Lab question
We had to have a blood draw at about 11 months, and heard mixed reviews from various places: we tried LabCorp in Park Slope, but they were out of supplies for a baby blood draw. Luckily, we landed on NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital (515 6th St, Brooklyn, NY 11215) across from the main hospital. They were great as they are very experienced with drawing blood from a baby. It;s difficult to go through, but we felt they were very comfortable drawing blood from a baby and got it right away, no misses.2 year blood test recos?
We've had successful experiences at Quest, both on Atlantic and13th Street, as well as at Methodist. Even when the tech was unable to get a draw, they were always kind.2 year blood test recos?
To offer another perspective on Methodist.. we tried drawing blood there this am and I found them to have no particular expertise with kids, in terms of knowing how to make them comfortable. Just approached it as they would an adult. My 2-year-old lost it before we were able to even get her sweater off and we had to abort the mission for now.2 year blood test recos?
I second the methodist blood lab. We had a similar experience there when we had to get blood drawn at 18m. They are experts at pediatric blood drawing. It was the first time blood work was fast and didn’t involve a meltdown. They know how to seat baby on parent so they are held down but feel safe and secure.2 year blood test recos?
My daughter had to get A LOT of blood drawn for food allergy testing in May. We went to Methodist Blood Lab (718-780-3657) - you can call for the hours. It is drop in and there was a wait (an hour?), but they seemed very expert at pediatric blood drawing. She didn't even cry until the very end, and not that much, and I think they drew 10 vials. It healed up right away, no weird bruising like with botched blood draws. It is in the lobby of one of the hospital buildings, so that's a consideration.2 year blood test recos?
I’ve had better experiences going to Methodist with my newborn, though it’s walk in only, which means a wait.Blood work for an infant
Hi! We have take both of my kids at young ages to Methodist after getting the recommendation from someone on this page and they have been great! Everyone is trained to work on children (at other places you have to call to make sure you are going at the time when their is a nurse trained for children) I will say they don’t take appointments. So not sure what their Covid protocol is now and if maybe they are taking appointment, so I would call to check.Where to take toddler for bloodwork
Methodist. The small lab in the Rite Aid building. They are very good.lab work
I agree about the blood lab at Methodist. We also had to take [my son] there at about 3 weeks to get additional blood testing and while it was crazy traumatic for me, they were super calm and quick and understanding when I cried! :)lab work
[My son] has regular bloodwork due to a blood disorder he has, and we use the blood lab at Methodist- it;s small but they are really experienced with kids and have been taking good care of him since 3 weeks old! We even did one draw during COVID and they were really all over it.lab work
Hi there. We went to Methodist’s blood draw lab (pre-Covid) and they were fantastic with our then 8 month old. In general I’ve heard good things about them. Good luck, it was more painful for me than my daughter.Peds blood draw lab
We went to Methodist with Lielle (almost 3) last Friday. The small lab in the Rite Aid/Barnes and Noble building. I didn't even mention anything to her until we sat down. When we sat down in the chair, I just said we're doing a quick blood check, it's going to be a small prick and that's it. She was very interested the whole time, but didn't cry or say anything. The phlebotomist was very quick and very good. I've always used this lab with all three kids.Pediatric Phlebotomists THANK YOU
To everyone who reached out, thank you so much for doing so. We got really great responses about both Methodist’s lab and Quest on 13th Street. We wound up at Methodist and they were great! I’m not sure if the woman was a pediatric phlebotomist per say, but she was great with my son and he was a champ! We walked in at 9:45 and were out 10 minutes later. It was a really good experience.Pediatric Phlebotomist
My 8 month old had blood drawn at Methodist without a problem. Granted he is not 3.... i would suggest getting there early when they first open (7am); it will be less crowded, no one will be rushing and just will be a more pleasant experience.Pediatric phlebotomist?
We went with our infant, not toddler, but they were great with him. We went right as it opened and didn't have much of a wait. Try to call in advance with the codes you need, or have your allergist's office do that. Our doctor wrote the order based on Quest codes, and they weren't 1:1 with the Methodist system. Our allergist said a phone call can usually resolve it.Pediatric phlebotomist?
We took our infant to Methodist for a blood draw when she was a few weeks old and they were terrific with her.Pediatric phlebotomist?
We had the same experience at Methodist- they were great with little ones.Pediatric phlebotomist?
We actually had pretty good experiences with the lab at Methodist.good lab for baby blood draw?
Methodist hospital has done an amazing job with my son since he was three days old. See if your doctor can send it to the phlebotomy unit there to be taken care of.[Fall2015Babies] Blood draw for toddler
We had one at Methodist and they were so awesome with our daughter. Didn’t expect that at all. Just in the lab on the first floor next to Rite Aid.Blood draw recommendation
We had a similar experience at that LabCorp location for the one year draw. For the 2 year draw, I confimed with my insurance that we had other options, and we took my son to the NY Methodist lab instead. At the time, they had relocated the lab to a temporary location outside of the hospital, so check with them about the location now. We were able to drop in on a Saturday morning, the wait was totally manageable with a two year old, and the tech was extremely gentle and effective and fast. We chose Methodist because of the glowing reviews on PSP for good child blood draw experiences.Re: 24 Month Blood Draw
That aside, we went to Methodist when my son was a year, it is inside the hospital (enter on semi circle drive on 6th between 7th and 8th Aves). The tech was fast and it went about as well as I think possible.Re: 24 Month Blood Draw
We had the 12-month draw at Methodist. I don't have contact info, but I think it's just their general lab. We walked in with no appointment and just asked reception where to go (it's on the ground floor somewhere). I also walked in once after a Labcorp scheduling fail while I was pregnant. They were friendly, accommodating, and professional both times. They accepted my oxford insurance. A word to the wise, if your child is squirmy, let one of the nurses hold her. I couldn't manage my daughter well enough, so after an inadequate draw they had to stick her again with a more seasoned person keeping her still. The phlebotomist said the two jabs were still preferable to the finger prick, which is apparently more painful than you'd think.24 Month Blood Draw
I've found them to be really skilled with kids' blood draws at Methodist. They aren't necessarily touchy-feely types (though not unfriendly either) but once they see you they do it quickly. There is almost always a wait, so I'd go early. I forget what time they open (maybe 8 or 9am?) but from the hospital web site it looks like their number is: 718 780-3634 If you go in through the main entrance they will tell you where it is- maybe the 2nd floor. It was nice to have 2 adults the first time because we had to sit with them at computer and give insurance info.Re: Rec for a lab that draws blood for 11month old
I took my daughter to Methodist too. The technician was very quick. For the 12 month's blood work, my daughter cried but only for a minute. As soon as I gave her her bottle, she forgot about what happened. For 24 months, it was so fast, she didn't even know what happened. And yes, we didn't wait very long either.Re: Rec for a lab that draws blood for 11month old
I can only recommend Methodist Hospital. I have brought my daughter there 2x and both times I had great experience, once for her 12mon and once for her 18mon. I didn't have to wait long at all either. Hope this was helpful(no subject)
My 12 month old and I just went Friday to Methodist (outpatient lab near main entrance). Sent there b/c we see a pediatrician at Park Slope Pediatrics, so he is affiliated with Methodist - not sure if they see anyone the same way an independent lab would or if your ped needs to be affiliated? Worth a call maybe. But in any case, the person who drew my son's blood, Marie, was fast and efficient. Needless to say he wasn't happy but it was over fast and I couldn't have asked for better. (They also open at 7:30 AM and when we went about 8:30 there was a minimal wait.)(no subject)
The lab at NY Methodist Hospital is pretty good. We take our son there (he's 7) and have been going for a few years.(no subject)
We've had my daughter's two blood draws (at age 9 months and then again at 2 years) at Methodist- I'd go early in the day if possible since I think they get busy. She screamed her head off though it wasn't related to their technique (first time as soon as they put the tourniquet on her arm, second time was when we walked into the room!). The technicians were good and fast and got the "stick" right away. The Purity Diner is a fun distraction for after:)
