PS11 for Pre K and beyond?
My daughter is in 2nd grade at PS 11 and has been there since PreK. We generally have been very happy with the school. The highlights are the great community, all of the extras (gardening, swim in 2nd grade!, dance), the really fabulous administration (so important in a NY public school), and the diversity. There is homework starting in Kindergarten (although it’s not required in K) and I don’t love the emphasis on HW, but my daughter seems relatively unphased by it and the pros definitely outweigh the cons.Review from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education Survey
Type of facility: Pre-K Review: My child loves the program, despite some transition growing pains. They are excited and engaged, and come home talking about all of their new classmates, teachers, and learnings, and we are enjoying becoming a part of this wonderful new community. We are so lucky to be at PS11! What amenities does the facility provide? Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Facilities could use some repair (several things are in-process and the administration seems to be doing their best). Despite proactive communication, the transition into NYC public school is...well, a lot. Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? So far, its been relatively smooth and thankfully uneventful for us in Pre-K. Profuse communication from the school, with clear protocols and lots of opportunities to ask questions. After-school pick-up was a bit rough for the first week or two, but they seem to have worked things out.
