  • Advice on prioritizing experience vs. proximity for pregnancy care

I delivered both of my babies at home, which I know is not for everyone, but it definitely solved the problem of proximity (and my amazing midwife, Miriam Schwarzschild, did all of my appointments at my apartment!).
  • Midwives offering home births

I highly recommend Miriam Schwartzchild, who is based in Brooklyn, though I am not sure if she speaks Spanish. She was simply amazing though my pregnancy and birth and after. She was warm and supportive and gave me such confidence.
  • Review from the 2021 Birthing Experience Survey

I have had two babies with Miriam as my midwife and could not possibly recommend her more highly. She has decades of experience, so she really knows and has seen it all. I trust her completely, and had two terrific birth experiences with her. My last birth was incredibly fast, and Miriam’s composure and quick thinking were totally essential. I could go on and on for pages about all the ways that I think she is amazing.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Miriam is incredible. She has seen it all and knows her stuff about everything pertaining to birth and strikes the perfect balance between giving advice and honoring her client’s wishes. I’ve had two babies with Miriam. Both pregnancies had tricky aspects to manage. During my first pregnancy with her, I had Lyme disease with a high fever and then wound up going 17 days past my due date. I felt confident that Miriam was keeping baby and me safe and ultimately had a wonderful birth. My second baby with Miriam also went 16 days late, and we ultimately decided to induce with castor oil. That birth too was a wonderful experience and Miriam managed a very fast labor so deftly. Her demeanor and the deep knowledge she has about birth both make her an excellent midwife. I’m so grateful to have gotten to work with her.
  • [ANONYMOUS] Home birth midwife recommendations?

I used my first midwife's midwife for my third birth. Her name is Miriam Schwarzschild. I could not recommend her more highly. There is actually a documentary available on iTunes about her if you want to see her in action. It's called Miriam: Home Delivery. I had a mysterious illness during my pregnancy that had me bedridden and lasted for 2 weeks. I feel really good about the way that Miriam supported me through that and ultimately recommended a treatment of antibiotics that solved the issue. Additionally my son was 17 days late, and I felt that her non-alarmist, informed, rational approach to dealing with that was so incredibly helpful. During my actual labor she was incredible. It was an amazing birth experience. Furthermore, Miriam's experience is pretty mind blowing and so comforting. She has been practicing for something like 30 years and has attended maybe between a thousand and two thousand births. She's seen it all. I love her.
  • Review submitted via 2015 Birth Survey

REVIEW: Working with Miriam was the most incredible medical experience I've ever had. The combination of her personal attention with her extensive medical knowledge was truly amazing. I felt cared for, supported, and, when necessary, challenged in just the right ways. INSURANCE Was a dream; not a single issue or hitch. Based on a April 2015 birth
