Review from the Spring 2024 Early Education Survey
Review: Both of our Children attended Luz’s family daycare from the age of 5months - 2 years old and we feel beyond lucky to have gotten to have our children in their care for these precious young years. The daycare is run by Luz and her Sister Angelica who both have become like family to us with our own overseas. We love the small scale of the daycare and the personal care that our children received while there. Luz has a wonderful way with the children and both our boys always loved going to daycare. They’ve formed sweet friendships while there and so have we in the fellow parents. We also loved that Luz takes the kids to the park or playground for some fresh air & play every day with it being nearby. Lastly, with the sisters being of Mexican origin an extra plus for us was also, that our children were exposed to Spanish while there & both of their first word was in Spanish! :) Truly can’t say enough good things about Luz’s family daycare! Amenities: Has early morning hours What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Nothing - we love it as is.How to find small family/in-home daycares?
I highly recommend Luz' Family Daycare - it's on 8th Avenue between 12th and 13th Street, close to PS107. It might be a bit further than you want to go. All my three kids went there. We started off when we lived a block away, but with the second and third we came all the way across the park twice a day because we loved Luz and her sister Angelica so much. I would contact her. We made her this website a few years ago, and there are more reviews on Park Slope Parents (https://luzfamilydaycare.wordpress.com/).Review from the Spring 2023 Early Education Survey
Review: Luz Family Daycare is a very small in-home daycare run by sisters Luz and Angelica, hosting usually only 3-4 children, ranging from babies to about 3 or 4 years old. Our son started last summer at about 7 months old, and is now one of the "older" kids at almost 20 months. We love the constant attention, daily visits to Prospect Park, the combination of English and Spanish used daily, and the absolutely love shown by both caregivers. Our son loves going and comes home with new words and interests every day. They were super flexible with his changing schedule and some dietary restrictions, and we felt very well taken care of when figuring things out with both. We actually take a subway about 15-20 minutes there each day, and after a year with them, we actually passed up a chance to join a program that had an opening in our neighborhood because we love Luz's center so much. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? For us, the commute (and 4th floor walkup) are the only negatives.Daycare Spot and/or School Pick-ups Shoutout: Luz Morales Family Daycare
If anyone is looking for a loving Spanish/Bilingual daycare, I wanted to give a shout-out to our beloved Luz Family Daycare. Located on 12th st & 8th Ave, Luz and her sister Angelica, run an in-home family daycare that fosters a very caring, fun, and safe environment. Our babe has loved going to Luz & Angelica every day since he was 1 and enjoys the daily park adventures and friends he has made there along the way. He also speaks so much Spanish and English now, which blows our minds when he comes home knowing words we didn’t teach him. Sending your little one to Luz feels like sending your child to the caregiver of your dreams or an extended family member you actually feel comfortable with: not overbearing yet very observant and attuned. Luz also helped us feel so comfortable with sending our babe to daycare during the pandemic as well as navigating new territories of toddlerhood, a wide gamut to say the least. Just know that your babe will be in the best hands with Luz and Angelica.Recommending Luz Family Daycare
The wonderful Luz Family Daycare on 8th Avenue and 12th Street in Park Slope has spots opening up for babies, one-, two- or three-year-olds (full time or part-time). We now have our third child at Luz' and could not have been happier with her and her sister Angelica over all those years. Our 10-months-old baby started at Luz' this year in June and we have felt very safe there despite COVID-19. There is only a very small number of kids and Luz is very, very responsible and careful, as are the other families. The socialization has been great for S., and we have been able to get more work done without feeling unsafe or guilty. You can find detailed reviews and Luz' contact details on her website: www.luzfamilydaycare.wordpress.com http://www.luzfamilydaycare.wordpress.com/ Luz Family Daycare www.luzfamilydaycare.wordpress.com A family run daycare in Park Slope -- No affiliation, just a very satisfied customer. I previously submitted a review on the Park Slope Parents website, so this should comply with the recommendation policy --Daycare Recommendations in South Slope for September
We had our younger kid at Luz's Daycare on 8 Ave between 12th and 13th which was wonderful for their first years.Feedback on Bumblebees R Us Daycare on 8th Ave? OR other daycares in vicinity
There is a really great home-based daycare on 8th Ave/12th Street. Both my kids went there. Luz is just wonderful.Review from the 2017/2018 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
Our daughter started at Luz's when she was just 4.5 months old and we could not imagine a more loving, family-oriented place for her to be spending her weekdays. This is a small home-based daycare and it truly feels like we are dropping our daughter off at a family member's apartment every morning. Luz and Angelica have taken the time to get to know our daughter so well. She absolutely lights up when we drop her off and is always happy when we pick her up in the evenings. During the day, they go to the park, libraries or on walks and in the afternoon, the kids spend time reading and playing with the wonderful collection of toys that Luz has assembled. This is an absolutely lovely place--we could not recommend it enough!Review from the 2017/2018 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
Our son has been with Luz and Angelica for about six months, and we are very happy with his care. We were previously at a larger, more institutional daycare, and the transition to a smaller family day care model has been lovely. There currently are only four kids, so there is tons of personal attention. They go outside almost every day, and in many ways it feels more like a nanny share than a daycare. Luz and Angelica are loving and responsive, and as a bonus they speak Spanish to the kids, so our almost two-year-old now knows almost as many Spanish words as English. Our son walks in happily and begins playing in the mornings, and usually doesn't even bother to say goodbye to me (a feat, since he can be quite clingy). We highly recommend the program.Luz Family Daycare Review
Luz and Angelica have been caring for my daughter since she was 4 months old. It is such a relief to find a daycare where my mind is completely at ease – they have my full trust. They provide such a warm and nurturing environment. It’s just Luz and Angelica as the two consistent caregivers (who are sisters and mothers themselves) for up to 6 kids – creating the intimacy to care for each child as an individual and for the children to form strong relationships to each other. Each day they take the kids to play outside in Prospect Park – in the grass or at the playground – and they also take advantage of music and children’s programs around the neighborhood (i.e., at the Brooklyn Library or the Park). Plus, they are bilingual and I encourage them to speak Spanish with my daughter – what an amazing opportunity for her to learn another “first” language from native speakers! My daughter gets excited each morning when she’s dropped off – I know she loves Luz and all her friends there. You would be very lucky to snag a spot in this center.Review from the 2016/2017 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
Location: 1205 8th Avenue Type: Daycare About the facility: Has early morning hours Review: Luz is wonderful! This home-based daycare is intimate, nurturing, and sweet. Luz is great with kids of all ages -- loving and firm, both in perfect balance. My kids have been very happy there... it always felt like I was bringing them to a family member's home. Luz was instrumental in potty-training, scheduling, napping, feeding, socialization, and more. The kids go outside every day. Really great!Daycare review
We went to see Luz’ daycare when we were pregnant with our first daughter – having heard a friend and colleague talk about her for years before we even had children of our own. Both our daughters have been at Luz’ daycare since they were five months old and we think it is the ideal place for babies and toddlers, if what you are looking for is a warm, loving, social but personal environment. The relationship Luz and Angelica have with the children is just natural and beautiful – no fancy philosophy. The children play, go outdoors, do crafts, read books, eat and sleep – and are cuddled – whenever they need to. Luz has always been respectful of our parenting and we have learnt a lot from her. Luz has become so much a part of our lives that she watched our first daughter when her little sister was born, and, even though we have moved away from Park Slope, we cross the Park every day to drop the little one off at Luz.
