Description

I am a general pediatrician with 20 years experience, with expertise and additional training in behavioral and mental health. After offering outpatient psychiatric care to children of all ages as a part of my general pediatrics work, I recently established my own private practice dedicated specifically to behavioral and mental health in order to deliver this care with the thoroughness and attention that it deserves. Please note that I am NOT a therapist, and do not conduct therapy sessions. Also, please note that I no longer offer general pediatric care.

During the initial visit, I perform a comprehensive evaluation of each child which addresses their physical health, development, emotional health, school experience, lifestyle, family dynamics, psychosocial factors, history of trauma, medical and psychiatric family history. My suggested treatment is individually tailored. It may include a referral for additional testing (for example, a Neuropsychological or a Neurological evaluation), a detailed lifestyle/sleep and daily routine modification plan, supplements, medication prescription and management, and a referral to an appropriate type of therapy indicated for the child's particular needs.

I see children and adolescents up to the age of 21 years of age at two locations: 26 Court Street, Brooklyn NY 11201 and 75 Maiden Lane, New York NY 10038. I also offer virtual visits. If you would like to schedule a visit, please visit ritaaronovmd.com and press the GET STARTED button. • Need child psychologist/practice for eval for 3-year-old

For a physician who specializes in behavioral health: Dr. Rita Aronov, https://www.ritaaronovmd.com/services. There aren't enough superlatives to describe her. My child was so at ease with Dr. Aronov. She is resourceful, non-judgmental, and simply amazing. A really good human and makes parents feel seen/heard/respected in facing these kinds of challenges.
  • Therapist for 5-year-old

I would sincerely recommend connecting with Dr. Rita Aronov, who for many years practiced as a pediatrician (with a cult following) in Brooklyn Heights and is now focused entirely on behavioral health. As a pediatrician turned therapist she takes a holistic approach to understanding what supports and interventions would benefit a child, and how to support the entire family. She is truly magical with children -- and is also wonderful in working with parents to identify the right approaches at home. I truly can't say enough good things about Dr. Aronov and how she's helped my family.
  • Pediatrician?

We’ve liked Dr. Aronov so far. I’ve also heard good things about Drs Gilgoff and Messinger there. (September 2019)
  • Pediatrician recommendation in Brooklyn Heights/DUMBO area?

I second the Dr. Aranov recommendation. We signed up with her sort of by accident. We were a little late to the game and didn't reach out to any pediatricians until 2 weeks out, and the doctor who had been recommended to us wasn't in the office when we needed to go for [my child's] 5 day checkup or whatever it was. We went to Dr. Aranov instead, part of the same practice at mount sinai Brooklyn heights, and she was great so we stayed with her. She pays attention to details, gives clear instructions if you need to do something different, is super responsive and helpful but doesn't waste time, and is super sweet and smiley with [my child]. She is everything we were hoping for in a pediatrician. (December 2019)
  • Pediatrician recommendation in Brooklyn Heights/DUMBO area?

I've had great experiences with Dr. Aranov at Mt. Sinai Cadman Plaza. I switched there from Tribeca Park Slope, where I felt like my child was just a number and it felt like a factory. Dr. Aranov has always engaged my child well, spent as much time as we needed, was cautious, but not overly so, kind, caring and very capable. (December 2019)
  • ISO Uber-kind dentists/doctors, etc

I can second Dr Aronov. We recently had our then barely 12 week old having a fever that ended up in hospital and two surgeries. She followed up with us and the doctors daily and stayed informed. She and her colleague Dr Messenger helped me cope emotionally when i called the pager for callback. The practice is very professional too with real doctor feeling setup, different than the one I went to fist with my first baby, which was decrepit! (August 2019)
  • ISO Uber-kind dentists/doctors, etc

Dr. Aranov at Mt. Sinai Cadman Plaza has been really kind, and her nurses who give the injections too. My kid frequently asks to go see her. I have never felt dismissed or not listened to, and I switched from a practice (Tribeca) where I did feel that way. (August 2019)
  • Pediatricians in Park Slope

I have been very happy with Dr Aronov at the Mount Sinai Doctors group at 300 Cadman Plaza West. I realize it’s not quite in the slope. But I’ve had a few emergencies and serious situations and they have a great after hours on call as well as weekend hours. Her colleague/partner Dr Messenger is great as well. I don’t think it matters if you give birth in a different hospital system.
  • Re: advice on pediatrician Dr. Aronov

Dr. Aronov is wonderful. She's gentle and reassuring, she isn't alarmist, but when something is wrong she acts quickly and aggressively. We've never had a bad experience with her. We have generally been able to see her same day for sick visits. They are making an effort to ensure you can get in. If she's not there, the other doctors are good too. Regular appointments are not that hard to get with a little lead time (except Saturdays. Those are impossible.) Wait times are not too bad generally. We really like the convenience of having the lab and X-rays in the practice as well. Makes things much easier. There's always someone on call after hours for questions. The one way I do think they could improve would be a better system of getting questions answered during the day - but to be fair, she is seeing patients and you can go in if you need to see her. Vaccines-we went on the regular schedule. She's obviously supportive of that. I don't know if the practice supports any alternate schedule. Feeding-not sure what exactly you mean. She's very supportive of breastfeeding (she's a lactation consultant) and watched me feed my first during some of the early visits to evaluate how it was going. She's not anti formula, though. Like every topic, she's practical and non alarmist. Sleep-she suggested a gentle technique to help our first self soothe (she actually gave us a great book) but if we hadn't wanted to do it I don't think she would have cared or been judgmental. Again, she's really about what works for the family as long as the child is safe and healthy.
