Review from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education Survey
Type of facility: Preschool Review: Katmint is a wonderful private daycare and preschool in the Stuyvesant Heights area of Bed Stuy. The teachers are fabulous and I've seen incredible growth in my daughter in her understanding on classroom norms, her letter and number recognition, her social skills, her physical development - I could go on and on. The community of families is warm and welcoming. It has been a stellar place for our daughter to start her school experience. What amenities does the facility provide? Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? The school administration and leadership are not always the clearest communicators with parents. There have been some recent departures of beloved staff. Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? Extremely cautious and thoughtful. All families are tested for Covid each week on site.Review from the 2020–2021 Daycare, Preschool, Pre-K, and K Survey
Review: So much love for this Preschool. It's created a wonderful nurturing learning environment for my daughter. They really help the kids learn about community and have a topic each month the they focus on. The teachers are so loving and deeply care about the students. Facility amenities: Has outdoor space, Provides meals What would you change about the program? Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? My daughter and her classmates all wear masks and don't think twice about it. They learn that it's how they protect the people in their community and that a positive. The school communicated all updates throughout the year very wellDaycare Recommendations in Bed Stuy
My daughter has been at The Katmint Learning initiative since she was 2 years old. Pre-pandemic, last summer, and all of this year. I've been very happy there, especially this last year. The teachers are caring and thoughtful. They have a real focus on community. We're at the Malcolm X location which is the older kids, but opened their new baby/younger location on Lexington Ave a few months ago.Bed Stuy day care recommendations?
My daughter attends The Katmint. She's 3.5 and is at their Malcolm X location. She started in the 2's class in Sept 2019. They did a great job switching over to remote learning in March and they were able to open up for a summer program (mostly in the park). They're opening a location for 6 month old + on Lexington/Lewis. I think they expect to open early next year. You can send an email to tours@thekatmint.com. The Director, Mrs Ney is wonderful and you can reach her at nmorales@thekatmint.com.Review from the 2020 Summer Camp Survey
Age of child: 3 years Comment: The Katmint did a great job with their summer camp. My daughter is also there full-time year round. They planned a lot of outdoor activities, have a back yard at their location, and a great spaces inside for all kinds of activities. The kids learn a lot while having fun. I appreciate their focus on community and raising kind and thoughtful kids. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? I think they have had a bumpy road with some staff over the last year. There wasn't always a lot of transparency last year, but during COVID they really stepped it up and became a resource for parents and kids. After some turn around with staff, I've been happy with where they stand now. I think the smaller location and class count has been good for them. Anything related to COVID and how the camp handled it you'd like to add? They handled reopening this summer wonderfully. Check in at the door, excellent hand washing protocols, clean facility. Always felt safe.2019-2020 Year Review
Our son has been at Katmint for over 2 years now and absolutely loves it. The staff are super warm and caring. They're also great at communicating with parents, especially regarding kids' development. I would consider them more of a pre-school/day care hybrid, since they definitely have a structured program. … About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hoursReview from the 2017/2018 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
Katmint has been absolutely wonderful for our family. Our son Ravi started there in December of 2017, attending two full days a week. All of the teachers have been so friendly and kind and always keep us updated on how he does each day. I also really appreciate the daily reports, as well as weekly newsletter with info about what the kids' learned. I also personally love that their regular hours are 8:30am-5pm, with after-care available after 5pm. Having a regular day that somewhat mimics a working parent's schedule is amazing and very hard to find! About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hours.
