  • Re: Best ER & Urgent Care

my 2yo was just in the hospital with an RSV case that required supportive oxygen. It was a terrifying experience but we got great care at NYU Langone in Sunset Park (2nd Ave and 55th St). The staff is amazing: they were kind and they were on top of all my daughter’s needs. Also the pediatric ER is in its own corner behind locked doors so it is insulated from the chaos of the rest of the ER.

What month and year was your child born? 8/2022 Review: Great hospital. Good food, felt very safe. However, was monitored by the point where I couldn’t see my child. Anything you advise people to do (or not do) at this hospital/birthing center? Anything pandemic related that could be helpful to them? Be very firm about birth plan. Also don’t go too early, they won’t admit

What month and year was your child born? December 2022 Review: NYU was wonderful, the nursing staff was amazing. My two negative comments are that they have a photography team come around and I was in such a daze that I didn't get a chance to say no thank you and my husband wasn't in the room at that time. I felt like I got swindled a bit. One of the LCs who came in was absolutely awful and rude but aside from that I had a generally positive experience with the hospital. Anything you advise people to do (or not do) at this hospital/birthing center? Anything pandemic related that could be helpful to them? I brought a number of $10 gift cards to Starbucks to give nurses at the of their shifts because they were all incredible

What month and year was your child born? April 2023 Review: Great nurses, all private rooms (we even had a room with a view!), no one was in a rush to kick us out Anything you advise people to do (or not do) at this hospital/birthing center? Anything pandemic related that could be helpful to them? Again, they have a great, progressive birth preferences form, but no one proactively reviews it with you (at least they didn't with me, had a planned C-section). All I got was the clear drape. Asked for immediate skin to skin and delayed procedures (whatever they could) and it sadly didn't happen. Some of this is probably just the reality of c-sections.

What month and year was your child born? 5/23 Review: We had a great room with an amazing view of the bay for the birth. Again, I felt like all my questions were answered and I was constantly well looked after. Anything you advise people to do (or not do) at this hospital/birthing center? Anything pandemic related that could be helpful to them? I brought a big go bag with a whole bunch of stuff like pads and other post partum supplies based on other peoples recommendations and it was totally unnecessary- NYU provided everything. I would recommend bringing a laptop and an extra long charging cord for your phone- I was there for 36 hours before my daughter was born and another 36 afterwards so there was a lot of down time. With the exhaustion and the epidural reading wasn’t in the cards so we watched a bunch of movies.

What month and year was your child born? January 2023 Review: I was really happy with my care at Langone. The L&D nurses were amazing! As of April 2022, everyone is guaranteed a private postpartum room - was very glad about that! Anything you advise people to do (or not do) at this hospital/birthing center? Anything pandemic related that could be helpful to them? When I delivered (Jan 2023), the policy was that you could only have 2 support people during labor and that they had to be the same 2 people throughout, but in reality, the nurses were fine to have people switching out.

What month and year was your child born? October Review: Great facilities and nurses. Only negative I had was the lactation consultant who I did not find helpful. Anything you advise people to do (or not do) at this hospital/birthing center? Anything pandemic related that could be helpful to them? Have other lc lined up! You can get an epidural in triage which was a game changer if you go into labor during a busy time. They are very doula friendly.

What month and year was your child born? November 2022 Review: NYU Langone OB/GYN brags about being an all-female practice so I was quite surprised to find out that a male doctor would be delivering my baby! Apparently the NYU doctors you see at your visits are managing the whole floor at the hospital during their shift and that is not necessarily who will deliver your baby. I felt misled by that. But, that's my only complaint. Everyone, literally every single professional or staff person we interacted with, was incredibly patient, kind, and professional. I felt at all times that I was in great hands. Anything you advise people to do (or not do) at this hospital/birthing center? Anything pandemic related that could be helpful to them? Watch the hospital introduction video before you go in -- with your support person -- it will relieve a lot of stress upon arrival! We knew exactly where to park, what the entrance would look like, even which elevator to take all before we came. Such a great resource.

What month and year was your child born? September 2022 Review: New and clean facilities and post partum rooms. All of the nurses were friendly and attentive. NICU staff was wonderful and wete supportive during my 2 weeks of visits- there was always a nurse or doctor available to share info, and the mychart portal was a great resource for updates.

What month and year was your child born? July 2022 Review: The nurses at NYU Langone are just so, so wonderful. I cannot say enough kind things about them. NYU Langone recently switched to private rooms which was great, and the food was surprisingly good and you can order what you want! Also hot tip Via Carota delivers to the hospital so we had some very nice treat yo'self cacio e pepe one day. Anything you advise people to do (or not do) at this hospital/birthing center? Anything pandemic related that could be helpful to them? When our daughter was born, they were testing birthing people but not partners for COVID but rates were low and they weren't very strict about me wearing a mask.

What month and year was your child born? December 2022 Review: We chose NYU because family members had received such great care there, specifically at the ICU. It may have been because we delivered the week before Christmas, but L&D was not a great experience for us, and my experience with the nursing and anesthesia teams was negative. Thankfully our doula was an amazing advocate, and we ended up being able to deliver without complications, but the care we received was disappointing. We were in an old room for postpartum recovery, which did not have a shower or anywhere beyond a chair for my husband to sleep on, so I would not recommend it for postpartum if you have other options. We also were not able to see a lactation consultant until 24 hours after the birth, which made breastfeeding more difficult. In the end, we asked to be discharged a day early. Anything you advise people to do (or not do) at this hospital/birthing center? Anything pandemic related that could be helpful to them? Ask for a lactation consultant immediately, and keep asking!

What month and year was your child born? January 2022 Review: The hospital was a nice place to deliver. I don’t know if it was luck or if they are just very efficient, but I didn’t see another patient the entire time I was there. It made for a very relaxed, personalized experience because the nurses were able to give me their undivided attention from triage all the way until I was discharged. We requested a private room and we’re willing to pay for it, but they must have known that they weren’t going to be busy because they put us in a double room, but we didn’t have to share and it was covered by insurance. Anything you advise people to do (or not do) at this hospital/birthing center? Anything pandemic related that could be helpful to them? I delivered in January, and my room was very warm, so maybe bring a fan. I would also suggest packing some snacks. I wasn’t transferred to my room until after the hospital dinner time, so my husband had to go to a nearby bodega to get us dinner. They have a 24 hour cafe onsite, but it is cash only, and we weren’t prepared with cash. As far as pandemic restrictions, they were strict about the number of visitors and where they were allowed (no labor support people in triage, for example), but I didn’t wear a mask during labor and afterwards, and no one said anything about it.

What month and year was your child born? April 2022 Review: It was not a good experience. The hospital is old so the rooms are dark. The nursing staff in triage and the overnight delivery nurses were awful. They barely checked on me and it took 3 hours for them to get me an epidural after I asked. There was no communication. I was fully dilated at 4 am and they didn’t tell me I had to wait for the doctor to come in at 6 am to begin labor. When my husband asked how much longer until we’d begin they openly mocked him. Just really rude and unprofessional.
