their child in the future? Highly recommend If there is any other information you want to provide, let us know here: It meets 4 days a week for 4 hours per day which was perfect for my daughter, but might be too short for older kids.
