Re: Practices inclusive to older-older expecting parents
My doc, Pete Guirguis, ticks all those boxes. He delivers at Methodist. He’s on 3rd St, between 7th and 8th Aves.Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey
What month and year was your child born? November 2022 Review: I really liked working with Dr. Pete and the midwives on his team. I had a low risk pregnancy and wanted a natural birth. They were very supportive of my wishes and birth plan. I had to advocate for myself on certain aspects (I didn't want Pitocin after birth and pushing on my side vs. my back) but my wishes were respected. At the appointments, all my questions were answered and they always took the time. There was occasionally a wait (more often in the Bay Ridge office) but I didn't mind considering the time they gave me during my appointment. They are very responsive to questions on the portal and the front desk staff (particularly at Park Slope) was always very nice. The medical assistants were also great. I really like the team and culture of this practice. To give more specifics, I was really hoping for one of the midwives to deliver my baby (4/5 chance since there were 4 midwives and 1 male OB). I got to the hospital at 4pm and Kendall one of the midwives was there but her shift ended at 7pm and Dr. Pete was there for the delivery. (I really wanted a woman delivering my baby). But it went well and Dr. Pete has a nice energy and as one of the midwives on his team described him "he's basically like a midwife." At the hospital when the pain got worse and I thought about an epidural, Dr. Pete checked me and I was 7 cm dilated. He knew I wanted to go natural and told me I would probably deliver the baby in 3 hours. But if I wanted the epidural, I could rest. He said he would come back and see what I wanted to do. He never came back (which I appreciated) since my birth plan said to not offer this unless I asked. He was readily available when we asked for his presence but gave us independence throughout the labor. Also, the hospital may be more strict with things like food or being monitored, but Dr. Pete and his team was fine with me not being consistently monitored (until the last couple of hours when the labor intensified). The RN initially told me no and the midwife came in and took the machine off me when she came to check on me.Review from the Summer 2022 Birthing Survey
What month and year was your child born? May 2022 Review: Dr. Pete is wonderful and I’m so glad he was the one present to deliver my baby who had a complicated delivery. Dr. Pete ultimately delivered my baby with forceps and helped me to avoid an emergency c-section. He was calm, patient, and answered my questions thoroughly before moving forward with each step. He respected my decisions and made me feel heard and well cared for. Unfortunately, I did have some issues with other members of the Guirguis Group staff. Overall, the team is wonderful, however communication with the office was challenging at times during my pregnancy, and the doctor on call when I went into labor was unresponsive to the labor line for 4 hours and also did not complete rounds when I was in mother/baby, which I’m told was something she was supposed to do. Still glad we were with this practice and had Dr. Pete though!Review from the Summer 2022 Birthing Survey
What month and year was your child born? July 2022 Review: Nothing but positive things to say! Throughout pregnancy, we were able to schedule convenient appointment times (often before 9am) and rarely had to wait more than a few minutes. Midwives in the office were very helpful and always eager to answer our questions. On delivery date, Dr. Guirguis kept us calm and relaxed - informing us what was going on in the hospital with L&D rooms, checking on us regularly and having a fast delivery.Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
Dr Guirguis was our OB for the first two trimesters but we ended up delivering in Florida due to Covid-19. Our baby was ultimately born at 29 weeks, one pound and seven ounces. Dr. Guirguis had told us the baby looked a little small early on in the pregnancy, but not to the extent that he was at birth. I don't know if the size problem was something that should have been caught sooner or not.Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey
Dr. Pete and the whole Guirguis OBGYN practice were awesome! I felt comfortable I was in very competent and experienced hands, and I liked their low-key, reassuring style. Based on January 2017 birth experienceReview submitted by 2016 Birth Survey
Excellent, loving practice. There aren't a lot of frills at this often-packed 3rd street office, but the staff is kind and caring, the care is generally as non-invasive as possible, and the doctors are wonderful. Peter Guirguis is a calm presence and I highly recommend him. There are several midwives with the practice as well. Member notes about insurance: The practice takes most insurances-- I've had both empire blue cross blue shield and Oxford while a patient and both were accepted. Never a problem with claims. REVIEW: We loved the Guirguis practice! I saw mostly the midwives throughout my pregnancy, but ended up seeing everyone before the birth. Dr. Pete delivered our son and he could not have been any better. INSURANCE No issues.High risk obgyn recommendations..
Dr. Peter Gurguis delivered my 2nd child last September. I was considered 'high risk' because my first child was born at 34 weeks. I really liked Dr Pete and was very happy with our experience. Good luck!High risk obgyn recommendations..
I second the practice! I was not high risk, but I loved them just the same!High risk obgyn recommendations..
I am 40 and just delivered a boy 11 weeks ago naturally at methodist with dr. Peter Guirguis. I really liked him a lot; he and his colleagues at the practice, which consists of midwives and ob's, support you in the kind of birth you want to have. of course, many things come up during pregnancy andlabor that cannot be anticipated or controlled. although I was considered high risk as well, due to having had a c section with my first, plus my age and having gestational diabetes, I was blessed with a healthy baby boy and a birthing experience that was really supported and non medicalized. I highly recommend a meeting with him or Catherine Kelly, one of the midwives, if you can to see if the practice is a good fit - they were my favorites.
