Looking for a Pediatric Opthamologist
We love Dr. Steele who did surgery on my daughter when she was 16 months. He no longer takes insurance so we see Dr. Nam at his practice, who is very good too.Looking for a Pediatric Opthamologist
We also had an amazing experience with Pediatric Ophthalmic Consultants, but with Dr. Mark Steele. Even if you have to go into TriBeCa, it is very much worth it.Pediatric Ophthalmologist & Orthopedic recommendations
When we started looking for an Ophthalmologist for our son Dr. Mark Steele was on top of everyone's list (our pediatrician, our optometrist, even our grandfather who lives down in Brighton got the same recommendation from his eye doctor). He is in Tribeca, and uses nyu Langone for surgeries. He's expensive and doesn't take insurance, but he's great and we trust him (tomorrow he's doing our son's surgery for strabismus).rec for pediatric ophthalmologist
I highly recommend Dr. Steele https://www.pedseye.com/our-doctors/mark-a-steele/ who did eye muscle surgery on my daughter around 15 months. For insurance reasons, we are switching to Dr. Nam (at the same practice) who I've also heard is excellent.2018 Review
We love Dr Steele at Pediatric Ophthalmic Consultants. Our son has seen him since he was 18 months old, and we've had great results from his very pragmatic approach. He also has an amazing manner with kids. Good luck!2018 Review
I take my son to Dr. Steele. He has been seeing him since he was 18 months old and is fantastic with kids. My son also has an astigmatism, which was discovered during one of his check-ups. At first he waited and then at the next apt 6 months later, he gave him glasses. He was 3 1/2. He is now 5. His astigmatism has gotten better, but he still needs the glasses. He says the glasses are needed for a medical reasons (the astigmatism).ISO pediatric ophthalmologist
As an ophthalmologist's daughter and a parent, I DO NOT recommend James Deutsch for children. I highly second Mark Steele or Dr Lustig in the same practice. Only pediatrics, lovely with kids.ISO pediatric ophthalmologist
Dr. Mark Steele was wonderful great bedside manner and efficient practice. He has multiple office locations we went to Tribeca which was very close to the subway.Summary of recs for pediatric ophthalmologists

Try Dr. Mark Steele (and his colleague Dr. Hall)-- they run an excellent and well-respected pediatric ophthalmology practice in Manhattan.Re: Pediatric opthamologist - Have you heard of these people?
Dr. Campolatarro is the eye doctor for both of my kids. And I've been to Dr. Steele's office (saw Emily Ceisler) for second opinions for both kids. My take is that Steele's is the fancy office where you don't have to wait long because they don't take insurance. Campolatarro's office is fine, but it's more hectic because he takes all kinds of insurance. (I've found wait times to vary a great deal - sometimes it hasn't been that long. But if they dilate, that adds time no matter what.) Given that I think both are excellent, going with the one who took insurance was a no-brainer. (I do think Campolatarro is more talented at really getting the infants and toddlers to do the eye tests - he's got gimmicks that are both very effective, and for me, amusing!) I think that Dr. Campolatarro has been SPOT ON in the diagnosis/prognosis with both of my kids. Dr. Ceisler had a different take on the prognosis for both of my kids. For various reasons, it's not to say that she was wrong, but ultimately, I went/will be going back to Dr. Camplolatarro to say, yes, you were right (regarding wandering eye, which becomes easier and easier to see if the condition worsens). At the outset, I did my research on these doctors, and happened to have access to several very good sources of information. Campolatarro and Steele came up repeatedly as being two of the best in the city.Re: Pediatric opthamologist
We saw Marc Steele recently and found him great. I really felt we were in the best possible hands. Only problem is that he doesn't take our insurance. Feel free to email me directly if you have any questions.Recommendations for pediatric opthalmologist
We took our then 14 month son to see Dr. Mark Steele and found him to be very professional, thorough and knowledgeable. He has a very busy practice and the wait was a bit long but worth it. He was referred by our pediatrician. We saw him in the Boro Park office. Hope this helps.(no subject)
I can second Dr. Mark Steele. September 2012(no subject)
Mark Steele has a great reputation, though I think doesn't take insurance. September 2012(no subject)
We've been extremely happy with Dr. Mark Steele in the same practice: very thorough, professional, and non-alarmist. September 2012(no subject)
Dr. Steele is kind, knowledgeable, patient, and doesn't rush into unnecessary procedures. Our son has strabismus, and Dr. Steele said that even though surgery for this is practically routine, let's wait and see if it self-corrects. Sure enough it did, and we were able to avoid having the surgery. But what really impressed me was on our first visit: our son was on the floor of his office looking at a subway map. Dr. Steele came in, actually got down on the floor with our son, and started asking him questions about the various subway routes. It immediately put our son at ease. Also, his office has people who can look after your child when he or she is done, making it possible to consult with Dr. Steele without your child being present. Honestly, if he treated adults, I'd see him in a New York minute! (PSP Doctor Survey, 2010)(no subject)
OH MY GOODNESS - my kid LOVED Dr. Steele from the second she stepped into the waiting room, where "Finding Nemo" was playing. There are even video games for older kids in the waiting room! Beyond that, Dr. Steele's office is efficiently run. When we met with him, he kept my shy daughter actively engaged as he examined her eyes. She loved the experience, and talks (and does pretend play episodes) about visiting him. She remembers how he showed her a "puppet show" (puppets held down at the end of the hall while he examined her eyes). She ended up needing surgery, and while that was a terrifying experience, his expertise made it a good experience - she was completely cured of her lazy eyes. (PSP Doctor Survey, 2010)(no subject)
Okay bedside manner but was a good physician which is what I cared about. (PSP Doctor Survey 2010)(no subject)
I would strongly recommend Dr. Steele over Dr. Campolattaro. My daughter had an odd bump under her eyebrow that our ped thought was nothing major, but he wanted a second opinion. We went to Dr. C first, and he also said he was sure it was nothing, but then recommended an MRI (which would have required general anasthetic at her age) "just in case." I was really uncomfortable with the thought of anathesia on an infant, and went to Dr. Steele for a second opinion. Not only did I find him to be much more pleasant, and his office staff were much much nicer (Dr. C's staff were rude on the phone and in person) but he said that an MRI was totally unnecessary. The bump has totally gone on away on its own. I would definitely not go to Dr. C again, and would highly recommend Dr. Steele. (Jan 2011)(no subject)
we started seeing Dr. Steele - who now no longer takes our insurance either, but he is so amazing we have stuck with him. Truly in a class by himself. (January 2011).(no subject)
We love, love, love Dr. Steele. Our daughter was first diagnosed with strabismus by Dr. Campolattaro, who I thought was fine at first but at her follow-up he proved enamored of unnecessary procedures: an MRI ("just because we can, though I am absolutely sure nothing is wrong" -- this to make sure that her fairly common condition was not the result of a brain tumor), patching, and possibly surgery if he wasn't happy with how quickly she was progressing with glasses. I'm so grateful that we then consulted Dr. Steele for a second opinion. He told us that our daughter was not a good candidate for patching, definitely did not need an MRI (which would have required general anesthesia at her age), and would outgrow her glasses after a series of adjustments to the lenses within a couple of years. He is thorough, professional, and has a great sense of humor/manner with kids. He takes his time with you and is very laid back but clearly has a great command of his field. I trust him completely.
