A bit dated but huge private labor & delivery rooms with good views. Anything you advise people to do (or not do) at this hospital/birthing center? 2 people were allowed in L&D and recovery room

Great experience. Everyone was professional and did a great job.

Super clean, organized professional. I felt safe being there 100%

I delivered my second child at Columbia. On the whole it was a good experience, but not without hiccups. I went in around 9am, 10 days overdue, with the expectation that I would be induced. My husband and I ended up waiting in triage for 10 hours while we waited to be admitted. It was frustrating that I was only allowed one support person in triage, so I had to choose between my husband and my doula. One upside of the long wait is that I could eat without restrictions, and I ended up going into labor naturally from waiting for so long! I got admitted to a room around 5pm, where my doula joined us. As a second time mom, folks basically let me do what I wanted. Even though I had prepared a birth plan, no one had reviewed it in advance, but also no one had any problem with my requests. The anesthesiologist resident at first wasn't listening to me when I said I was not planning on an epidural, but didn't come back after I signed the waiver and explained that I had already given birth once without medication. The labor and delivery nurses were FANTASTIC. I had the most beautiful downtown view of Manhattan while laboring, which I actually appreciated - it gave me something to focus on during contractions. After my son was born, he was put directly on my chest for about an hour to nurse. They took initial measurements in the room, but when we were transferred to recovery, he went to the nursery for tests. I sent my husband with him since I was not ready for him to be without one of us yet. The nurses in recovery were solid, but not as amazing as those in labor and delivery. Both lactation consultants were out while I was there, which was frustrating. Most importantly, I got a private room for *Free* and stayed for two nights. The food was not good but lots of restaurants in the neighborhood deliver to the hospital!

Although it’s a distance from park slope (w. 168th street), had all around excellent experiences at Columbia. All the staff, nurses especially, were incredible. Facilities were nice.

The delivery rooms were very nice and the nurses great - the recovery rooms were small and the nurses clearly overtaxed

I had a fantastic labor at NYP Columbia and the nurse who assisted me was hugely helpful and supportive. Based on January 2017 birth experience

I had an ok experience. Maybe because I gave birth over a holiday, they were packed and there weren't enough labor & delivery rooms or anesthesiologists on duty. I also didn't love their night nurse, but I think this is a common complaint. Most of the recovery rooms are singles -- no sharing -- which is a huge plus. Doctors were all great. We had a great experience! Coming from Park Slope we were nervous about going uptown that far. It was totally fine. Our birthing room was huge and had beautiful views of the Hudson. There was a pull out couch for my partner to sleep on. The nurses at the delivery were attentive and warm. I had a long pushing phase and they were there with me along with the doctors. Afterward, we had a private room that was small but fine and also space for my partner to sleep over. We heard everyone gets a private room from our doctor though best to confirm that part. The nurses in the post delivery part were not as good as the labor/delivery nurses but they were fine too. I wouldn't rely on them for the best breastfeeding support but I found the use of a lactation consultant afterward to be the most helpful. Highly recommend getting photos from the photographer - they come out beautifully. The lactation consultant there only came by for 5 minutes so that was annoying but not a huge deal. Mostly we were impressed with the actual delivery and how great the doctors and nurses were and would recommend the hospital to anyone. Based on May 2016 birthing experience

Review: All of the delivery and labor nurses were amazing! I gave birth on Christmas Day and felt that I received the same level of care as I would of any other day. The pediatrician said and my doctor were also fantastic. I had a great experience. Also Columbia has mostly private rooms which is a plus. Even the orderlys and cleaning staff were super nice. The food and surrounding neighborhood sucks. I would recommend bringing food/snacks. Recommend? Highly recommend Insurance: Yes they take my insurance and did all of my paperwork Based on a December birth.

Member Review: I delivered here because of the NICU. We had complications after my first child was born (at St. Luke's Roosevelt -- would not recommend that hospital) and had to transfer him to NYC-Columbia where they saved his life. We didn't need the NICU this time, but it provided us with great comfort to deliver at this great hospital. It is a teaching hospital, so be ready for an entire troupe to enter your delivery room when it's time to push. It wasn't a relaxing delivery, but it was a healthy and quick delivery. Labor & delivery rooms are very nice. Post-partum rooms are fine, but not great. Get a private room if you can, as the shared rooms are very small (smaller than St. Luke's Roosevelt for example). The private room is only +$250/night compared with +$900 at St. Luke's. Do you recommend? Highly recommend Insurance details: Independence Blue Cross accepted, no issues with claims.
