  • What's the deal with Apple Picking this year? Any family friendly places that follow good covid protocols/social distancing?

Hi – we usually go to Masker Orchards. Haven’t been there yet this year, they are unfortunately eliminating the pony rides, etc but the place is huge, you pretty much drive from place to place so even when it was crowded there was plenty of space. But it does sound like they are limiting the number of cars to prevent overcrowding. They haven’t changed their apple policy – you get bags for free when you pull in and every bag you use is $31.95 whether full to brimming or 5 apples, which I think is very fair. Plus all the sampling you want. When you leave you stay in your car at the payment booth and they do everything that way – no standing in line. They also sell really great apple cider in the line and I think they are also selling pies there now as their store is closed for now (I believe online is open).

We went to Masker Orchards yesterday. I would suggest going early in the day (we arrived at 10am) because it started getting busier around noon. At 10am though, it wasn't too busy and there were plenty of apples available, though some of their varieties looked like they were already picked over. Check their website to see which varieties are ripe for picking. Being able to drive around to the trees was a definite plus for social distancing and logistics (bags of apples are HEAVY to carry around!) and on the weekends you are able to buy cider and donuts from your car as you check out which made the process nicely streamlined and easy.

We went to Masker Orchards (1.5+ hr drive from Park Slope) in Warwick, NY two weekends ago. Granted it was early in the season, but it was pretty empty, and mask compliance was decent. It was nice because you could literally drive right up to the trees in order to pick, and picnic in the orchard. Most of their family activities were closed due to covid, but you could order online from their farm store for donuts etc and pick up on your way out.
  • Apple picking by car

There are many places in Warwick, NY that we’ve visited and enjoyed!
