  • Recommendation for an pediatric ophthalmologist and orthopedic

Not quite in Park Slope, but I've been taking my son to Dr James Deutsch, a pediatric ophthalmologist in Brooklyn Heights, for a couple of years now and have been happy with the progress he's made with his amblyopia.
  • Recs for pediatric ophthalmologist

I second the rec for Dr. Deutsch! He’s a lovely person and very knowledgeable and easy going. We go there even though he doesn’t take our eye care insurance. He’s great and patient with our son that is very shy and anxious at appointments. When we filled our prescription for new glasses in Park Slope, the Dr. said that he is very popular and many of his prescriptions come from him.

I highly recommend Dr. James Deutsch in Brooklyn Heights. http://www.drdeutschmd.com/ He was extremely knowledgable, patient and reassuring when we went through the process to get our daughters eyesight evaluated after her eyesight was flagged during her 24 month old year appointment. We were able to avoid eye surgery and she is now rocking her pink glasses with regular eye check ups.
  • ISO: Pediatric Ophthalmologist

We took our daughter to Dr. James Deutsch in Brooklyn Heights when she had a corneal abrasion as an infant. He sees both kids and adults. He was great. His number is (718) 855-8700.

Dr James Deutsch in Brooklyn Heights is good. He’s on Remsen Street and takes United.
  • Rave review for my eye doctor

Not a commercial post, just want to spread the good word. I started seeing Dr. James Deutsch in March, on the recommendation of another PSP member and on occasion of my starting to think my more local ophthalmologist was a bit of a quack. (Not naming names.) Dr. Deutsch's office is on Remsen St, close to the Borough Hall and Court Street subways. I was impressed with him at my initial exam, when he pointed something out about my eyes that prior ophthalmologists had not. However, I really felt he proved himself today when I came in for an emergency visit. I developed iritis yesterday as a side effect to medication, and he not only listened to my detailed explanation of the treatment I'm undergoing, he also took the time to call my other doctor's office, get more of an explanation, and to coordinate with them. I asked if he sees children, since my kids haven't yet been to the eye doctor, and he said that the majority of his work at SUNY Downstate is in pediatric ophthalmology. So I'll be bringing my kids to see him too.
  • ISO pediatric ophthalmologist

As an ophthalmologist's daughter and a parent, I DO NOT recommend James Deutsch for children. I highly second Mark Steele or Dr Lustig in the same practice. Only pediatrics, lovely with kids.
  • Re: Pediatric Opthamologist

My daughter has seen both of these opthamologists and they were both good. Though Chin-Chui is not exclusively a pediatric doc, she often treats children. I think it's harder to get an appointment with Deutch, who only sees children. (Reviewed January 2015)

We saw dr james Deutsch in Brooklyn heights. We really liked him and he was great with out 7 month old. We have twins and are bringing our other baby to him next week. He was highly recommended and I was not disappointed.

If you're willing to go to Cobble Hill/Brooklyn Heights, I'd definitely recommend Dr. James Deutsch. My son was born premature and we had to see an eye doc on very short notice to check for ROP. He squeezed us in and was really wonderful with our baby, who was only 5 1/2 pounds at the time. He spent a while with us and did a thorough and trauma-free exam! July 2012
