  • Review from the Spring 2023 Early Education Survey

Review: Our son loved his Pre-K year at P.S. 119. The school has two classes per grade (Pre-K-5th grade) which is a really nice size. The school staff knows all of the kids by name and seems really caring. [Our son] had a great teacher for Pre-K. She was in regular communication per email and sent pictures regularly. She was prompt to contact us with any issues. The Pre-K classes had weekly music classes, art classes, etc. And the curriculum seemed really thorough while still being individualized and play-based. The parent association is also strong and organized events throughout the year (movie night, arts, etc.) [Our son] really loved it and is continuing there for Kindergarten. Amenities: Has outdoor space, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Although the school has a standing partnership with an afterschool program, it only starts for Kindergarten. I'd extend it to Pre-K (school ends at 2:30 pm). The second thing I'd change is to improve the onboarding for new families. It was a bit of a black box between getting an offer and school actually starting and getting added to the school wide email list. I wished they had a way to loop new parents in earlier.
