ISO: haircut for toddler scared of haircuts
My son was this way when he was 2-3. Even now at 4, he barely tolerates it. We went to Lulu’s. I don’t know if it could have been better but he had a movie to watch and I basically had to hold his head with both hands to get anything done. Lots of tears. The lady cutting was nice, patient and tried all tricks in her book but nothing worked. It wasn’t too pretty but it got hair out of his eyes and was mostly even…. It wasn’t fun. But we only had to go through two bad haircuts until he became better with promise of ice cream (had to upgrade from a lollipop!)Toddler haircut?
We love Lana at Lulu’s!Toddler haircut?
We've been going to Lulu's Cuts and Toys and it's been a great experience. They have cartoons for the kids to watch to distract them (including my daughter's absolute favorite Daniel Tiger) and they do it quickly and efficiently. And then the kids get a balloon at the end!Toddler haircut?
We like Lulu’s on 5th avenue in Park Slope.Where did you get your toddler's first haircut?
We love Lulu's. They have toddler cuts down to a science and are also a longtime neighborhood toy shop with excellent inventory (and always great recs for toys for age groups). The toy factor really helps us get our son to the haircut portion also, especially after a very long hiatus.Baby’s first haircut
We go to LuLu’s. Not outdoors, but they have great COVID protocols. You need to book an appointment, but they have good availability.Children's Hair Salon for Curly Hair?
I second Lulu's! My daughter has short curly hair and they did a good job with it.Children's Hair Salon for Curly Hair?
My almost 3 year old son has wavy/ loose curls, and he's already had about 3 haircuts at Lulu's Cuts and Toys in Park Slope. They've always done a great job with keeping a little bit long so he gets to keep the curls - and I'm pretty sure they're layering it a little bit (because as a curly-haired mama myself, layers are the key!)Baby’s first haircut

We’ve also had good experiences with haircuts at Lulu’s (with both Margaret and Luliana) for our son. We’ve had disappointing experiences in the retail store but have returned for cuts and just don’t make any purchases.Haircuts?
Another one for Lulus! We just got our 2 yo his first haircut there. He screamed bloody murder the whole time but Luliana was super patient, didn’t rush it and his hair looks great :)Haircuts?
We went to Lulu’s as well. Margaret was great and my daughter’s hair is so cute! But it’s a toy store and I forgot that she doesn’t understand the concept of a toy store (like it’s not all for her!) so that was stressful. And the owner was keeping an eye on us and telling us not to touch stuff, so that wasn’t fun. If you go there, I would go right before the appt and leave immediately after. And make an appt for earlier before they can get backed up.Haircuts?
We have been to Lulus in North Park Slope three times now and have had great experiences. My son basically requires wrestling to cut his hair, but they are super patient and experienced and somehow it comes out even every time. For first haircuts they save a lock of hair and give you a little certificate to save, too.Pediatric Dentists & Kids Hairdressers
We had a not so great experience at Lulu’s with the stylist not keeping the mask over her nose even though I’d asked her to please do so.Toddler haircut
We also go to Lulu's. My son had his first haircut there - was very afraid and loud. They were exceedingly understanding . . . and now that our son is 5, he loves going there and sees it as a treat.Toddler haircut
I second Lulu’s. You book a haircut appointment online, they are excellent with covid precautions. Specialized in cutting kids hair. But you can also book an appointment to have your hair cut, as well as your kid’s.Toddler haircut
I haven't been since pandemic so I don't know what precautions they take, but Lulu's on 5th ave at Dean was a kids haircut place with videos to watch and fun train seats to sit in. It's also a toy store. It's a great first place to try.Toddler haircut
Lulu’s for sure! Just across Flatbush on Bergen and 5th Everyone there is lovely and they have toys too. They’re not outside but they limit the number of people in the store and you could probably make a before or after hours appt.Shout Out to Lulus on 5th Toy Store for Holiday Shopping
I wanted to take a minute to second Kelly's shout out to Lulu's - even if you're looking to ship gifts. We just ordered all of my California nieces and nephews holiday gifts from Lulu's website, and it could not have been easier. $15 flat rate shipping, which seemed like a small price to pay to shop Brooklyn not Bezos (though I recognize that many have had their budgets affected by the pandemic and are watching every penny this holiday season). I even accidentally ordered two of one item, and I called the owner this morning and she fixed it and could not have been nicer. I was really impressed with her selection, including lots of New York-y stuff (we ended up with an NYC puzzle, scratch art book, and Lego street sweeper, all of which I thought was really cool!).Shout Out to Lulus on 5th Toy Store for Holiday Shopping
I want to give a shot out (I have no affiliation) to Lulu's on 5th Toy Store, they are offering early morning and evening shopping appointments. We went this morning and it was a wonderful experience! It is limited to only 2 couples (4 people) and it was so nice to take our time walking around the store and talking with the owner to get gift ideas. They are also offering holiday wish lists on their website which will be great for grandparents, etc. The owner stressed how she is trying her best to make it as easy/convenient for her customers to shop local vs. buying on Amazon.Shout out to Lulu’s Cuts and Toys
I’m probably the last person to realize this. But I just discovered that Lulu’s delivers toys (and not just in Park Slope but to other areas of BK.) After a week of rain and in the absence of classes, indoor play dates, etc, I realized I needed a stash of new toys to keep my 19 mo old from going nuts. I was so surprised to find out Lulu’s would deliver and has an amazing selection of toys. If anyone else finds themselves in that situation, this is a great local non-Amazon option.Haircut for toddler
Lulu's on 5th avenue is great! Our kids go there for their haircuts, they have a car as a seat and take their safety precautions very seriously (only 1 kid and 1 parent in the store).Haircuts for kids
We like Lulu’s - we went 2 weeks ago, was clean and very efficientLulu's Toys now has a website
I wanted to add my recommendation for Lulu's- the web site is really great and ordering and pickup couldn't have been easier (they also deliver, but I felt like getting out). Apparently the owner's daughter, who is named Lulu, built the web site (she is in her 20s now). And when my order was ready I got a text telling me that started with "It's Lulu from Lulu's" - very cool!Lulu's Toys now has a website
Just wanted to second this shoutout (we've placed several orders and had a great experience each time) and mention that Lulu's now has an online birthday registry! So you can let your family/friends know exactly what your child wants and support your local store/community when they are buying birthday gifts!Lulu's Toys now has a website
Wanted to send a shout-out to Lulu's Toys in North Slope. Brigitte & Lulu have been very helpful doing curbside delivery and responding to emails/calls asking about their inventory or recommendations. Wanted to share that they now have a website if like me you're spending all of your daycare savings in arts, crafts and toys: @lulus-cuts-and-toys.myshopify.comAlternatives to Amazon for shipping toys and books
Lulu’s Cuts and Toys in Park Slope will hand delivery items from their store! I don’t know where you’re located or what their boundaries for delivery are but the store owner was really helpful and delivered the item we wanted the next day and even did a contactless delivery per my request. I knew what item I wanted, but I’ve heard she is also recommending items.Shout out to Lulu's Cuts and Toys on 5th Ave & Bergen!
Seconding the shout out for Lulu’s - we just got a wonderful delivery of puzzles and board games. They are also teaming up with Blue Sky bakery for joint deliveries, so we got delicious muffins and coffee brought over as well. Highly recommend as a pick me up.Shout out to Lulu's Cuts and Toys on 5th Ave & Bergen!
Lulu's just provided an excellent bribe for my 5 year old! An Elsa doll for her and a 2000 piece puzzle for us. Brigitte says they have lots of stock. She answered my frantic call and had the toys ready for pickup at the door within an hour.Toys / Crafts to help a 2 1/2 year old play independently
I recommend calling Lulus toy store in park slope, they are doing curb side pick ups and deliveries. The owner is extremely helpful and will have great recommendations. It’s more important now than ever to support our local stores.Kids' haircuts?
We have been to Lulu’s twice, haircut was ok, but nothing special and $35 is a bit steep considering my son barely had hair this past summer.Kids' haircuts?
We won’t be returning to Lulu’s. After a bath and a reg day, it’s actually really clear that it’s a mediocre, at best, cut. More like “bad,” if you ask me. We spent $36 w tax/tip. I did love the efficiency[Summer2016Babies] Hair cut
We had an okay experience at Lulu's but its still too expensive for what you get - I think it was over $40 after tipping.[Summer2016Babies] Hair cut
We went to Lu Lu's for Ben's 1st haircut and had a decent experience, but went back again this past weekend and had a pretty bad experience. So much so that I left a negative Yelp review (something I don't do very frequently). Here's what I put on Yelp: "It's such a cute store and concept, and even though our son sobbed all through his first haircut there a few months ago we still considered it a good experience and were happy with the cut (although $30 for a haircut that literally takes less than 10 mins is extreme). We took our now 17 month old back for his second haircut this weekend and had a horrible experience. It wasn't busy at all but we were totally rushed. He was feeling shy and apprehensive and hugging my leg and so they quickly said he should sit in my lap instead of in a car chair by himself. I said we just wanted a trim with the scissors of his beautiful curls (like he had last time) and the stylist instead said "it's easier is I use the clippers", I told her I wanted the scissors and that I didn't want it too short. "This is easier" she said (meaning I think for her) and criticized his "cowlicks" repeatedly. He sobbed and screamed the while she basically gave him a buzz cut (They didn't put a cape over either one of us so I had his hair in my shirt and all over me). It makes me sad to see my cute little guy with buzz cut hair totally different from what I asked for. Moments later as we shopped in the store, another little boy his age came in and was also crying getting his haircut. His dad took a stuffed big bird from the shelf to try to comfort him and they yelled at him "they can't play with the toys that are for sale!" The dad said he's not going to do anything to it, just hold it. "That's what they all say!" they responded. How heartless, so if a kid picked up that stuffed animal while shopping you'd yell at them to not touch it? To pay such a high price and be treated so poorly. It's a shame." I'll also add that there were lots of other reviews ranging from 1 to 5 stars, I think it's possible to have a great time there, but many of the one star reviews the owner responded in a pretty mean way and that combined with my last experience there and the price has left a bad taste in my mouth.[Summer2016Babies] Hair cut
Those that want the kiddie car can also head to Lulu's in North Slope. They also give you a certificate with a lock of hair for first haircut and a balloon and you have the option of popping in a video to distract them if you want. Lasts 10-15 minutes. It was around $30 for my daughter about 3.5 years ago. But after that first one when we realized she was at ease about the cut we started going someplace that charged just $18.[Winter2016Babies] Kids haircut - South Slope
Lulus! Extortion but fun for a first cut.SUMMARY: Where to get crazy curly hair cut
Thanks for everyone who responded! We ended up seeing Marlena at Lulus Cuts & Toys and she was fantastic. She gave my daughter layers and her curls look great.SUMMARY: Where to get crazy curly hair cut
Our 5yo goes to Marlena at Lulu's on 5th Ave. Same sort of hair as your daughter, and Marlena's kid has even curlier hair. We've been happy customers for a few years.[Spring2016Babies] Baby haircut
Lulu's on Fifth Ave does a great job, but they're a little pricey for a toddler cut ($30something). Lots of diversion for the kids to keep them happy (videos, bubbles, race-car seats).[PSP Winter 2016] Babies first hair cut
Lulu's Cuts and Toys is great. They've trains and cars to sit in. We love Marlena.[PSP Winter 2016] Babies first hair cut
I'm happy to report that we had a great experience at Lulu's, although it did feel kind of silly to spend $30 on a haircut - that's more than I pay to cut my own hair. The haircut itself is not exactly de rigueur but Rafi would not exactly sit still. What I really wanted was for him to have a pleasant experience and he definitely had that in the little train car watching Sesame Street, and he loves his balloon. Fwiw I called Cuts on Garfield and the guy kind of gave me attitude and said they don't cut hair of kids under 2. Must have been someone working there today who didn't know what he was talking about!Re: First Hair Cut for Curly Hair?
Lulus did a great job with my sons curly hair and they have great chairs, even a TV if needed. The ladies were patient and quick.Shout out: Lulu's Cuts
I wanted to piggy back on the Lulu's Cuts recommendation. I believe we had Laura as well and were really happy with the experience. My son desperately needed a haircut so we finally caved at 14 months. He was distracted by the TV and didn't cry at all, thanks to Laura's quick hands, calmness and charm with children. She also did a good job at calming mom and dad and being directive with us on how to make this a anxiety-free experience. She gave suggestions but also listened to our concerns/wants (my husband wanted to chop off all the curls and I wanted to keep a little bit!). Anyway, I would definitely recommend Lulu's for a baby haircut.Shout out: Lulu's Cuts
I just wanted to give a quick positive review for our experience yesterday at Lulu's Cuts & Toys on 5th avenue. I was very hesitant to go there because the reviews online and on PSP are generally not so great. This was my son's first haircut (he's 22 months old), and he has a mix of curls in the back and the sides, with straight, fine hair on top and in front. Our haircutter, Laura, worked super-fast, and my kiddo got to sit in the train seat, which he loved. They put on a DVD for him (of our choice), but he was so distracted by the train and the weird stuff going on around his head, that he barely watched it. He was a little anxious, but she was really good at just working around it, and most importantly, did a great job cutting his hair exactly the way I'd asked her to. Anyway, just wanted to get a good review out there, as there aren't too many options for little kid's cuts. We had a great experience, I'm really glad we went there.First haircut for a 15 month old
We had gone to Gina at Kidz Cut Zone for years, and reluctantly tried Lulu's this year. We were all happy with the cuts, and with the staff.First haircut for a 15 month old
Thanks for your recommendations! We ended up going to Lulu's just because it was easiest. There were actually no other kids there, probably because it was Labor Day weekend, so they were really focused on him. The lady who cut his hair was great - mellow, but totally focused on moving quickly and efficiently. We put in a video and he held onto a few toys during the process (they had a bin full). He sat on my lap the entire time, which was key to helping him feel comfortable. Plus the video and toys were necessary to keep him distracted. He would never sit still or let a stranger touch his head otherwise. And they gave him a balloon when he was done, which he was obsessed with all day. So all in all, they did a great job and it was fast. If he needed something more stylish, I would maybe find something less kid-centric. But he doesn't (and didn't!) have enough hair for that, just a little clean up was all we needed and they did great.First haircut for a 15 month old
I second the advice to avoid Lulu's. We've given them multiple chances. Every time we've given very specific directions and asked them not to give our son a bowl cut. And every time he's left looking like Prince Valiant. (And we have talked to several other parents who have had similar experiences.) It's a shame, because I have had great experiences with the owner, the toy store employees, and the employees at the other shops. But the haircutting is just bad.Back First haircut for a 15 month old
Give Lulu's a miss. Had a miserable experience there. They butchered my little guy and were rude and unhelpful and had no interest in doing anything to address how obviously unhappy we were about it. Give anywhere else a try.Back First haircut for a 15 month old
Lulu's on 5th ave. is great! A friend recommended the place to us for our 16-month old, and it was a great experience. The stylists have tons of experience with distracting toddlers and also being very gentle and sweet with uncooperative kids.Best Place for Baby Boy's First Haircut
Just following up on the idea that a couple people have mentioned that Lulu's can be a little overwhelming with multiple kids, TVs, etc...I've been there with my nephew and agree.Best Place for Baby Boy's First Haircut
I just brought my daughter to Lulus for her first cut last weekend based on recos I received from a similar post. She's 18 months and had an interesting mullet-esque look going on and Jennifer did a very nice job cleaning it up and making it even so that I think it will start to grow in quite nicely so I'd recommend them based on her work. She was also very sweet to my daughter and to my husband and I who were filming the rite of passage and trying to micro-manage the styling!! That said, it was certainly an overwhelming environment and a bit more expensive than I'd have liked but the certificate is sweet and we left without any tantrum so the good outweighed the badBest Place for Baby Boy's First Haircut
We have had some good, some bad experiences at Lulus. The first haircut certificate is cute so we'll probably go back for my youngest's first cut. A couple times I've asked them to clean up a hairline or a longer lock and the response has been fine, but I often find later on that there are other uneven spots.....and my son is a very still, calm kid in the barber chair. I'm not sure if it's just when they are really busy but there is a certain rushing, frenzy to the haircutting area--multiple TVs blaring, toys everywhere to distract, and often crowds of adults and kids. If your child gets distracted or anxious in crowds or new places, this might be an especially bad spot.Best Place for Baby Boy's First Haircut
I had a great experience at LuLu's. I took my 15 month son old there after the botched job his dad gave him. I give him credit for trying but it was terrible. The hairdresser gave my son who was not cooperating at all a really nice, I hate to say it, hipster haircut. He's definitely the coolest kid in his daycare. I love it! We got a balloon and certificate at the end then played with the train set afterwards.(no subject)
Lulu's will tolerate my younger son who just screams his head off the entire time. (the quality of his haircut definitely suffers.)(no subject)
We love Julianna at LuLu's. We've had a few other stylists who were all perfectly competent, but Julianna is consistently excellent. If you have to get it cut short to fix it, you can always spike his hair up a bit with soap so it will look way cool as it grows out.(no subject)
Julianna at Lulu's is fantastic. My son (now 2) has had his hair cut by 3 different people there, and all were perfectly acceptable (in terms of ability and being good/patient with kids), but Julianna is the best by far. She has cut his hair short and kept it longish, as requested on our most recent visit. I always make an appt specifically with her. I am mystified by the neg comments I have seen on this list about Lulu's.(no subject)
We go to Nelly at Lulu's who gave us great tips on how to deal with my daughter's VERY curly hair. She also gives a great cut!Recommendation for curly kid's haircut
