Paper Moon Playgroup
Paper Moon is a cooperative playgroup for Pre-K aged children.
Our playgroup offers a safe and structured learning environment wherein children can engage in group play and learn concepts that will help prepare them for kindergarten and beyond. Our staff is dedicated to providing the best possible learning environment for your child and focuses on three main areas.
Shout out for Paper Moon PlaygroupI just wanted to write a quick endorsement for Paper Moon playgroup, which I feel is one of the best-kept secrets in Park Slope. I sent my daughter to Paper Moon three mornings a week for two years and it was the perfect solution for our family. As a freelancer I needed time to work without distractions, but found babysitters could be costly, unpredictable and stuck in your apartment when the weather was crummy. This program provided my daughter with the structure, socialization and instruction she needed to be ready for Pre-K this year. The teachers were so loving and helpful. They helped me potty train her and overcome her extreme separation anxiety. My daughter thrived at Paper Moon while I was able to do my freelance work uninterrupted at a fraction of the cost of hiring a sitter/nanny. I know they are accepting applications for next year and I wanted to promote this gem of a program with other parents looking for an affordable preschool/playgroup solution.
Review for Paper Moon Playschool Two's ProgramMy son completed the Paper Moon Playschool two's program in the Spring, and I cannot say enough good things! Ms. Ashley and Ms. Amy made a great team of teachers, and they are so organized. Each week had a different theme, and I noticed he was starting to recognize his letters and colors very early on. In fact, he shocked us all when, very early in the school year, he pulled out a magnet letter from a pile, and identified the "J." "It's J for Julian," he told us. We knew that was because of Paper Moon! This year, I hear Ms. Kilee is rejoining the PM family, as Ms. Amy has sadly moved out of Brooklyn. She is also a wonderful teacher, I know first hand, because my daughter attended Paper Moon 4 years ago, and had Ms. Kilee. She is warm and super professional, and a seasoned educator. If you are looking for a "warm up" to preschool for your two-year old (I think the rule is your child has to turn two by December,) consider Paper Moon. It's located right in center slope, and is close to the park, and I know they do a few field trips during the year to take advantage of that!
UMMARY: ISO 2s programs for Fall babiesPapermoon Playgroup is a very sweet and creative coop with a 2s program...and I believe they still have openings for this fall.
Review submitted via the 2014-2015 daycare/preschool surveyThis member has reviewed this facility in a prior year Length of time: Part Day, 3 days/week Child’s Age: 2-3 years3-4 years Type of facility: Private playgroup Co-op where parents assist a teacher, located in a church space (no affiliation with the church) REVIEW: The teacher, Ms. Amy, is incredible, and loved by all the kids. Her family is relocating this summer, but the former teacher of the school is returning, and will do an incredible job. Paper Moon is a small playgroup, and becomes a community. One aspect of the school that I truly appreciated was the diligence with food allergies. My daughter has allergies to peanuts & some tree nuts, and the precautions that the playgroup and the teacher took put me at ease. I only wish that they had a longer program - three hours/day was not enough! Would you recommend? Highly recommend Would you send your child again? Absolutely
2014 Daycare/Preschool PSP reviewLength of Time: 2 days/week Child's Age: 2-3 years Review: Both the director and teacher at the playgroup are very warm and friendly and clearly love each child in the program. They have provided a warm and fun atmosphere that my social and energetic daughter has loved attending. I was worried about making the potty training transition while attending the playgroup, but they made it so easy, and helped support her transition - through accidents and all. Furthermore, the community of parents is warm and laid-back, helping us to make the transition to Brooklyn; we moved from out-of-state just before the school year started. Recommend (Hi/Rec/DoNot) Highly recommend Would you send your child again? Absolutely
(no subject)Paper Moon has been a most rewarding experience for my son and our family. We recently relocated from Seattle and were sticker shocked with the cost of Pre-school. We knew our son needed a program. We knew we did not want all day care for our son and we knew we wanted to find a place that could somewhat function as his extended family as we were far from home and far from family. Paper Moon did that and more. Paper Moon is a program in which the parents help out approximately once a month in the class. It is a small group of the same kids and consistent teachers on daily basis. The half day program met his needs for cooperative play, the teachers met his needs for daily educational stimulation and the parents help out and get to know all of the children. Since it is a small group, concerns are resolved immediately, your child is known individually by the teacher and parents and your children are much more directly involved in projects and learning as it is a small group. it is a very nurturing environment. The more that we got from this program is that the children all became great friends. Since there were only 12 of them. They learned about each other and enjoyed going to see each other. So much so that over the summer there were frequent Papermoon gatherings of parents and children. Paper Moon is overall a positive place for children and families. Need I say more?
(no subject)My son attended all year 2010-11, three mornings a week. It was a great experience. The school has a community feel with a small group of kids, thoughtful teachers and curriculum, and varied activities like movement, art and music taught by folks from the neighborhood. It's completely affordable and low-key, yet the coordinator takes a lot of responsibility and runs it professionally i.e. doesn't ask parents to overburden themselves with bringing in additional food or taking on excess shifts. The church basement space is well transformed into a cheery, preschool atmosphere with tons of books, toys and art supplies. thanks. Let me know if you need anything further. I assume you don't post names and I don't wish my name to be used. best, Becky
(no subject)I want to recommend our daughter's cooperative Pre-K, Paper Moon. I think the best thing I can say about it is that Paper Moon is Maddy's first school, and the experience has been nothing but a joy for her. I see school anxiety all around, especially this time of year. But the warm and creative playspace, and the great kids, make it such a comfortable place that Maddy is eager for every schoolday. We've done walking trips to the firehouse and the Botanic Gardens, and had a pizza-making lesson at Pizza Plus. There is outdoor as well as indoor fun for the kids, as there is a yard adjacent to the school's space. Maddy loves her Paper Moon friends.
(no subject)My son went to Paper Moon last year and is returning this year. Paper Moon is a wonderful little school and community. The program is a perfect balance between play and structured learning with attention not only to the academics the kids will need in Kindergarten but also life skills such as pouring their own water at snack time, manners and sharing. My little guy learned yoga, songs, instruments, art, acting, letters and storytelling last year. The cooperative nature (parents assist once or twice a month) means every teacher and parent knows your child as an individual and from the moment you walk through the door the environment is familiar, welcoming and warm. We can’t wait for this year to begin. (Review Date 9/2011)
(no subject)My husband and I are really happy with sending our daughter to Paper Moon for her first year of preschool. Paper Moon offers a loving, trusting and enjoyable environment for our daughter to become acquainted with the idea of school. We loved the idea of a half day and we really enjoyed being a part of her learning on the day we assisted. The small group of kids was ideal for what we had in mind for her preschool year. Our daughter was always looking forward to school each day and always had a smile on her face when we picked her up. We are looking forward to her pre-K year being with Paper Moon! The teachers are fun and energetic and definitely have a love for teaching! (Review Date 9/2011)
