Therapist for adolescents
We've found Lori Evans at NYU child study center very helpful. She first worked with my stepdaughter, and now works with my son.Therapist that meets with parents only
My son sees Lori Evans and she meets with us separately at least twice a month. We are co-parenting and that really helps us stay on the same page. We have found her to be incredibly flexible with time and the fact that she's working with our son means she's connected to him and gets a sense of what works best for him. We also looked into co-parenting coaching prior and that seemed to be is something that both married and separated couples might use. It helps parents get on the same page if that's the issue.ISO evaluation for depression, anxiety and cutting in teen
I'm so sorry you're facing this. I had a similar situation with my daughter when she was 14. She was always an anxious kid, but depression also kicked in and she began doing some cutting as well. We worked with a therapist whom I really credit with helping her move through that very dark period. It took a while, and I know her struggles will probably be life-long in some way, but the real crisis part of self-harm, etc. ceased. We did also work with a psychiatrist, whom I liked a lot, but my daughter didn't, and doesn't credit her with helping (though I know that's not all accurate). I'll share both referrals below, with extremely high praise for Dr. Evans. Best of strength to you as you get your daughter the help she needs. I'd take it as a good sign that she was honest with you about the cutting. Referrals: Dr. Lori Evans (affiliated with NYU but has an office also in Park Slope) Dr. Catherine Galanter (affiliated with Downstate but also has an office in BK Heights)
