  • Recommendations please for terrific female gyn doctor?

I just had my first visit with Josine Veca who is a DO of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Methodist: https://doctors.nyp.org/josine-veca-do/newyork-presbyterian-medical-group-brooklyn-multispecialty She is smart, caring, has a sense of humor, and helpfully suggested natural remedies. Only downside is the wait; I booked the appointment with her office in October 2023 and her first opening that jibed with my schedule was in March 2024. I've had other OBGYNs and she was worth the wait.
  • Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey

What month and year was your child born? June 2022 Review: Dr. Veca is great - I chose her based on location and a friend's referral, and was very happy that I did. She was just going to be my OB but I've switched to having her as my full time GYN as well. She has a good bedside manner and shows a lot of care but is also very realistic about everything and laid out all of my options without making me feel like I had to chose one way or another.

What month and year was your child born? December 2022 Review: This was my second delivery with Dr. Veca and she is wonderful. Very empathetic, nice bedside manner, and a great surgeon. She checked on me every day in the hospital, including Christmas, and I felt very well cared for. This was my second scheduled c-section with her, and she is a very skilled surgeon. My recovery both times was super quick, with no complications after.
  • OB-GYN that take GHI

Check Methodist. I go to Dr. Veca and she’s great (she gave birth to my daughter).
  • recommended OB/GYN at Methodist?

I delivered at Methodist with Dr Veca. I would highly recommend her. She is very straightforward but also nurturing. She helped me remain calm and assured during my delivery. Her practice is across the street from the hospital and can be tough to get ahold of as they are alsways busy.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Dr Veca was very respectful of my birthing wishes (natural birth, no induction) and made me feel comfortable. I was very happy she was able to deliver my baby.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Dr. Veca was wonderful! She is affiliated with Brooklyn Methodist Presbyterian Hospital. The office itself is in the hospital and can be frustrating because there is always at least a 1 hour wait for appointments, but I think this is fairly common. Dr. Veca is great though - I enjoyed appointments with her and she went out of her way to check up on me at the hospital after the birth, and even asked for a pic of the baby afterwards!
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Dr Veca is an amazing, warm and thoughtful doctor. She takes the time to listen and understand how you want to deliver. She is very transparent and open . She was absolutely incredible during the birth of our little boy - she was calm and trusting.
  • HELLLOOOO??? Welcome May 2020 Families!

I’ve delivered both of mine at Methodist with Dr. Veca. I definitely wanted something close by and I liked Methodist a lot, with my first I actually walked there in labor. I’ve been lucky to have uneventful pregnancies so I definitely optimized for convenience. The nurses were wonderful and I believe they were building out all private rooms for 2019/20, but I’m not sure if they’ve done it. I like my doctor, but the wait times are super long and she’s a little tough to get in touch with. I think she delivers most of her babies though, they don’t have an ‘on call’ policy, and she personally delivered both of mine, which was nice. (December 2019)
  • Recommendation for OB - Brooklyn Methodist

Dr. Veca is great! She was my main OBGYN. Both she and Dr. McAvoy were there for my delivery. Though my experience with Dr. McAvoy was limited, I was impressed by her as well.
  • 2019 Birth Survey

Dr Veca was wonderful but appointments are hard to get and have incredibly long wait times. She only sees patients on mondays and fridays. Waiting 90 minutes was not unheard of. I often thought Of switching doctors Bc of the wait but never did Bc I liked Dr Veca so much. However she is difficult to get a hold of so if you need a doctor who is at your back and call she is not for you. I had to get all my scans at the Methodist. The machines seemed a bit older and not as high tech as I had at a different hospital with my firstborn
  • 2018 Birth Survey

" In short: if you can get past the serious inconveniences of the office/ practice (extremely long wait times; hard to get a hold of office staff by phone), Dr. Veca's care is really great, especially during labor/delivery. Longer review: Dr Veca is a wonderful provider-- caring, knowledgeable. However, this is a very busy practice. I consistently waited at least 1 hour for each appointment (sometimes almost 2 hours). It's worth considering, because those wait times become hard to handle over the course of many months (and so many prenatal appointments!). Labor is where Dr Veca really shined. She was amazing, and there for nearly every part of the labor/delivery process for me, which occurred over several days. I felt extremely well taken care of. The L&D staff was also wonderful."
  • 2018 Review

We like Dr. Josine Veca, who just delivered our second baby (as well as our August 2016 baby) at Methodist on Sunday :)
  • [Summer2017Babies] OBGYN

Also in Park Slope, Dr. Josine Veca. She is really fantastic: warm, listens, knowledgeable. The only minus is that I did end up having to wait for half an hour to an hour pretty much every time I went in. She and Christy McAvoy work in the same practice in the Barnes & Noble building on 7th Ave next to the hospital, and I was lucky enough to have McAvoy take care of me for the first part of my labor and Veca come in for the final push. They were both wonderful.
  • Thoughts on delivering at Methodist and any recs for OB affiliated with Methodist?

I also recommend Dr. Josine Veca and Dr. Christy McAvoy. Dr. Veca was my OB, but Dr. McAvoy came in for support during the labor. I delivered at Methodist at the end of 2013. It was fine. I would do it again because I thought very highly of Dr. Veca and her team. Like others said, the nurses were a little slow, but it was a holiday weekend and I assumed they were understaffed. I actually had a positive experience with the LCs. They went above and beyond to help to me out. Methodist recently became a part NY Presbyterian and I've heard there have been many positive changes. Someone who has delivered more recently may have more helpful feedback.
  • Thoughts on delivering at Methodist and any recs for OB affiliated with Methodist?

Dr. Josine Veca is also my OB, and my wife and I are very happy with her. She delivered our three kids. She is very attentive, professional as well as a fantastic surgeon (in case you will need a c-section like we did). We got a private room at Methodist, which really made all thee difference in the world.
  • Thoughts on delivering at Methodist and any recs for OB affiliated with Methodist?

I highly recommend my OBGYN there Dr Josine Veca and also Dr Mackavoy (spelling?!) whom I saw just once when my doctor had a family emergency- the wait for visits was only sometimes long, as with every practice, and if you get early appointments and come early they see you quickly usually.
  • Review submitted via the Park Slope Parents 2017 Birth Survey

5 Stars for quality if care. She was a life saver for my baby. Based on a 08/2017 birthing experience.
  • Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey

Dr. Veca was great. She is very attentive and takes her time to answer questions. She is also very lovely and you can tell she takes a genuine interest in her patients care. Also, she has a fabulous nurse, Julie, who I enjoyed getting to know throughout my pregnancy. The one downside to Dr. Veca is the LONG wait time. It was pretty normal to wait an hour or more to see her. I kept going to Veca because by the time I got pregnant we had a rapport and I wanted to stay with her, but the wait times did get cumbersome towards the end when you go more frequently. Having said this, I thought she provided great care and I felt great going into my delivery (even though she didn't deliver, which we discussed WAY in advance because she had vacation booked). Based on a August 2017 birthing experience.
  • Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey

I had a really positive experience with Dr Veca overall, and she was wonderfully reassuring and helpful during my actual labor. However, I'm not sure I'll go back to her for my next pregnancy, only because her office is so slow and has such a high number of patients. I didn't find her assistant or the office staff very helpful and I often waited for 90 minutes + for routine check-ups. Based on a August 2017 birthing experience
  • Recommendations Obgyn Methodist

We had a fantastic experience with Dr. Josine Veca at Methodist - I would highly recommend her!
  • OBGYN reco at Methodist?

Dr. Josine Veca - hands down. Amazing doctor and general human being!
  • Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey

Dr. Veca is the best. She is kind and supportive, but also no-nonsense. During my first pregnancy she helped us through a heart breaking situation. She kept a close eye on me during my second pregnancy and now we have a beautiful baby boy. I trust her completely and could not recommend her highly enough. Based on July 2016 birth experience
  • Review submitted via the 2016 Birth Survey

I saw Dr. Veca for pre-natal visits for the first half of my pregnancy. She was friendly, kind and reasonable. She made time for questions and had a pleasant manner. Getting appointments was never an issue and I liked that she was close by in Park Slope. No complaints. However, after doing some reading (by Ina May Gaskin), I decided I did not want to give birth in a hospital and switched my care to the Brooklyn Birthing Center at around 22 weeks. Dr. Veca was supportive of this decision and had only nice things to say about the birth center. Based on May 2016 birthing experience

REVIEW: I loved working with Dr. Veca - she is kind but matter-of-fact. She takes time to answer your questions without coddling or beating around the bush. However, the faculty practice is miserable and the wait times are absurd, so unfortunately I will probably choose a different doctor should we have another baby. INSURANCE The practice took my insurance (Empire BCBS) and filed on my behalf - no issues so far (including for additional sonograms). Based on a December 2015 birth

REVIEW: I had a friend who recommended me Dr veca. By this time I already had begun with park slope midwives. I changed to This Dr because as a foreigner I wanted to have my doctor present to the birth. I was pretty afraid of siffering and I insisted on having an epidural. Dr veca was great, she gave advices to start my labor before she took some days off because she knes I really wanted her to be next to me. Labor started as she was working at the hospital. I didnt have an epidural and things went fine. I didnt suffer, had a healthy baby and she was sweet with me. INSURANCE She takes oxford united healthcare. Based on a August 2015 birth

Member Review: Dr. Veca is smart, caring, and very straight forward. I remembered doing extensive research in searching for an a new doctor when we moved to Park Slope a few years ago. My previous doctor was at Lenox Hill, where I always planned on giving birth if I was to give birth. I liked Dr. Veca immediately the first time I visited despite the wait. When I was about 15 weeks, I visited the Park Slop midwives group as I was determined to have a natural birth and was afraid of the hospital doctors leaning towards induction as well as c-section. It was a torn decision but I had a very honest discussion with Dr. Veca afterwards. I ended up crying because I really liked her and she promised me that she will deliver for me. It seemed like a gaurantee and it was. She delivered my baby 1 day after she returned from vacation, and I was 38 weeks. Everything went smoothly and I had my baby without epidural!!!! Insurance details: My company switches insurance every year but luckily they were all accepted. Making apps over the phone is the toughest because the clinic gets quite packed. The appt girl was not easy at times, so I usually make my next appt after every visit. Review based on birth of 2014 baby
  • Re: Looking for a hopefully an above average OBGYN.

For OBGYN, Dr. Josine Veca and Dr. Joseph Paone, they both practice at Methodist and office is on 7th Ave between 5th and 6th Sts (between Barnes & Noble and RiteAid). Will likely be a wait as a new patient for Dr. Veca, not sure about Dr. Paone, but they are both wonderful. Dr. Veca has been my OBGYN for a number of years now, including through my pregnancy and she is lovely. In the end, Dr. Paone as her backup delivered my son, and was amazing.

Dr. Veca was also my OB and I LOVE her. Unfortunately she wasn't able to deliver my baby in February 2012, but I ended up loving the doctor who did. I had a great experience at Methodist and would do it again without a second thought. Plus, being so close to home was a huge bonus for me and my husband who had to make many trips.

I second that, Dr. Veca was amazing and we had a good experience delivering at Methodist.

she's terrific! and affiliated with Methodist.

I just became a patient of Dr. Josine Veca at New York Methodist Hospital, and I think she's excellent. Very easy to talk to, professional and thorough, gave me time to ask all the questions I wanted but still, I was in and out of there in an hour. I also thought the staff was great. I only had to wait 5 minutes past my appt time to be seen, the nurse was friendly, then I had an opportunity to run through my medical history with Dr. Veca in her office, then came the exam, and finally she gave me all the prescriptions and referrals I needed. Even after only one visit, I highly recommend her.

I went to Dr. Josine Veca using GHI. I didn't use her for my pregnancy (had a midwife), though just last week I saw someone posted on PSP about her and raved how great she was through their pregnancy and highly recommended her. I really, really liked Dr. Veca but I hated the office--it's a clinic and every time I waited for well over an hour to see her. Maybe it's run better now or hopefully pregnant women don't have to wait as long as those just getting their annual exam! It's been a few years since I've been there.
