  • Free/sliding scale dentist

When I needed low cost dental work (this was a while ago so my experience isn’t fresh), I was very pleased with the NYU dental clinic. Dental students do the work under a professor’s supervision. It was much less expensive than any other option; it felt safe. https://dental.nyu.edu/patientcare.html#services
  • No dental insurance & Need root canal and new crown

I'm just going to add the NYU dental school recommendation. It’s still not always cheap, but they do a good job. When I needed a dental implant 10+ years ago, I asked my cousin, who was then currently at Harvard dental school to ask her professors for a recommendation, since I didn’t have insurance and I knew I wanted to get good work done. The name I got was one of the professors who over sees the training of the students at NYU. It ended up that another professor did the implant, but since they are also a learning facility they have the latest tech too. (I’d never had a 3D x-ray before. So they could asses where the nerve was going through my jaw). Any way long story short; I still have my dental implant/crown and the few dentists I’ve seen since have commented on how good the work was and how long it’s lasted (some shoddy ones have to be redone and don’t last even 10 years).

Please consider NYU dental school. They serve NY residents and it’s part of their training. When I was in grad school I had mine done there. These are done by specialists, students that are already dentists, but continue their training as oral surgeons, root canal specialists, etc. It was a very good root canal and it’s still strong and has been serving me well for 25 years. I have not gone there since, but if I had no insurance I would definitely consider it.
  • Anyone use NYU Dental Faculty Practice?

My mother is using the dental implant service they have-- she's just getting started now. She said she had to wait a year and a half to get her work done-- there's a lot of going back over and over, in her case. So you might want to check what the process is before you sign on.
