Review: We are full time remote with PS 130, there are tons of activity options on Google Classroom for us to do but no pressure to complete them. We have a daily 30 minute small group synchronous lesson and there are 2 story times per week that children can also attend virtually. We LOVE PS130, we love our teachers, our PTA, our support staff, etc etc etc. Amenities offered: Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals, I'm not sure about all these options in pandemic life, but all exist during regular times What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? not a thing

We were at PS130 the year the current pre-k head teacher arrived. She is so, so good, and it was a smooth transition for our kid, who was moving from a preschool class of eight kids to a classroom of eighteen kids. We didn’t stay at 130, but mostly just because we got a lottery place at another d15 school that my own kindergarten teacher had recommended :) We gained a lot in that move, but we would also have gained a lot staying—it was magical to be at a place that was so local. The kids we saw at school were the same kids at the playground and library across the street, and at the deli and the bus stop. It really felt like a small, walkable world. 130 is unusually widely & intersectionally diverse: linguistic, economic, racial, religious. We were among the only monolingual families in the class, and the other families included both financially secure professionals making regular intercontinental trips to see family and recent immigrants from most of the inhabited continents.

Not as warm and cuddly as our previous private nursery school but I've been very impressed with how much more my daughter is learning, how well her teacher incorporates "fun" into every activity and how active the PTA is. Overall glad we made the switch. … About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Provides meals … What would you change? Would love a weekly email of what they are learning and how to follow-up at home.

My son loves his class and his teachers. One of the reasons we chose this school was for location (next to our subway) and it only has 72 Pre-K students that are split between 4 classes. It's a good size and felt that helped our son while he transitioned into school. That being said, if we had to do it over again we would chose PS 280. … About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Provides meals … What would you change? We have been a little disappointed with the lack of information that we receive from the teacher. I'm signed up as class parent and have been able to squeeze out a little bit more into, but find that to be the main complaint. I've also heard similar from other parents in the other classes.
  • Experience with PS 130

My child started kindergarten at 130 this year. We really like it. Be sure to look at 130’s specific site, not the DOE website. Most schools have their own separate from the DOE. https://ps130brooklyn.com/ In my experience, 130 has many after school options. Only some are on site, but a plethora pick up from 130 and transfer kids to their site. We’d only ever heard positive things about 130, from both parents and educators alike. Perhaps you’re aware, but there are many healthier measurements of schools than GreatSchools.org.

  • Advice on upk

On a side note in the neighborhood of PS130 Kings Bay Y Windsor Terrace/JCC has a great 3 years old and UPK program. Both programs are playbased learning. My daughter has been there 2 years.
