2018 Summer Camp Reviews
Summer 2018 Review: Our almost six-year-old son spent six weeks at Poly Prep, our first experience with this camp. He loved it and wants to return next summer. This is a big camp—our son's division had more than 20 kids and there are many divisions. But there are several counselors per group, so kids get individual attention. One primary reason we chose Poly Prep was for its swimming program. Kids swim twice a day, once for instruction and once for fun. While our son was comfortable in a pool, he did not know how to swim. He ended the summer with a beginner's grasp of freestyle and had started on the butterfly kick and backstroke. The camp sends weekly recaps with a photo slideshow—which are great if they capture your kid (mine somehow eluded the camera). I wish the communication were more in depth, or the head counselor for each division gave a recap. Since our son took a bus to/from camp (through an authorized provider), I felt a little disconnected to what was going on day to day, but they did have a parent barbecue midway through the session. If you're considering Poly, make sure to sign up the morning registration opens—it fills fast and they have a waiting list. Age of child: 5 What would you change about the program, if anything? More photos in the slide show!Review from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey
This was my daughter's third year at Poly day camp and she absolutely loved it. The previous two years in the junior division, she liked it for about 2-3 weeks, but now that she's in the intermediate division, she doesn't want it to be over. (It's a six-week long camp.) She loves swimming (outdoor pool) twice a day, circus, karate, art, and the various spirit days they have. The food they serve there, she says, is really good and way better than what they serve at her public school in Park Slope! Age of child: 6.5 Based on a Summer 2017 experienceReview from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey
An absolutely fantastic program that immerses kids in all things theatrical performance. My son learned trombone, did set design and performed in a play all within the 5-week program. Poly Prep's theater is professional quality and the instruction is fun. There are breaks to swim in the pool, play tennis and explore the gorgeous school campus, too. Extra bonus for parents--the camp provides lunch! If you could change anything, what would it be? They don't have a late pickup program, so it's a massive juggling act if you have two working parents. I also wish it was longer. Five weeks goes by fast and there's no other camp my son loves as much. Age of child: 9 Based on a Summer 2017 experienceReview from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey
Love everything about the camp , door to door bus service , great lunch and snacks included , 3 heated outdoor pools and tennis If you could change anything, what would it be? Nothing , it's amazing Age of child: 5 Based on a Summer 2017 experienceReview from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey
It's amazing- activities, food, counselors- everything!!! If you could change anything, what would it be? Less night activities Age of child: 7 and 9 Based on a Summer 2017 experienceReview from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey
We had a great summer at Poly Prep! The counselors and staff were fantastic an the facilities are great (what you would see in a suburban camp). The kids swim twice a day and do activities like karate, tennis, yoga and arts and crafts. There is also the option for bus service which made it very convenient. If you could change anything, what would it be? Really not much, maybe more pictures but i am really looking for something! Age of child: 4.5 Based on a Summer 2017 experienceSummer Camp Survey 2016
Age of child: 5 Review: The camp program is extremely organized- the children transition from one activity to another seamlessly. The grounds are beautiful and have everything needed for six weeks of fun. My son loves swimming - poly prep campus has 4 pools and every camper swims two times a day. the counselors are dedicated and enthusiastic and achieve their goal in fostering a connection with each child. What would you change about the program, if anything? The kids are exhausted by end of day but as a working pArent a slightly longer day would help.Review from 2015 Summer Camp Survey
Age of Child: 7 Likes: The counselors, food, activities.... Everything What would you change? Wish it was longer than 6 weeks Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? We also sent out younger child age 5 who had the same feedbackReview from 2015 Summer Camp Survey
Age of Child: 4 Likes: Liked the exposure to different sports. What would you change? Pickup on first day was very disorganized, it was unclear where to pick up kids and there was no one person in charge. Would have liked a bit more communication via email during the week about the camp - photos etc, but it was fine. Would you send your child(ren) again? No Do you recommend? Recommend with reservationsReview from 2015 Summer Camp Survey
Age of Child: 9 Likes: My daughter had a great time -- she liked swimming twice a day, doing art projects, taking dance, learning stop-motion animation, and playing tennis. And she loved the beautiful campus. I was a little bit nervous after I signed her up; I started hearing that it was a good camp for "sporty" kids, which she is not. But she was in one of the senior groups (going into 4th grade and up) where each child gets to choose electives, and that allowed her to fill her days with the activities she wanted. My daughter also said specifically she did NOT want one of those camps with lots of field trips. She wanted to go to one location and stay there all day, and this fit the bill. I liked that was one 6-week long program for everyone -- I didn't have to move my kid around to a different location each week, and she didn't have to keep adjusting to new kids. And the bus made things convenient. What would you change? Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? My daughter has an IEP -- the camp seems very open to working with kids with different kinds of needs. The camp director is very helpful and communicative if someone has a question about whether this camp can support their child.2014 Summer Camp Review

Norhing Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? One full session all summer allows kids and staff to bond and form cohesive group experience instead of the week-by-week mash upReview from 2013 Summer Camp Experience
Program: Summer Experience Age of Child: 7 Likes: Both of my children loved camp (ages 4 and 7)...they formed great friendships and trusted and learned from counselors. Once children are entering kindergarten they swim twice every day. That is by far the best thing about this camp. They also enjoyed the activities, the campus, and the true summer camp experience. What would you change? A few more organized team sports rather than so much dodgeball and kickball. My 4 year old would have enjoyed more art even though she brought home art projects every day. Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? It is great!Review from 2013 Summer Camp Experience
Age of Child: 8 Likes: My daughter liked swimming twice a day, once being instructional. She like the sports activities, except Tennis. She like the food served for lunch (an extra cost that is worth it). What would you change? Really, nothing. Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? I went to this day camp and loved it. This is why I sent my daughter. This was her second summer and she could not have been happier.2012 Summer Camp Survey
Camp PolyPrep Bay Ridge Day Care or Sleep Away-- Day Camp Program: Summer Experience Age of Child: 6 Likes: He is a very sports-minded kid so it was perfect for him. Plus he learned to swim which makes it worth every cent! What would you change? There seemed to be a variety of sports played but according to my son (who knows how accurate his reports are) there seemed to be a lot of dodgeball, kickball and soccer. Maybe a little wider variety of sports would have been better... Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? We went in with several other families and chartered a small bus, separate from the main bus, through the same bus company. It worked out really well and definitely enhanced the camp experience for all of us. Review from 2012 Summer Camp Experience2012 Summer Camp Survey

Nothing Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? This is the second year that my son attended Poly. He loved it. Everyone is so nice and the counselors do a great job at making the kids feel special. I was fortunate enough to drop him off each day and pick him up. The counselors always shared with me how his day went. They also have two swims a day! My son absolutely lived that. The first swim is instructional and the second swim is a free swim. He also loved the camp's lunch! It's worth every penny! Review from 2012 Summer Camp Experience2012 Summer Camp Survey

Program: Summer Experience Age of Child: 5 Likes: Swimming and tennis! They swim twice a day -- my son went from being a non-swimmer to a swimmer in 6 weeks. They have tennis twice a week, which my son loved too. The counselors and staff seemed great too. What would you change? There wasn't a ton of communication from the camp/school during the year. I would have liked to hear more about how things were going. Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? My son isn't very 'sporty' (for lack of a better word), and he loved this camp!Review 2010 Summer Camps Survey
Program: Technology Camp Age of Child: 8 Likes: Loved learning to program the computers, loved the counselors. Really an easy drive from PS in the summer, easy drop-off and pick-up (counselors load and unload kids from cars at the horseshoe), parking not bad when we got back home because it was August. What would you change? he was disappointed that the pool was so shallow Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommendReview 2010 Summer Camps Survey
Program: Soccer camp (1 week) Age of Child: 5 Likes: Our son enjoyed the soccer and the pool time; we liked that it was an introduction to a new sport in the summer and was relatively reasonably price; absolutely gorgeous campus relatively close to where we live, counselors and management seemed nice What would you change? Add more formal extended day option for working parents; add email or similar confirmation of registration (we mailed in the form but didn't know if we were in until we reached out; a letter came very close to camp start and that's it), more information about what they are doing in the camp; more organized signin/out (no signout forms so could be security breach) Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Recommend Do you have any other information to add? not sure we'll do the soccer camp again but want to do other Poly Prep camps in the futureReview 2010 Summer Camps Survey
Program: Summer Experience Age of Child: 5 Likes: Getting to swim 2 x a day, playing tennis, having lots of fun with the wonderful counselors. What would you change? I wish they served these active kids fresh fruit and other quality food for snacks -- instead it's mostly sugary junk including Oreos. Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Recommend(no subject)
Poly is for sports kids. Not competitive, but all sports. (Reviewed 2/10)(no subject)
My son was 8 or 9 when he did Poly Prep. The bus was totally fine. He did New Country before that. That camp stunk. Swimming instruction was terrible. The promise of the great outdoors meant kids stuck in the corner of a park and the counselors were basically bored babysitters. (Reviewed 2/10)(no subject)
My then five year old did Poly Prep Camp last year and will be doing it again this summer. He took the bus with his nine year old sister and they both loved it. They came home every day dirty and tired from having played hard outside all day. The campus is an amazing resource and the swimming program is wonderful. With swimming instruction every day my son really learned to swim last summer. The camp has an open house in the spring if you aren't familiar with the campus. I was more comfortable having him on the bus because he had his older sister with him(no subject)
Poly Prep and New Country Day are much more hit and miss in terms of who the staff is. If your son is athletic PolyPrep is great. Academically, it was not good. That may have changed, but I really don't know. Likewise with the camp. If he likes sports, fine, otherwise, it's a boor. (Reviewed 2/10)(no subject)
2. How old is your child? (or the age when he/she attended camp) Age: - 5 3. What did you/your child like about the summer camp? Our son (and his parents) loved that he swam twice a day -- one session with instruction, the other "free swim" -- and also received tennis lessons. Based on my research, this sets the program apart from most any summer camp in the area, at least for this age group (pre-K/kindergarten). The camp is extremely well-run; the counselors and instructors are competent, professional and kind. 4. What would you change about the program? We were surprised and dismayed by the nutritionally lacking snacks. This is a program emphasizing fitness and athletics, yet the regular offerings are Oreos and Lorna Doone cookies served with sugary drinks. Also, the art projects are uninspired, by-the-numbers time-fillers. 5. Will you send your child back to this summer camp program next year? (Or would you if you could?) Yes 6. Would you recommend this program to other parents for their child in the future? Recommend 7. If there is any other information you want to provide, let us know here: We were particularly drawn to this program because of its athletic emphasis, feeling that our son could use a boost of his physical coordination, strength and confidence. The program paid off in spades: At the end of the summer, he seemed stronger, more agile and was feeling really good about his newly acquired swimming and tennis skills.
