Re: ISO feedback on penguin coding
My son (6) attended three sessions of Lego Robotics and loved it! He got to be creative and the counselors/teachers gave kind and thorough feedback at the end of each session, which I haven't seen many places. He also did a trial of the Minecraft coding, which he was very excited about. The only downside I've found is that, while they offered a school pickup last year, they're not picking up from his school this year. We had to stop for the winter season because it was too hard to get him, waste an hour, drop him, waste another hour and pick him up and get home while I also had my toddler in tow. I know they do pickups at some schools, so if you can secure pickup (or live close by) I definitely recommend it!Re: ISO feedback on penguin coding
My son enjoyed Penguin for a few terms around age 6-7 (specifically Lego robotics) but then had had enough. It is a pretty formulaic program which is not necessarily a bad thing, but I would say the teachers are quite young and green, and more like camp counselors. They are following a program. Again, this is not exactly a criticism — the program was fine, my son enjoyed it — but it didn’t blow us away and a few terms was enough.Re: ISO Little kids’ coding/engineering programs
This isn’t exactly engineering, but my step-daughter went to Penguin Coding on Smith Street in Cobble Hill when she was 9 and absolutely loved it. She learned how to code/make her own video games. I think there are some programs for younger kids as well.Review from the 2024 Summer Camp Survey
Location: Park Slope REVIEW: This is my son's favorite camp. I don't love the screen time, but I think they mix in a fair number of breaks and do a trip to the park for lunch and a scienc--y activity. CHANGES: DETAILS: Age of child; 7 … Weeks attended: 4Review from the 2022 Summer Camp Survey
Location: South Slope How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 6 Review: Overall, my child had a good experience during 2 weeks of coding camp. It was great that they switched themes and learning focus each week, and included outdoor time. The counsellors were knowledgable and fun, especially Ms. Robin. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? ironically, a bit less screen time Would you like to add anything related to COVID and how the camp handled it? There seemed to be plenty of ventilation and some maskingrecommendations for coding camp/classes for 8 y.o.?

We have been using Penguin coding since September and my daughter likes the classes, of course because it’s a screen. They send a report at the end of the term. I feel the same way as you trying to limit screen time but she is learning to code using a Minecraft education version.recommendations for coding camp/classes for 8 y.o.?
My 7-year-old enjoyed the free trial class he took at Penguin Coding on 7th Avenue and 14th street. He is signed up for their Lego robotics class this month but we haven’t started yet so I can’t give a full review.
