Review from the 2024 Summer Camp Survey
Location: Park Slope YMCA (9th St. & Armory) REVIEW: My son generally loved it - seems quite low-key (no big field trips, etc.) but they swam twice a week and got to do art and fun physical activities/games. They were primarily located at PS107, but swam at the 9th St. YMCA and spent time at the Armory as well. They got ice cream multiple times over the course of the 8 weeks, had silent dance parties and had an end of camp carnival. CHANGES: I'd have had a bit more diverse programming (maybe a trip to the PP Zoo, a martial art lesson, etc.) but understand that would likely have made the price higher. Location: Ps 107 REVIEW: My son had a lot of fun. They swam 2x per week at the Y. They did crafts and had a carnival. The counselors seemed professional, my son has some behavior issues and they implemented a behavior plan that worked very quickly for him. He was stung by a bee while there and they handled it professionally. CHANGES: One morning they were late to start early drop off, which was stressful DETAILS: Age of child; 4.5 … Weeks attended: 2Review from the 2024 Summer Camp Survey
Location: PS 107/Armory/Prospect Park YMCA REVIEW: This camp worked well for my active kid. He had a lot of time to run, play, and swim. CHANGES: Option to choose early drop in option for some days and not all DETAILS: Age of child; 5 … Weeks attended: 42019 Summer Camp Review
Age: 4 yetold Review: My child love the program and activities. But there is lack of communication, disorganized from camp leads/directors What would you change? Would love to see security, organization communication skills get improved.Review from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey
We did not love Kinder Camp at the YMCA. From the start of the experience, communication about camp was very poor and disorganized. Details were only ever shared by telephone, and despite requests for schedule information and other details about camp requirements, we were more often than not left in the dark. Swimming for this group was limited to one day per week, not nearly enough to make a difference or keep the kids comfortable, and the camp seems to resort to putting on a movie in lieu of actual activities when the weather doesn't cooperate (too hot? movie. rain 3 hours ago? movie). The counselors were grumpy and unfriendly; they seemed to barely acknowledge the kids or interact with them during either pickup or dropoff, and my child never failed to need the bathroom or a have an empty water bottle at pickup. It's like noone ever checked to see if the kids needed a thing - the very minimal amount of care wasn't even taken. In sum, I would not recommend Kinder Camp at the YMCA. It was not a great option for our child. If you could change anything, what would it be? The location at PS 10 is difficult to get to for most parents. They should have a drop off at the 9th St Y or the 15th St Y. They MUST provide communication by email. If they want to provide phone confirmation too, that's fine, but being able to look up camp information when needed is essential. Hire less grumpy counselors and tell them they need to be more engaged with the kids. Sitting at the table talking to eachother rather than interacting with the kids is not acceptable. Better activities, more swimming.....I would basically change everything about this camp. There's nothing about it I would recommend. Age of child: 5 Based on a Summer 2017 experience
