  • Review from the Spring 2024 Early Education Survey

Review: We choose la Petite Colline because the take kids outside sometimes twice a day, after an experience at another daycare where they didn’t take kids at all outside. Our child was in the explorer class (younger class) she started at 18 months. We loved how much care they put into the transition into school and the updates were very helpful. The school works hard on building a community among parents. Amenities: Has outdoor space, Has after-school options What would you change? There were unprecedented number of change of teachers, we had one amazing first teacher for the first 3 months, she truly was a gem but after that there were lots of more sub/ and trial and assistant teachers. Communication on the changes were not great. We chatted to parents in other classrooms and they did not experience this, so it seemed like it was unique to our classroom.

REVIEW: LPC is caring and safe. There are lots of opportunities for enrichment esp. in 3k and pre-K with soccer and tennis which you pay extra for and music, French, and chess which are included in tuition. There is an emphasis on art, play, and dance as well. It is more academic than most school. They begin alphabet music instruction at 3 years old and phonics and early reading in 3 and 4. Sometimes the activities felt above level, but My daughter didn’t care. Our family does not speak French. I don’t think she learned much French, but some other kids did.; Amenities: Has outdoor space; What would you change? I wish it was a little more organized, esp. communication

Location: Fort Greene Type of facility: Daycare, Preschool Review: We love absolutely loved La Petite Colline! Our daughter has been there since she was 17 months (and will leave to start at a preschool-12th grade school), and we have loved our experience. It was the perfect first introduction to "school" and the teachers are wonderful. It's an incredibly "school-like" daycare, with great structure but still a focus on play. My only complaint is that the administration is not great at communicating, but we've been able to overlook that because my daughter's daily experience is so positive. What amenities does the facility have? Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, provides snacks, but not breakfast or lunch What would you change about the program, if anything? I wouldn't change much -- just better communication from the administration Is there anything you would like to add about how the school is handling the pandemic? The school has handled the pandemic pretty well, and in the last 2 years, our classroom has only closed twice.
  • Immersion or dual language daycare for 1-3 year olds

La Petite Colline in Clinton Hill is French immersion and Mi Casita in Bed-Stuy on the Clinton Hill border is Spanish immersion, both are excellent.

  • Review from the 2020–2021 Daycare, Preschool, Pre-K, and K Survey

Review: Our daughter started at LPC at 18 months and could not have been happier. The toddler educator in the small kids (Explorers) classroom, Gina, is absolutely fantastic, loving and caring. Our daughter created a real bond with her, the other educator and other kids in her group. LPC has big, bright classrooms with a Montessori/Reggio vibe - no/very few plastic toys. There is a music class every week, kids go outside (backyard or local park) once or twice a day, and healthy snacks are served twice daily (but you must pack a lunch). Kids’ birthdays are celebrated, and a lot of updates are provided daily using the Brightwheel app. The program is in French and English, but in the small kids classroom it’s more “exposure to French” than a bilingual program. That being said, there is a French-speaking educator in each classroom. We always felt loke our daughter was wel cared for and genuinely loved. We would absolutely send her there again. Facility amenities: Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours What would you change about the program? Art program was great, but often felt often very output-driven rather than process driven. Communication with admin around covid protocols/child development/ other issues was sometimes difficult. Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? Good protocols, few cases and closures. Sometimes required kids and parents to get tested (after holidays).
  • Pre-School options for infants just under 2 and/or other program suggestions?

Our 20 month old started at La Petite Colline (Vanderbilt Ave between Lafayette & Dekalb) last month and we're very happy with it! He's in the Explorers classroom for 1-2 year olds and loves it. We also applied to the infant-toddler program at the Clinton Hill JCC but didn't get a spot. Good luck with your search!
  • Re: part-time programs for 20-month old

I'm sending my kids to this great new school that's opening in Fort Greene. I live in Center Slope, but it really close to public transportation. It's a progressive school that takes its influence from European education- think lots of open play, spending time outdoors, and emphasis on culturing imagination and problem solving not rote academics. They have part time options for the little ones. It's a really lovely program. The cost is quite reasonable as well (by NYC standards at least)
