Day Care Recommendations - Central or North Slope
Our 2 older boys have attended for 3+ years and our baby is about to start next month. We have only good things to say about their whole team, and have found a little community amongst the kids and parents! They have outdoor space too!Review from the Spring 2023 Early Education Survey
Review: Our daughter loves her daycare. They play outside in the backyard as much as possible, she has learned to clean up and respect other children, and she is well loved and fed when she is there. Our current daycare, Little Skool on 1st (used to be Kids Care on Douglass), also has open spots. We have been with them for two years now, and they have been fabulous. They have a great space, with a large backyard that they bring the kids out to play in everyday. They feed the kids, send pictures to us every day, and have kept up their music and yoga classes by zoom throughout this crazy time. They are very warm and welcoming and my kid has loved all the caregivers there. (September 2020 review)Day Care recommendations in Park Slope
My daughter had an egg allergy and the daycare was careful and accommodating... But it was fairly "easy" as allergies go, I think, and we weren't very worried. Not sure if you'd want to reach out to inquire but I can send contact info if you'd like it. KidCare on Douglass. (June 2019 review)2019-2020 Year Review
We loved kidcare. Our son went there for about a year from 20 months to 30 months. We were very happy with the women who run it, julia and helena, who were usually on site. They were very engaged, approachable and responsive. Our son loved them both and his other teachers. He really blossomed there and we got videos and pictures regularly of all their classes and activities. … About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Provides mealsReview from the 2019 PSP Daycare, Preschool Survey
So happy to have had this daycare for both of my kids. The owners and staff are warm, committed, fun, loving, and educated. They are also open to parent suggestions and requests. In addition to the reading, singing, dancing, art, baking, and play that the staff initiates each day, there is a music teacher and a yoga teacher who each come in once a week. My almost-3-year-old just told me something she learned about the Mojave Desert! We are so happy at Kidcare. Our son started in October and quickly moved into the 2-4 program upstairs. He has been so happy. They have lots of programming, great staff, a backyard so he gets lots of time outside, and they provide all the food and bedding for naps. The management is present, communicative, and very responsive. Plus they are rarely closed so it is so easy for working parents. And when we've needed special accommodation due to scheduling problems they have worked with us. DETAILS: Has outdoor space, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What you would change: I just wish it was closer to where we live, but we're so happy there, we wouldn't change to go to a closer place.2018 Review
My daughter started in January when she was 4.5 months old. She adjusted quickly and now loves her teacher and smiles every time I drop her off. The facility is very clean (it’s a recently renovated space) with a backyard. They have been great about getting my daughter on a nap schedule and were very accommodating about putting up blackout curtains and using a white noise machine to simulate the napping environment at home. I get detailed daily reports and lots of photos and updates throughout the day. This location will have the same music classes, yoga, and art lessons offered at the Douglass location. The owners, Julia and Helen, are very flexible and responsive. Both of my kids are in this daycare facility, one with the younger kids downstairs and one with the older kids upstairs. We have been very happy. My kids are well-loved, well-cared for, having a great time, and learning a lot. There is a yard for play. The kids have music and yoga, each once a week, with an outside provider. The staff has been fairly great and also very accommodating. We love KidCare. Good outdoor space, good food, two great and caring owners who are on-premises most of the time. We would recommend it to anyone. About the facility: Has outdoor space, Provides meals.Review from the 2016/2017 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
Location: 393 Douglass street Type: Daycare About the facility: Has outdoor space, Provides meals Review: Our daughter has been at Kids Care on Douglass for 1 year now and we love it. They have music and yoga class. All meals are provided and they have a garden. Potty training went very well. She is learning a lot and the atmosphere between the kids is excellent. We get along very well with the care givers. I highly recommend it. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? We are planning to ask for a weekly email to know better what the kids are doing since we don't always have time to chat at pick up time.Re: Day Care - 10 month old SUMMARY OF RESPONSES
my son has been going to Kids Care on Douglass since February and he loves it. I was VERY nervous about leaving him for long hours (we do 4 days a week 9-6), but Helen and Julia are so great there, and they cook very nutritious healthy meals for the kids and send us pictures occasionally of Lukas having fun in their backyard!Kidcare on Douglass
I just wanted to let parents who might be looking for a daycare know that Kidcare on Douglass is expanding - they just leased the floor above their current location. My 9-month-old has been there since September and we love love love it. It's a warm, joyful place, and the owners are super flexible and communicative.Review Submitted via Fall 2015 Daycare/Preschool Survey
PROGRAM: 393 Douglass St. TIME: 4 days/ wk AGE: 1-2 years REVIEW: Love the caregivers - Helen, one of the two directors, is working on her Masters in early childhood education. All the caregivers adore the children. They text us photos of our daughter frequently, so we get to see her laughing at bubbles, playing in the water table, doing art projects, whatever. We got daily schedules listing food, naps, diaper changes, mood, notes about the day while she was little. Now that it was the same every day, we said we don't need them anymore. They are in constant communication if you have notes, questions, whatever. Every day they tell us how she did, ask questions, let us know if any issues came up, etc etc. They are cloth diaper friendly - one of only two I found when originally looking. In fact, they love them! They have experience w kids w food allergies, too. They make all the meals - almost all organic. Breakfast is things like eggs, oats, waffles and blueberries... Lunch might be split pea soup, salmon with sweet potatoes and spinach, chicken meatballs and veggies. Snack is fruit, cheese, crackers. They'll do whatever you want re: bottles, breastmilk, formula, cow's milk. Now that the kids are bigger (a whole group started as babies and is now btw 1-2yrs, although there are also new babies), they are incorporating age-appropriate activities and using the "Mother Goos" curriculum, so we get a little newsletter. Mostly they play and do art projects, they have a sing along with the singer from Rolie Polie Guacamole once a week. The backyard is great. WOULD YOU RECOMMEND? PROGRAM: Douglass Street TIME: Full time, 5 days/week AGE: < 1 year REVIEW: This is an incredibly warm and wonderful daycare. The two owners are there every day and very obviously love children. The atmosphere is fun but not at all chaotic; the kids look very happy there. There is a backyard, a separate napping room, and the daycare provides food for the older kids. They are very flexible to parents' needs. They are ok with cloth diapering. I highly, highly recommend Kid Care - my older child went to another daycare, and, while I had no complaints, the two experiences are night and day. WOULD YOU RECOMMEND? REVIEW: We are so blessed to find this daycare. Our child thrived there and has become very close to his teachers and the other kids. He has been going there since he was 1.5 and is now 2.5. They have helped his language flourish, have taught his his ABC's, have wonderful lessons and craft making, have a weekly music class with a professional, and potty trained him in a week! Length of time: 3 days/week Child’s Age: 1-2 years Type of facility: Privately run daycare/preschool with multiple classes and teachersThere is little/no parental involvement with the administration or running of the facility. REVIEW: Our 19-month old daughter has been at Kids' Care since she was 9 months old and she--and we--LOVE it. Helen and Julia (the owners), along with the rest of the caregivers, are warm, engaging, and constantly playing with and talking to the kids. They have a big backyard that the kids play in whenever weather permits, and when the weather is bad, they often engage in arts and crafts and other fun indoor projects. They also have a weekly music class. They provide healthy, organic food for breakfast, lunch and snack. I usually get a photo texted during the day to see what my fun activity my daughter is up to that day, and when I pick her up, I get a run down of the day's events (meals, naps, etc.). When we arrive, my daughter (who is generally on the shy side) can barely wait for me to get her shoes and jacket off before she runs off to greet friends and get started with "morning exercises," and she often doesn't want to leave when I arrive to pick her up at the end of the day. Length of Time: Full days, five days a week Child's Age: 1-2 years Review: This is a warm, upbeat, caring and fun environment for our son. The daycare is run by two experienced childcare providers who spend lots of hands on time with the kids and also do the day-to- day communication with parents. The kids are a mix of babies and toddlers (up to 12 at a time with four caregivers) and they have a nice facility with a big backyard for outdoor play. They provide healthy breakfast, lunch and snacks and my son naps and eats well there. He is excited to see his friends and caregivers in the morning and I love getting texts with cute pictures and updates during the day. Overall, it's a good fit for our family. Recommend (Hi/Rec/DoNot): Highly recommend Would you send your child again? Absolutely
