Review from the 2023 Summer Camp Survey
Location: Packer Collegiate Institute How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 4 Review: My 4 year old had fun but I don't think we will send her back. There was very little communication with parents about what happened at camp - no pictures or weekly emails. It also did not seem suited for the littlest kids - my child was 4 years old, and during the first week of drop-offs, they wouldn't let parents escort the kids upstairs if they arrived past 8:30. I understood if we were really late, but one day we arrived at 8:33 am and they wouldn't let me take her up even when my child burst into tears. Someone else must have had a similar problem and complained because then the rest of the summer they didn't enforce this policy as strictly. It seemed strange and draconian for a summer camp to be this strict about drop offs with four year olds. As for activities, what my child liked most was a lot of pretend play, Lego robotics, Disney trivia, water play, and getting ice cream with her counselors. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? More communication about what happened at camp each day. I also wish I had known in advance that aftercare would include Xbox time - it's not something I wanted for my 4 year old. It just wasn't a great fit for our family.Review from the 2022 Summer Camp Survey
Location: Brooklyn Heights How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 4 Review: Camp was very well organized. Packer knows what they’re doing! Communication with families was superb. Schedules were shared in advance. For preK kids the ratio of campers to counselors was an impressive 2.5:1. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? daily swim is a major draw for this program. But our child who ordinarily loves swim was NOT a fan of the pool. First it was frigid — indoor unheated pool at St Francis College. Some of his bunk mates would dry because they didn’t want to go in. Second it seems there was little or no “free swim”. Maybe he was telling it to me wrong but the camp should share with families what swim is all about and strategies for the kids not to hate it! :) Would you like to add anything related to COVID and how the camp handled it? Handled it well. All masked inside. Daily app to check symptoms.
