Description
LLS is a French center and French immersion preschool. Since 2006 we have been leaders in progressive language education centered in arts integration, imagination, child-driven projects, and play-based learning. Classes are activity-based, full language immersion classes that will engage students in a circle of interesting and age-appropriate activities and experiments. Instruction is experiential and hands on with a focus on children’s individual needs and interests. We help children to recognize and do their personal best to grow as happy learners.
At LLS children are encouraged to speak French through captivating workshops designed to both educate and entertain. All of our classes are designed to allow children’s hands, minds and emotions to be active in a safe and supportive environment. At LLS, it is our goal to help lay a foundation for the long term appreciation of learning a foreign language.

Absolutely the best pre-school experience we could have asked for. Our daughter attended LLS from 2s to pre-K (3 years), and we feel incredibly lucky that we found this amazing school. While we chose LLS for the French emersion experience, we found so much more. The educators are truly phenomenal, and simply wonderful people. They worked closely with us to support transitions and tailor the day's schedule as needed, particularly during that first year when our daughter was getting used to a school environment. The types and creativity of projects that they do throughout the school year is incredible (from making their own stuffed animals, to baking, to learning how to garden, to writing their own 'books'), and their love and respect for nature and the outdoors was such a positive for our daughter. They combine the development of skills and the French language with incredibly engaging activities and sensory play - we marveled every week reviewing school photos at how diverse and thoughtful activities were. If you are looking for a French emersion pre-school, we could not recommend LLS more highly. It is truly a special place.Review from the Spring 2024 Early Education Survey
REVIEW: We have absolutely loved our child's French immersion experience at LLS over the past three years. It's hard to imagine a better introduction to the school environment. Everyone at the school is incredibly warm and caring, while also cultivating resilience and independence in the students. It is incredible how well our child has learned French, he is leaving the school virtually fluent in French. One of the best features of the school is that during much of the school year, class is held outside in Fort Greene Park a couple of mornings a week (weather-permitting) and the kids learn so much about nature. I truly can't recommend the school highly enough!; Amenities: Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Outdoor class in FGP much of the school year; What would you change? It would be great to have more diversity, which the school is making strong efforts to do via a new location and a scholarship program.Review from the Spring 2023 Early Education Survey
Review: Nothing short of phenomenal. These are educators who are deeply interested and curious about children and teach children to be interested and curious about themselves and the world. The philosophy is child-led and play-based, and I observed that the French immersion element was successful because the kids are genuinely interested in participating so they learn in a more intuitive way. The community runs from completely Francophone families to families who speak no French at all and in between. There are two pre-school programs - Petite Section is 4 days a week with an option to end at noon or 2:30, and the Grand Section is 5 days a week until 2:30. Our kids both thrived there and the instructors and directors really help guide families in those first few years in everything from getting dressed in the morning to the Kindergarten application process. My eldest is rising into K this year fully fluent in French (she passed the assessment test) and has really bloomed as a person. In the three years we've attended so far (my younger is also enrolled), there has never been a repeat in the curriculum - there's enough repetition and structure to work, but the curriculum follows where the kids' interests are and tens to focus on discovery of the natural world. I loved and my kids enjoyed that there is an indoor component as well as a nature school/outdoor school element but it's not one or the other every day. Highly recommend LLS! Amenities: Has after-school options, Has early morning hours What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? I don't know if there's a sliding scale or scholarship option for the school, but given the commitment to anti-racism in the school's focus.Review from the Spring 2023 Early Education Survey
Review: LLS is an incredibly special school at which our child just finished his second year. It is an intimate environment with only two classrooms, so the teachers and administrators know all of the students and families well. It is full French immersion and it has been amazing to see our son start speaking/understanding French fluently (neither of his parents speaks French, though his caregiver does). Beyond that, LLS is just an incredibly nurturing program that encourages children's creativity, curiosity, social development, and independence. Despite not having an outdoor space, the children are outside nearly every day - rain or shine - and typically spend a couple of mornings a week having class in Fort Greene Park. Our son has learned so much about nature and taking care of the earth through his time at LLS. I can recommend the school unreservedly, for French-speakers or for anyone who wants a warm, caring, and stimulating environment for their child's first school experience. Amenities: Has after-school options, Has early morning hours What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Nothing!French summer camp/French Lessons?
Language and Laughter Studio in Boerum Hill is wonderful and they have both classes and a summer camp in Ft Greene Park.Review from the 2022 Summer Camp Survey
Location: Fort Greene Park How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 2.75yrs Review: My son absolutely LOVED French camp with LLS!! He is also a student at the school during the year, so the continuity with the teaching staff was great. He came back every day exhausted and covered in dirt, which I took as a sign that he was having a blast. LLS is incredible at finding creative ways for the children to interact with nature and learn (in French) with lots of free, exploratory play. The flexibility of the camp is great, as you can choose any or all days each week. We sent our son 2-3x a week this year because he was young, but will definitely do 5x a week next summer. Highly recommended!2’s program this fall

My daughter (7) is attending http://www.thelanguageandlaughterstudio.com/ and she is very happy. The teacher, Serena, is great. They organize Italian classes in the morning for little kids and other two Italian classes in the afternoon for the older kids (from 4 to 10 years old). You can find the info in the website.[Italianlanguagegroup] ISO Italian classes/activities
The language and laughter studio on nevins has one and my girls love it!Review from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey
Amazing arts focused camp in french that changes curriculum each week. My daughter went for one week when the theme was wizards and science. Everyday the room was set up with different science experiments and arts stations. She attended 9-noon, but there is a later pick up option too. If you could change anything, what would it be? nothing Age of child: 3 Based on a Summer 2017 experienceIntroducing young kids to second languages
I highly recommend Laughter and Language Studio in cobble hill and Muriel's World (classes in cobble hill and Brooklyn heights) for french classes. My son loved these classes when he was a toddler. The teachers are fantastic and worth the trip from the slope.
