  • Pilates instructor

Lisa Schoenholt of Brooklyn Embodied is THE BEST. She does SO much rehab in her practice, she is an expert in adapting for all different bodies, injuries, mobility possibilities, etc. And, in all honesty, she sees a lot of folks who have been injured by other practitioners and helps them not only recover but get stronger than ever. I've been working with her for over 5 years now, as I continue to build strength and am in the best shape of my life as a 43 year old fitness professional of 20+ years. I love Lisa!
  • shout out for Brooklyn Embodied

For anyone looking to prepare as much as possible for a healthy birthing and post-partum experience and for a way to safely exercise pilates (even in group classes) I highly recommend Brooklyn Embodied. I took their prenatal pilates class to prepare for my labor and it allowed me to have a great birth experience and improve my posture and history of knee issues too. I began by taking one of their virtual one-on-one classes and ever since I've been continuing with their weekly group classes and I'm always impressed by the great individualized attention they can provide, despite being over Zoom! My sister and mother also participate in their different pilates class options and they always rave about their experiences too. The prenatal class helped empower me to avoid diastasis and pelvic floor issues and learn many exercises I've also been able to practice on my own throughout pregnancy and post-partum. They also offer diastasis repair and are very well informed about pregnancy, labor, post-partum and early parenting support. I highly recommend!
  • Symphysis pubis dysfunction pain in pregnancy - recommendations?

I am so sorry you're dealing with this pain! Lisa Schoenholt, of Brooklyn Embodied, is great with exercises to help with this. She is seeing clients exclusively online right now.
  • Best online prenatal yoga or workouts?

I love my Pilates instruction Lisa Schoenholt. She’s teaching all virtual now and can be reached at brooklynembodied@gmail.com She has a weekly schedule of day time and evening classes and also does privates. She does pre and post natal and amazing with modifying.
  • Virtual strength training?

I would highly recommend Lisa from Brooklyn Embodied She has been doing amazing virtual pilates/strength classes since the beginning of the pandemic. The classes are small so you get a lot of attention virtually. I slack off when I am doing something streaming unless the instructor is actually watching me and correcting my form. She does 20 min express classes throughout the week as well as full 45 min classes and some privates as well. You can email her for the full schedule - - brooklynembodied@gmail.com
  • Pilates zoom classes?

I can second Lisa Schoenholt - she gives great online feedback.
  • Pilates zoom classes?

My Pilates teacher, Lisa Schoenholt, does Google Hangout group classes. $18/class or 5 for $45. I'm not sure what her exact schedule is, but you can check her website. She's *awesome* SO knowledgeable and has been teaching virtually for years now so hasn't had any learning curve for the electronic medium.
  • Diastatis recti

Lisa was the best. She has since moved to Westchester, but has multiple online classes every week, does online privates, And comes to Brooklyn for a weekend once a month. And comes to Brooklyn for a weekend once a month. She’s helped a number of my friends correct DR Through online classes.
  • Diastasis prevention + rehab

Another vote for Lisa Schoenholt! She's truly amazing. I take her virtual classes weekly, they're only $15, she gives plenty of personalized attention and there are often pregnant women in the class. brooklynembodied.com
  • Diastasis prevention + rehab

After my last delivery, I started seeing Lisa Schoenholt (brooklynembodied@gmail.com). She’s amazing and diastasis repair is her specialty. She can meet in person, but mostly she does one-on-one sessions and group classes virtually. I can’t say enough about how she’s helped me and tons of other women like us!! And, she works with pregnant women on prevention!
  • SUMMARY Re: ISO early AM pilates class

I second Lisa Schoenholt. I’ve been taking the google hangout classes for almost a year (after having attended her in person classes) and I love it.
  • SUMMARY Re: ISO early AM pilates class

Though not exactly what you're looking for, this might even be better! Lisa Schoenholt of Brooklyn embodied does Pilates classes and privates via google hangout so you can do them wherever you like! She's amazing and an expert on diastasis and other post-natal issues. I've been taking Pilates with her for 5 years and she was my doula for 2 of my kids. Most of my time with Lisa was in person but I find the google classes just as good. She can still see my form and correct me like she does in person. And once a month, she comes back to Brooklyn to teach.
  • Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey

Have nothing but raves about Lisa as a doula. She truly was a lifesaver and helped prepare us for our baby. We had an unexpected preterm baby and spent three days in the hospital prior to the delivery. Lisa gave me a crash course in what to expect. She also stayed with me and assisted up until the c section. Lisa provided emotional and practical support. She also helped me with pumping prior to being able to see a specialist. I highly reccomend! Based on November 2016 birth experience
  • Shoutout: Brooklyn Embodied for recovering moms

I just wrapped up my first six weeks of baby and me classes with Lisa at Brooklyn Embodied, and I wanted to drop a line to encourage any fellow mamas recovering from pregnancy and childbirth - especially if you've had a C or have diastasis - to check her out. I had never done pilates before, and I have a whole new respect for it, and for my poor, neglected core. I was doing yoga and training for a race when I realized my abs were just not up for it, and that I might have diastasis. Six weeks later I feel like I stand taller and have more strength. When I do reverse situps I wanna yell, Look ma, no hands! I was so grateful another mom had shouted out Lisa - who's a fellow spring mom like myself - so I'm paying it forward. Let me know if you want more info.
  • Recommendation for Pilates Instructor - Lisa Schoenholt

I’d like to share a recommendation for a terrific pilates instructor, Lisa Schoenholt. I have been taking classes with Lisa for the last couple of years and have found it so helpful with improving my core strength and helping with the back and neck pain I’ve become prone to due to daily work and life with kids. The classes are small and held in Lisa’s studio on Bergen Street near Barclay’s. I’ve taken classes with great instructors at other pilates studios before, but nobody gets to know you and your needs like Lisa does. She gives tons of individual attention and correction of form and makes modifications for anyone who needs it due to injury, postpartum recovery, etc. I did not have issues with post-partum diastasis, but this is one of the areas Lisa specializes in. She is also a trained doula and mom of two and works with many moms during and after pregnancy. It is a very welcoming and non-judgmental environment, suited for beginners as well as more advanced students. Lisa does private sessions as well as group classes and currently is also running baby and me pilates and diastasis workshops. Details can be found on her site www.brooklynembodied.com I have no affiliation, just a very happy client.
  • Re: ISO Post natal Pilates recommendations

I love Lisa Schoenholt's classes. She teaches small groups in the basement studio of her apt building in north slope near barclays center. She gives lots of individual attention and modifies the workout to your needs. Plus the others in class are really fun and supportive to be around. (Reviewed March 2015)
  • Based on a 2014 Birthing Experience

Member Review: Lisa was amazing. She is also my friend and Pilates instructor. She participated as a friend and has since become a fully certified doula. as a Pilates instructor with expertise in pain issues Lisa has helped me tremendously over the years to address neck and back pain. She is an expert on the human body and always makes me feel like she really understands what's happenig with my body. So the transition to doula was perfect. She kept me calm and breathing and knew just what to do and say to help me through each moment of my labor. I am so grateful she was there - she made both my husband and me feel super supported. • Re: Physical therapist for back pain during pregnancy

Though she is not a physical therapist, Lisa Schoenholt at Brooklyn Embodied is an amazing Pilates instructor and kept me pain free through my pregnancy. She's very careful with regards to what one can and can't do while pregnant and gave me exercises to do at home to supplement my lessons. I had to wear a support belt through my first pregnancy (before I started seeing Lisa) but was able to get through my entire second pregnancy without a brace and almost completely pain free. Even if you're not pregnant, Lisa is amazing.
  • My FAV Pilates teaches is doing intro for new students!

I never do this, but just had to now. Via my email I saw that Brooklyn embodied is now doing an into to Pilates class, next week the 17th. Lisa (mom to sweet Sammy) just recently opened her own studio, right by Barclays, on Bergen. The reason I'm posting this is because Lisa has helped me immensely with back pain and more. I swear, I'm her biggest fan. I wish this amazing resource for you all. I started seeing Lisa 2ish years ago for mommy & me Pilates, and have continued (solo). Not as much as I'd like of course. Thou now that she opened her own studio, she has more availability that I'm going to take advantage of. She rocked my world! Basic positions that I thought were right from other basic Pilates and yoga classes were sooo not She's super focused and goes above and beyond to help you. AND, She's also a certified "body movement analyst". I had to google it back then, haha, but wow. Email the studio for more information on the intro class, or just do yourself a favor and see her even if you already take Pilates or yoga (July 2014)
  • Great Pilates studio

Two years ago I didn't really know what Pilates was. I started taking classes and private lessons with Lisa Schoenholt of Brooklyn Embodied and fell in love with it. She helped me through back pain, through runner injuries, and was especially helpful throughout my recent pregnancy. I was so excited when the doctor recently cleared me to return to exercise after having my new baby and I'm back in her classes and already seeing a difference. I know it's hard to try something new - so I just wanted to share that she is holding an Introduction to Pilates class next week. Let me know if you want more information or feel free to reach out to Lisa directly. (Juli 2014)
  • New Pilates studio in North Slope

Wanted to give a shout-out for a great new Pilates studio, Brooklyn Embodied. I've taken private lessons and classes with Lisa Schoenholt for over a year, and bottom line: she is AMAZING. She's had a fully booked schedule, so hasn't been able to take on new clients...but this summer, she's expanding to a bigger place and will take a handful of new clients for group mat classes (mostly daytime, with some possible openings in the evening). A couple of points to note: 1. Lisa is trained as a movement analyst, so she gives lots of personal attention, which is great for beginners or anyone who needs to rehab old injuries. 2. Lisa has created a wonderful little community of clients, who come together for clothing swaps, FB contests, and holiday parties. Join us! 3. Back to the topic of beginners, as an ultra-beginner myself, I find Lisa incredibly patient, non-judgmental, and supportive of every teeny tiny effort and step towards success. She knows just how hard to push (physically and emotionally) and when to step back.
  • Re: Seeking physical therapist/doctor with experience in back pain durin

If your friend would like to go the Pilates route, I highly recommend Lisa Schoenholt at Brooklyn Embodied. She has done wonders for my back and has a ton of experience with pregnant clients. Plus, she's local!
  • Re: Seeking physical therapist/doctor with experience in back pain

I also very highly recommend Lisa. She worked wonders for me when I was in terrible back pain.
  • Pilates classes

I second the rec for Brooklyn Embodied, based in N. Slope. The classes are small and each participant gets personal attention from Lisa. She recently started "12 Days of Pilates" where a new Pilates exercise will be introduced each day, with video and instructions.
  • Pilates classes

    Try Brooklyn Embodied!
  • Shout out for Pilates at BrooklynEmbodied

I am a rank beginner at all things physical fitness related. When I trained for a 10K, I got shin splints. When I started lifting weights, I developed "frozen shoulder." Huh, my body was trying to tell me something...."You're not 21, anymore. Hire a professional!" When I saw a posting for BrooklynEmbodied's Day of Pilates, I e-mailed Lisa and asked if I was a good candidate for it. She encouraged me to attend. I did and have been taking one class/week for a month. Already, I feel more flexible, relaxed and focused. The classes are small, a max. of 4 students, so there is plenty of individual attention. We perform various exercises on mats and sometimes use bands, etc. Lisa is great at identifying areas that need improvement and modifying the exercises to different abilities. no affiliation, just eternally grateful that I can move my shoulder, again!
  • infant/child CPR certification class

Her classes are great, she really helps you understand the info., and it's perfect for people who like to learn in a small setting. Here is all the info.
  • Physical therapy or Tapler technique for Diastasis

Lisa Schoenholt is an amazing trained pilates teacher with a background in movement analysis. She works in a very thoughtful and effective way with women with diastasis. I have had the pleasure of taking classes and privates with Lisa for the past 10 months. She has helped me work through back pain, become stronger, and lose my baby weight (and then some!).
  • Back pain workshop in North Slope

Lisa has been a total life-saver for me...after months of hip pains and lower back spasms (all that carrying! and bending!), and after massages and appointments with physical therapists, Lisa was the one who successfully helped rid me of my pain. She's worked with me (pushing me just the right amount and encouraging me to take it nice and slow, as I build up my strength) -- and several others on PSP -- so I strongly recommend you check her out. (June 2013)
  • RECOMMENDATION: Pilates teacher

I wanted to recommend an excellent pilates and movement therapy teacher--Lisa at BrooklynEmbodied. She provides private instruction and offers group classes. From personal experience I can say she is amazing with rehabilitative work if you are experiencing physical pain.
  • Shout out for my fabulous Pilates instructor

I would like to recommend my Pilates instructor Lisa Schoenholt. I have had back problems for as long as I can remember and Lisa is the first person who is able to help me! She teaches mat classes - both in small groups and as private lessons. I have taken group classes from her and now take private lessons - but felt like I got just as much attention in the group as I do now (to be honest, it's a little annoying that she is so attentive. It's hard to cheat with Lisa). If you are looking for a great instructor, she teaches 4 person group classes on Monday/Tuesday evenings and just opened a new Thursday 9-10 am and Tuesday 8:30pm class which both have openings. The classes are in the North Slope.
  • Re: Pilates?

Lisa Schoenholt is truly amazing! She does classes and privates out of her home right across from Bark. She has a very extensive background in dance, movement therapy and pilates. I've never worked with someone so gentle and experienced.

I went to her Pilates class at the Windsor Terrace Y yesterday...and wow! She knows her stuff, she gave me great individual attention, and I left feeling great. I've never done Pilates before and am definitely a BEGINNER -- and I felt like I was in very good hands working with her. If you're thinking about giving Pilates a try, the classes at the Y seem to be a great way to dip a toe in. More info here: http://ywindsorterrace.org/adult-pilates.html September 2012

I'm fessing up: I really really hated pilates (too boring, too slow, never really "got it"). And with that said, I have really been enjoying Lisa Schoenholt's semi-private classes in the N. Slope. She's expanding to classes elsewhere (Windsor Terrace Y) and without offering an advertisement for her, I wanted to thank those PSP who suggested her 6 months ago, and suggest any other bach-aching mommies consider her. She's at: www.brooklynembodied.com September 2012

I just wanted to recommend an awesome baby and me pilates class that I have gone to in the north slope. Lisa Schoenholt is a great teacher--positive, precise, but not uptight--and the classes are small so you get a lot of individual attention. She has a new four-week series starting this Saturday; there are classes at 11:30 and 1 pm. If you're interested her ermail is Lisa@brooklynembodied@gmail.com (May 2012)

I've taken pilates classes with Lisa Schoenholt out of her home in North Slope and she has a babysitter there to watch my 5-month old. It has worked out great! I believe she teaches yoga, too. (September 2011)
