  • IVF in 40s, donor eggs etc

I went to NYU after trying a bunch of more natural routes like acupuncture. When I realized the science was not on my side I wanted to be practical. I was in my early 40s and after a few rounds of IUI, the next step would have been IVF, but I knew that would probably not yield any healthy eggs that were not already exhausted from bouncing around my ovaries for 40-some years. So before Dr. Fino could even ask me if I would like to go to the next step in the process (IVF) I jumped ahead and said I think we should go straight to donor eggs. She seemed happy I was already on board with what was most likely the only thing that was going to work, and was so supportive of my decision. I think every woman wants to feel like there is a part of her DNA inside her child, but I knew time was against me and didn’t want to waste more for a sentimental/emotional reason. All of this takes so so much time. And eggs aren’t all you need, it’s HEALTHY younger eggs you need. I recommend NYU Fertility Center (https://www.fertilityny.org/about-us/elizabeth-fino-md/) and was happy to have their team guide me thru this process. Dr. Fino was great and I see myself in my child all the time. Expressions, manners, sense of humor, etc. There are great kids books that talk about all sorts of ways babies are made and born. The Dr. nurses, etc are very professional and have great resources. I will let you know up front that there is a bit of a business feel to it. I think they are trained to not get emotionally involved with patients, as this is all so personal and sensitive. At first I was taken back, then I realized that this was probably better for everyone.
