  • Taxi or car services with car seats

Have used Kidmoto (2019, when my son was ~9 months old) and KidCar (earlier this year, when he was ~2.5yrs old). Both pretty pricey, but not having to deal with the car seat on our travels was pretty meaningful to me. I felt like the KidCar was a much nicer experience, felt more reliable, friendly and knowledgable than KidMoto. But I suspect it may be a function of which driver you happen to get.
  • Getting baby home from the hospital without a car

We exchanged a car seat we were gifted and it didn't arrive before our baby came and so we were stuck without a car seat! We used KidCar and really recommend it, I think even if I had a car seat I'd use it because you have to bring your car seat to the hospital to have it for the ride home, which means your partner has to leave the hospital at some point to get it (we live in Bed Stuy and delivered at NYU Langone so that would have been a real pain regardless) and hospital rooms are small...so I think it's a hassle. The ride share services only have car seats for older kids. KidCar specifically is for coming home from the hospital, they arrived in a big Suburban type vehicle, the driver wore a suit, so it felt like we had a 'driver', and it was spacious and comfortable. It's pricey, but treat yourself! You just had a baby. It was worth it for us to not have to deal with learning a new skill that feels scary with a newborn.

There is a service called kidcar and they are reliable and know how to install the seats and play soothing music on the way home.
  • from 2018

Check out KidCarNY. We used them to get my mom and Faye to and from the hospital when I was pregnant with Lucas and we use them to get back and forth to Newark airport. It costs a little more than an average taxi, but I absolutely love them. The drivers are trained in properly installing the car seats (no matter the configuration) and in infant and toddler CPR. They thoroughly wipe down the seats after they are used. I travelled with an infant, toddler, dog, 6’5” husband, 3 giant suitcases, a toddler bag, a jogging stroller, and multiple carryons and we were all quite comfortable in the car.
  • Re: Car service w/ car seat esp Uber Family -- recent use from LGA?

Try kid car. It's a little more expensive but they have better car seats, they're properly installed and the driver shows up ready to go. We have started using them since we need two car seats and I've been very happy with them. I found them as a recommendation on PSP. Uber family is hit or miss. Dial 7 has a car seat option as well which is good because you can make a reservation

I used KidCar NY recently and they were great. A friend who travels a lot recommended them. The car seat is more of a real seat than uber family and it's set up and ready before they pull up. It's a bit more $$, which was hard to swallow at first, but they're really professional and helpful and I'd use them again.

I ended up trying out KidCarNY. Even with the great feedback on Uber, I was worried that a car wouldn't be available when I landed and I'd be stranded with a cranky toddler waiting for one. I downloaded the KidCarNY app and reserved in advance. I accidentally gave the incorrect arrival time which they texted me to verify. The driver was unfailingly polite, on-time, had the seat installed and insisted on adjusting the shoulder straps -- which he was able to do with her sitting in the seat. At home he brought the bags up my steps. It was great. But pricey. FYI -- tip is included in the final bill; the app is great and allows you to tell them the weight of your kid and whether you want to be forward or backward facing.
