Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey
What month and year was your child born? October 2022 Review: We worked with Raychel Franzen and Kori Krysh at RK Doulas and had a wonderful experience. I was excited by the fact that they are a duo, so you know you will have one of them at your birth (vs a solo practitioner who sends someone on call, if needed). They are both incredibly knowledgable, well versed in the research, and were quick to answer any questions. Raychel attended my birth and was invaluable. She helped me ask the hospital staff for more time to evaluate my choices and make decisions. She crucially slowed down a moment when the hospital staff was about to give me a drug to slow my labor but, as it turned out, was not necessary. That short pause allowed my own doctor to arrive and make a different decision, which spared me from having what I imagine would have been a much longer labor. She also provided much-needed hands-on support for what was some very uncomfortable back labor and enabled my husband to get some rest. She continued to check in on us for months after my son's birth and even helped me overcome my fear of babywearing. Any advice for people who are considering using a birth doula? I suffer from moderate anxiety and hiring a doula was essential for me. I read SO MUCH about birth but my anxious brain could not hold onto all of the information. Having someone who has been at hundreds of births gave me confidence that they would be able to tell me if what was happening was normal, abnormal, etc and that they could help me in decision making. I believe having a doula truly saved me from having a c-section, which was not my birth plan.Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey
What month and year was your child born? 02/2023 Review: We just loved Raychel and Kori from the moment we interviewed them. They both have awesome personalities and we felt like we really connected on a personal level and would be comfortable having either of them with us for our birth. I had a mostly uncomplicated pregnancy so I didn’t need their services much during pregnancy until the end but any time I had any questions, they were quick to respond and provided so many helpful resources. Towards the end, Kori was extremely helpful in talking through our situation with us (marginal previa) and giving us a lot of good advice and things to consider. Kori was with us on the day, and it felt good having her there to help us decide to ultimately do a c-section. We didn’t go through any labor but if we had, I know she would have been an incredible person to have with us. During our post natal visit, she worked with me on latching and breastfeeding positions and while I ultimately decided to stop breast feeding, I was glad to have the knowledge and ability to make the decision that was best for me knowing all of my options and things to try before making that decision. I would absolutely recommend them as a doula duo!! Any advice for people who are considering using a birth doula? Interview multiple doulas and choose someone who you feel like you could be friends with and that you connect with, as you could be spending a long time with them! We chose ours as we felt like we could hang out with them and that we would enjoy their company and be able to make jokes and laugh and take the edge off of the situation when needed.Review from the Spring 2022 Birthing Survey
I have used Kori as my birth doula for two births now and highly recommend her. She has a calming and supportive presence and helped me have two unmedicated childbirths, both times in hospital settings. She has a great balance of offering support and suggestions while also giving space for partners and healthcare providers. A fabulous doula!Review from the Spring 2022 Birthing Survey
We hired Kori and Raychel in the spring of 2021 for our baby's due date in September 2021. We hired Kori and Raychel because they have a great deal of combined experience, but also because they had an ease around working with each other which made us feel taken care of, and confident. Kori attended our birth. She was available via text and cell immediately and helped coach me through early (painful) labor, which I'm grateful for, as I would have gone to the hospital a lot sooner than I did had she not been giving me guidance and pushing me (gently) to stay the course as long as possible, all while giving my husband reassurance. During labor and delivery she was helpful in providing tips to keep me comfortable and help me advocate for what I wanted as much as possible with the hospital team. Her confidence and clear communication was exactly what we needed, and it contributed directly to my active labor experience being really positive and something I look back on fondly. We had a few meetings prior to our baby's birth, but I think the text experience post partum was the most helpful for me, as a new mother with no newborn experience, I needed a lot of reassurance and confirmation regarding how we were parenting our baby. Kori and Raychel were also really helpful with referrals as well as support with breast feeding, and encouraging me during a challenging period. They were also very flexible and responsive along the way. I definitely recommend hiring this team and am grateful they were a part of our first birthing experience!Review from the 2021 Birthing Experience Survey
I feel so lucky to have had Kori as my doula. I have no doubt she is the reason my labor and delivery went so well—I felt prepared when new things came up because we had discussed them before I was in labor and felt confident in and good about my decisions. She was also a huge help to my husband, advising him on when to sleep or go get food, and explaining what was happening (and why it wasn't something to be concerned about) when my labor went a bit unexpectedly. She also took pictures right after our daughter arrived that I would never have thought to take, but I I am so grateful to have. Kori also really helped postpartum when I was struggling with breastfeeding—I was pretending everything was fine and she checked in, saw that clearly I was NOT fine, and gently but firmly said, you need to take a day and take care of yourself, and that was what I needed to hear. She is wonderful!Doula and pediatrician reco?
If you're still looking for a doula, I wholeheartedly recommend Raychel Franzen (doularaychel.com) and Kori Krysh (korikrysh.com), who work together in a partnership model. My husband and I hired Raychel and Kori before the pandemic. Once we were in lockdown, we switched our scheduled in-person prenatals to several Zoom chats, where they provided evidence-based information on preparing for labor and delivery itself, and answered all questions my husband and I had. When I had an induction due to gestational diabetes two weeks ago, Kori came to the hospital when we were ready to have her there and comforted me throughout, but especially during intense contractions once they broke my water. I had a relatively short labor given I was induced, and credit much of that to the people / my team involved -- not just Kori but my husband, nurse, and OB. Since then, Raychel and Kori have continued to reach out to me and my husband to check in, knowing we are exhausted and struggling as first-time parents. They've provided us with the most important things we need now -- emotional support in these trying times along with information and assurance that we're doing the best we can. They are empathetic, sympathetic, knowledgeable, and practical. I had a great experience with them and trust you will as well if you decide to go with them.Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
Kori Krysh is incredible— she was warm, comforting, endlessly knowledgeable, and completely intuitive in catering her support to what I needed in the moment. She was at the birth of both my kids, and each experience was very different— and she was invaluable each time. With the first, everything was a new and slightly scary experience, and with the second, my husband had our daughter to manage, and she helped me get ready for the hospital while I was in rapid transition and had no idea what I was doing. She is truly a magician, and I can’t recommend her highly enough.2020 Review
Kori was wonderful to work with and a kind, energetic, and positive presence at the birth of our first child. We always felt free to reach out to her with questions and concerns and she provided knowledgeable, thorough, and helpful answers. I went into labor which stalled after some time--Kori had already come over to our apartment and she spent the remainder of the night with us to make sure all went okay. My eventual delivery was long and had a number of complications, but Kori provided guidance, reassurance, and necessary firmness and authority as required. Perhaps most of all, she was an excellent and unflappable advocate for us with our medical team--very collaborative but also asking the right questions when we didn't always know to do so or letting know when we might question or push back on something. We loved working with her!2019 Birth Survey
Kori is very knowledgeable and caring. I did wish she had more pain management tricks and had trouble reaching her post-birth but that was probably because it was a holiday weekend.2018 Birth Survey
Kori was wonderful, warm, and knowledgeable. She was such a stress reliever to my husband and I before the birth, and helped a lot in formulating our thoughts on the birth. Plus, she provided a basic childbirth course during one of her prenatal appointments, which was really helpful.doula
Hi had Kori Krysh as my doula, and she was wonderful! I highly recommend her.Review submitted via 2015 Birth Survey
Review: Kori was truly fantastic. My first baby was born with an emergency C-section and I knew there was a strong chance I would need another but really wanted to try for a VBAC the 2nd time around. Kori was honest, understanding and supportive. Even though I did wind up with a csection she helped me through my labor and made me feel more at ease. She was there after the surgery and made sure the nurses put the baby in my arms so I could nurse right away. I highly highly recommend Kori. Insurance: No she did not take insurance. Review: I met with several doulas from NYC Doula Collective and ultimately we went with Kori Krysh. She was excellent: supportive, helpful, and I felt absolutely safe and taken care of during labor. I absolutely adored her and am very thankful for her help. Insurance: N/A Based on a 2015 birthReview submitted via 2015 Birth Survey
Kori is full of information, which is helpful, but laid back and looks for cues from the mama/couple to jump in. She obviously loves what she does and that goes a long way!Based on a 2014 Birthing Experience
Member Review: Kori was super-calm and helpful. She was texting me while I wanted to labor at home alone, but made herself available when I said the word a few hours later. She was always rubbing by back, leg, etc.and soothing me while going through a traumatic experience of having an emergency C-section minutes after walking into the hospital. She was great at reminding me of what I wanted to ask and what I should say without stepping on anyone's toes. And she stayed at the hospital to help process those first postpartum minutes/hours. I love that I didn't need to ask her for anything and that she knew exactly what I needed and provided it without discussion. Member Review: She was wonderful, highly recommend. Really helpful in the recovery room, she stayed for several hours, the entire time i was in recovery after a c-section. I was so out of it, my husband was overwhelmed, her presence was stabilizing. Insurance details: Didn't file. (Review submitted via the 2014 Birthing Survey)
