Dr. Moritz is funny, warm, and took all the time we needed to go over questions and concerns. He kept it light and kept us from freaking out along the way - granted I had an uncomplicated pregnancy. Can't speak to how/whether he adjusts his somewhat irreverent demeanor when serious issues arise. He did not attend the birth but we were prepared for that since as his on-call days are somewhat limited (and our baby was due at the height of summer vacation season.) Great bedside manner, very straightforward, big sense of humor. My pregnancy was normal so I didn't have any challenging issues for him, but he is considered really great for high risk pregnancies. Rather than give you advice/guidance, he waits for you to ask him questions - up to you whether that is your style. Occasionally very long wait times at the office, but otherwise, a wonderful experience. Very personable, funny, and tells it like it is! He also does an ultrasound at each appointment (up until the last month), and sometimes even the 3D ones, which is something that I learned many other providers don't offer. There were times when he was unavailable at the last minute and I saw the other doctors and midwives at his practice. I had positive experiences with Dr. Hanna and Dr. Lee - though their appointments were much more brief than Dr. Moritz's -, and a negative experience with Dr. Jew, whom I found to be very cold and with no bedside manner whatsoever. He may be a fine doctor, but his personality wasn't really one that made me feel comfortable. I also had an appointment with one midwife, Coralie Macqueen. Dr Moritz deserves all the awards he got! He made me feel secured and listened at all times. My baby was delivered in the best conditions and I have him to thank for. He is professional, reliable, very skilled and funny. And from what I understand, he is not pro C-section (unless needed of course), which is great in America. REVIEW: I had a positive experience with prenatal care with Dr. Moritz. I have no special health concerns and preferred a low-intervention approach, and that's what I got. In the end, his colleague in the practice, Dr. Lee, delivered my baby. I had never met Dr. Lee during my prenatal care, but I was very happy to have worked with him. He was a very calm, positive presence in the delivery room. He got along fantastically with my family and our doula. If I have another baby, I would definitely go back to this practice. Faculty Midwives @ Mount Sinai St Luke's in Practice w/Dr Jacques Mortiz Member Review: I saw the faculty midwives: Coralie, Rita, Melissa & Amanda during my prenatal appointments. Amanda ended up being the midwife on call when I delivered, and I couldn't be happier with how the birth turned out, despite it not going anything according to my "plan!" Amanda was brand new to the practice and I had not even met her as she joined in late Dec & I delivered early Jan. Despite this (and despite my anxiety about it!), she turned out to be the perfect person for me during my birth -- very calm, relaxed, more "doula-like" than even my doula, while still having all the medical expertise, etc. that comes with being a trained midwife. Overall it's a great practice, though the wait times are unbearable (like everywhere else). Only downside is that they work with Dr Mortiz, who is a nice guy and I think he's probably an exceptional OB, but if you have to see him during the course of your pregnancy for something non-critical that the midwives aren't allowed to do, be prepared for epic and infuriating wait times. Insurance details: Yes, they take insurance. The staff was very helpful when I was there, but Jessica (their main admin) has since left, so can't speak to it now. I had a c section first with twins and then a VBAC with my third kid, second pregnancy. I remember my OB Dr. Jacques Moritz from St Luke's Roosevelt telling me that with 1 or 2 c sections previously you still have same chance of success delivering vaginally. He also took friends of mine in their 8th month. I love him. He is my hero. Tells it like it is and not great if you are sensitive but he believes in the birthing process and won't interfere unless necessary. I pushed over 4 hours and he stuck with me. Pulled my guy out with his hands. P.s. You will wait one hour every appointment with Moritz so prepare for it and it won't bother you as much. He is worth the wait. Takes all the time with you that you need..Later in Life Pregnancy
When i went to Dr. Moritz I told him I really wanted to be with the midwives, which he was completely enthusiastic and supportive of and was going to help me switch over after we got some tests out of the way. It just happened that I got so comfortable with him and the situation that I never ended up switching.Later in Life Pregnancy
I too saw Dr. Moritz because I wanted to try for a VBAC, not because of my "advance maternal age." If you have the time for a long wait--he is worth it.Later in Life Pregnancy
I had my second, after waiting 5 plus years, at the age of 41. For the first I was with wonderful midwives and had a really great natural birth. The second time around, knowing that it could be more complicated,( though not necessarily so) I decided to go talked to a doctor with a lot of experience with older mothers and who was very pro-midwive, Dr. Jacques Moritz. You might like to just meet with him and discuss what your feeling (I did this before we even started trying). He very non alarmist and good at explaining what the statistics really mean. If you want to get an idea of what he's like, he's in the Business of Being Born movie and some clips on youtube.(no subject)
I would recommend Dr. Jacques Moritz as an OB. (http://www.nywomenshealth.com/md-jacques-moritz-st-lukes-roosevelt-hospital-new-york.htm) He was my OB for part of two pregnancies. He works with St.Lukes Roosevelt on the Upper West Side. He's very popular, so on the downside, office waits can be hours. I am now pregnant and actually with the midwife group in Moritz's office. St. Lukes has a natural birthing center (with great nurses, I hear), and I hope to give birth there in August. If you are open to working with midwives, I would recommend Sandy Woods and the other midwives at the practice - they're great! (may 2010)(no subject)
I've been through so many that I didn't like....I now see Dr. Jaques Mortitz at Roosevelt St. Lukes. He is an excellent doctor. He's head of OBGYN for the hospital and is top notch. (Recommended 11/09)
