  • Looking for rec's for an OBGYN for a twin pregnancy

I had my twins with NYU's obstetrics practice. They have a maternal fetal medicine practice as well so can handle everything. I went to Downtown Women OBGYN for my first pregnancies, but they similarly do not handle high risk pregnancies so referred me to NYU. Downtown women delivers at NYU so I was familiar with their labor and delivery department and happy to have my twins there.

What month and year was your child born? October Review: NYU is a huge practice with 16 or more OBs. They are very data driven. They pushed hard for me to induce, but could not given me a concrete reason, they couldn’t say how high the outside risks were if I waited to go into labor on my own, just there was a non-zero risk of stillbirth. The OB who did my C-section was the same OB who I had met once before. In that appointment she stopped me while I was asking questions about birth and said she only had time for one more question. I asked if I should use the portal to follow up. She said that was a misuse of the portal and that I needed to ask questions during my appointments (like the one I was in with her at the time). So I asked if that meant I needed to wait another month until my next appointment to ask my questions and she said yes. After days of my failed induction, shift change happened and the OB I had been working with left. This doctor who had so rudely cut me off was the one who cut me open.

What month and year was your child born? October 2022 Review: NYU doesn't let you pick a specific OB - it's a very large practice so you have to be OK with not knowing 100% who your doctor will be. I got comfortable with that because the general support at NYU is so strong and I knew I would need a planned c-section for this baby. As it turns out, I was able to get my preferred doctor but that's definitely a thing if you go with this practice.

What month and year was your child born? October 2022 Review: They're pretty good and fairly efficient, but impersonal. I almost never saw the same provider.

What month and year was your child born? November 2022 Review: Loved my experience here. All of the doctors are fantastic, they take pride in running things on time, go out of their way to group appointments and make scheduling as easy as possible. Staff is top notch and incredibly professional. Highly recommend.

What month and year was your child born? July 2022 Review: Dr. Gratch delivered our daughter and then critically, spent the next 4 hours managing my major post-partum hemorrhage including a trip to the operating room and a blood transfusion. It was extremely scary but she was kind, reassuring and calm throughout. She even came in on her day off the next day to check on us (I think it was a pretty notable event in the hospital, we also got a visit from the anesthesiologist!). I also saw almost every doctor at the NYU practice on 53rd Street in Manhattan and overall everyone I saw was kind and professional.
  • MFM and regular OBGYN? Advice Needed

Because I was considered high risk I bounced between the NYU MFM office and the NYU OB/Gyn Faculty Practice and was happy with both. It’s a bit of a hike to get there but their offices are well run. Both of my kids were born at NYU and both of my labors and deliveries went smoothly and I was well taken care of by everyone who worked there.
  • Review from the Summer 2022 Birthing Survey

What month and year was your child born? April 2022 Review: I chose to see NYU Langone's group practice from the assumption that it'd be easier going, since I wanted to deliver at NYU Langone. I saw a variety of doctors (you have basically no control over who you see, and even if you book with a specific doctor, your appointment can be changed at their will). I'll summarize everyone with whom I had a memorable interaction: Dr. Gratch: She ultimately delivered my daughter. No-nonsense, practical, caring, and experienced, I would recommend her. She knows her stuff and walked the fine line between exerting her professional expertise and listening to my preferences. For instance, I wanted to be allowed to push for longer, and she allowed it. When it came time for an emergency c-section, she got it done as humanely as possible, and afterward followed up with what prevented vaginal delivery in my case, which was helpful to know. I had hoped to see her for aftercare, but that wasn't possible. I met her the day I was delivered and never saw her again. Dr. Rosenberg: Very experienced, level-headed and caring. I would highly recommend her. I found her to be comforting in her thorough exams (one of only two doctors who measured my fundal height, for instance). One of the only doctors not to start an appointment with "Any questions?" Dr. Aquino: Friendly and professional. Dr. Ruggiero: Took the time to answer my questions about delivery and induction. Dr. Myrick: Similar experience to Dr. Rosenberg, warmer bedside manner than most at the practice. Dr. Jeffers: Tougher experience connecting with Dr. Jeffers, who was on call for my induction. I will say that her businesslike manner in the hospital was more appreciated than in the office. Dr. Behar: Nonchalant in manner, but thorough.

All doctors were helpful and friendly, spent time addressing questions or needs. Always felt heard and never rushed.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

I rotated amongst the doctors in this practice and liked some more than others, but always felt like I was in capable hands, listened to and respected. The office runs well oiled (I never waited more than 15 mins for an appointment), but doesn’t rush you, and the front desk personnel is fantastic both in person and over phone. I had a few complications (an unsuccessful version for breech positioning, resulting in an emergency c-section when baby arrived before my scheduled C, and post-partum, a terrible bout of mastitis) and couldn’t be happier with the level of care I received. I would happily return if/when baby #2 is on the way.
  • OBGYN for C-section

To add another practice to the list-- My regular ob/gyn isn't a practicing ob, so I went to a group located in the NYU hospital called NYU Langone Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates. My c-section was not planned so I can't speak to the gentle version, but the website says that they do them. They have 7 doctors and rotate you through all or most of them so that they are all familiar with you and vice versa. The doctor who delivered Luca, who I really liked, appears to have moved to Ohio. I also liked Jennifer Aquino and she is still there.
  • 2019 Birth Survey

Several doctors in the practice, offices at NYU Langone Hospital, liked all the drs and staff
  • OBGYN Recommendations?

We had a good experience with the doctors at NYU Langone. Dr Talib was our doctor but they rotate and Dr Ruggiero delivered our daughter in October. She was excellent. I hospital experience post partum was not the best to be honest (small shared rooms with long waitlist to pay for a private room) but otherwise excellent.
  • Review submitted via the Park Slope Parents 2017 Birth Survey

There are 9 members of the NYU team, and I think I met only 7 of them. However, I liked them all. They were actually all very different, and some were more in tune with my pregnancy and birthing expectations than others, but all were very nice and took the time to listen to my questions and concerns. I ended up with a doctor I hadn't met for delivery, and he was great (Dr. Schweizer). Based on a August 2017 birthing experience.
  • Review submitted by 2016 Birth Survey

The doctors here are all well qualified, but care/approach/bedside manner varies drastically depending on who you see--there are, I believe, nine doctors with this group, and you can't control who delivers you. Dr. Chamchani, Dr. Lau, and Dr. Conroy were, of the doctors I saw, the most personable and the least rushed, and I always felt taken care of when I saw them. If I could have chosen one of them for all of my care, I would have been very happy. But I didn't love how rushed some of the other doctors were. And, in general, this practice is so busy that the reception desk is incredibly frustrating to deal with. With baby number two, I will choose a smaller practice (and probably a midwifery). Member notes about insurance: They do take insurance. I have not had any issues with filing claims. Based on a February 2016 birthing experience
